Wed Aug 18 202101:29Elias Diaz Doubles And Triples On Tuesday
Colorado Rockies catcher Elias Diaz went 2-for-4 with a double, a triple, and two runs scored in a 7-3 win over the San Diego Padres on Tuesday. Diaz collected a pair of extra-base hits with his 10th double of the season and his first triple. No one was on base for his hits, but he scored a pair of runs for his efforts. The 30-year-old backstop is now slashing .229/.293/.442 with 13 home runs and 30 RBI across 240 at-bats this season. He's been useful as a streamer at times this season but he's not an every-game fantasy starter.

Sun Aug 15 202120:24Elias Diaz Drives In A Run On Sunday
Colorado Rockies catcher Elias Diaz went 1-for-2 with an RBI single in a 5-2 loss to the San Francisco Giants on Sunday. Dom Nunez started this game behind the plate but Diaz came in as a pinch-hitter to replace him midway through the contest. He put the Rockies on the board with an RBI single off Alex Wood in the seventh inning, which accounted for his only hit of the ball game. The 30-year-old backstop is now batting .223 with a .718 OPS, 13 home runs, and 30 RBI over 233 at-bats on the year. Neither he nor Dom Nunez have been consistent producers this season but Diaz has shown flashes of power at times.

Wed Aug 4 202101:13Elias Diaz Swats A Grand Slam On Tuesday
Colorado Rockies catcher Elias Diaz went 3-for-4 with a grand slam, a double, and three runs scored in a 13-6 win over the Cubs on Tuesday. Diaz staked the Rockies an early 4-1 lead with a grand slam off Zach Davies in the bottom of the second inning. He knocked a single and a double and scored two more times in the contest as well. The 30-year-old backstop has homered three times in the last seven games and is up to 12 bombs on the season. He's slashing .222/.290/.438 with 12 home runs, 27 RBI, and 29 runs scored over 203 at-bats. He's a better option for Colorado than Dom Nunez but he's just a two-catcher or deep NL-only player in fantasy.

Sat Jul 31 202102:55Joey Votto homers for 7th straight game, 1 shy of MLB record
NEW YORK (AP) — Joey Votto homered for the seventh straight game, one shy of a major league record, and the Cincinnati Reds beat the New York Mets 6-2 on Friday night. Jonathan India went deep twice for the Reds, including a leadoff shot that came on Carlos Carrasco’s first pitch with the Mets. Acquired from Cleveland in January, the veteran right-hander finally made his New York debut after recovering from a hamstring injury. It was an up-and-down day for the Mets, who made a big deal to get Javier Báez from the Chicago Cubs before baseball’s trade deadline — and then revealed injured ace Jacob deGrom will be shut down for two more weeks because of inflammation in his pitching elbow, making it unlikely he’ll rejoin the NL East leaders before September. Báez was acquired from the Cubs along with right-hander Trevor Williams for outfield prospect Pete Crow-Armstrong, the Mets’ first-round pick in the 2020 amateur draft. Báez is expected to join the Mets on Saturday and will play shortstop... [More]

Sun Feb 16 202018:29Jacob's Ladder; Stallings' persistence pays off for Pirates
BRADENTON, Fla. (AP) — The son's stay in town has outlasted the father's. The irony isn't lost on Jacob Stallings. It wasn't necessarily supposed to be this way. Stallings was still a catching prospect — and not necessarily a young one — in the Pirates' organization four years ago when his dad Kevin left a successful run as the men's basketball coach at Vanderbilt to take on the same job at the University of Pittsburgh. The marriage between the elder Stallings and the Panthers lasted all of two nightmarish seasons. By the spring of 2018, Pitt moved on. It seemed the younger Stallings might meet the same fate. Pittsburgh designated for him assignment several times as he pogoed between the minors and the majors after making his debut in 2016. The odds of him ever sticking in Pittsburgh seeming to grow more and more remote as his mid-20s turned into his late-20s.Yet rather than worry about it, Stallings buried himself in the game. When he spent the first half of 2019 as the third catcher while... [More]
