Wed Mar 23 202216:30Sandy Alcantara Throws Four Strong Innings On Wednesday
Miami Marlins starting pitcher Sandy Alcantara threw four good innings in Wednesday's Grapefruit League win over the Washington Nationals. He allowed a solo home run to Juan Soto in the first inning, and that was it. His final line was four innings pitched, allowing one run on one hit without issuing a walk and striking out four. Alcantara threw 57 pitches and looks ready for his Opening Day start. He'll be one of the better fantasy starters this season and should be one of the first 10 starting pitchers off the board in most leagues.

Fri Mar 18 202222:48Sandy Alcantara Throws Three Perfect Innings On Friday
Miami Marlins starting pitcher Sandy Alcantara tossed three perfect innings in his spring debut on Friday against the Washington Nationals. The Marlins ace got the start and struck out one without allowing any base runners. Alcantara is one of the better starting pitchers in baseball after taking a huge step forward in 2021. He should be a solid contributor in all pitching categories this year.

Sun Nov 28 202121:47Sandy Alcantara Agrees To Five-Year Contract Extension
Miami Marlins right-handed starter Sandy Alcantara agreed to a five-year, $56 million contract extension on Sunday, according to sources. In addition to Alcantara, the Marlins committed $109 million to the right-hander and free-agent outfielder Avisail Garcia on Sunday. Alcantara's deal includes a $21 million option for a sixth year, and he'll also receive a $1.5 million signing bonus. The option comes with a $2 million buyout. The 26-year-old is a rising star in the majors and is coming off a career year with career-highs in innings (205 2/3) and strikeouts (201). He had a 3.19 ERA in 33 starts and became the fifth pitcher in franchise history to go over 200 innings and 200 strikeouts in the same season. Alcantara, who was an All-Star in 2019, will continue to be the Marlins ace for years to come.

Mon Nov 22 202112:44Marlins Nearing Extension With Sandy Alcantara
The Miami Marlins are working on a contract extension for starting pitcher Sandy Alcantara and appear to be making progress. Craig Mish is reporting that a deal is getting closer and could be worth north of $55 million for five years. Alcantara is arbitration-eligible for the first time this offseason and can't become a free agent until after the 2024 season. The right-hander has a 3.48 ERA and 1.21 WHIP in 78 starts in parts of four seasons for the Fish, and he became the first Marlin to record 200 strikeouts and 200 innings in a season in 2021 since A.J. Burnett did it in 2002. If Miami locks down Alcantara, it would be the second extension they've completed this offseason after they signed shortstop Miguel Rojas to a deal that will keep him in town through the 2023 campaign.

Sat Oct 2 202102:29Sandy Alcantara Wraps Up His 2021 Season
Miami Marlins starting pitcher Sandy Alcantara made his last start of the season on Friday in a 5-0 loss to the Philadelphia Phillies. Alcantara tossed five innings, allowing four runs on five hits and a walk while striking out six. He took the loss, ending his season with a 9-15 record and a 3.19 ERA. Alcantara emerged as a true ace this season, and ended up with a solid ERA despite two starts in which he gave up eight and 10 runs without finishing the third inning. Take those starts out (which of course you can't do, but still...) and he has an ERA in the mid-twos. Alcantara should continue to improve next season and will allegedly have a better team around him.

Sun Sep 19 202120:57Sandy Alcantara Earns Another Quality Start On Sunday
Miami Marlins starting pitcher Sandy Alcantara pitched well again on Sunday, earning a quality start against the Pittsburgh Pirates. The Marlins ace pitched six innings, allowing two runs (one earned) on six hits and a walk while striking out four. It wasn't the huge-strikeout type of game that Alcantara has been having lately, but it was more than a good enough performance from the ace. The Marlins ended up winning in extra innings, but Alcantara had to settle for a no decision. He'll take a 3.05 ERA into his next start and would surely like to end the season under three.

Tue Sep 14 202111:17Sandy Alcantara Shines Again On Monday
Miami Marlins starting pitcher Sandy Alcantara was outstanding again on Monday in a 3-0 win against the Washington Nationals. The Marlins ace has been on an absolute tear lately, and that continued with a dominant eight inning performance on Monday. In those eight innings, Alcantara allowed just one hit and struck out seven without allowing a walk. The win moved his record to 9-13 and dropped his ERA to 3.10. He's developed into a true ace this season and should anchor the Marlins pitching staff next season as well.

Wed Sep 8 202123:25Sandy Alcantara Tosses A Gem On Wednesday
Miami Marlins starting pitcher Sandy Alcantara was outstanding in a start against the New York Mets on Wednesday. The Marlins ace pitched nine innings, allowing just one run (a solo homer) on four hits and a walk while striking out 14. The Marlins ultimately won the game in the 10th inning, but Alcantara had to settle for a tough no decision. He's not quite there yet, but Sandy is on his way to deGrom territory, where he almost always pitches well enough to win, but the offense runs dry whenever he's on the mound. He's still an excellent fantasy option in all formats.

Fri Sep 3 202101:12Sandy Alcantara Managed Out Of A Quality Start
Miami Marlins starting pitcher Sandy Alcantara suffered from poor managerial decisions from Don Mattingly once again in Thursday's start against the New York Mets. Alcantara had a quality start locked down, but was allowed to go back out for the seventh inning, facing the Mets order for a fourth time. Marlins manager Don Mattingly's utter lack of baseball knowledge has cost Alcantara plenty in the past, and this was just a minor example. In total, the Marlins ace went 6 1/3 innings, allowing four runs on eight hits without issuing a walk and striking out six. After his six strong innings to start the game, there was no reason to stretch him into the seventh. The Marlins have excellent young starting pitchers, and they deserve better than to be managed by Mattingly. Signed through next season, the Marlins starters, despite their talent, will always have their value limited by their manager.

Sun Aug 29 202103:28Sandy Alcantara Strikes Out A Dozen In Saturday's Win
Miami Marlins starting pitcher Sandy Alcantara dazzled in Saturday's 6-1 win over the Cincinnati Reds. The Marlins ace pitched seven innings, allowing one run on six hits and a walk while striking out 12. Alcantara has been missing a lot more bats lately, and has really bounced back well from his atrocious outing against the Rockies. On August 6, Alcantara gave up 10 runs in just 3 2/3 innings. Since then though, he's pitched 29 innings and struck out 37 batters. He's on an excellent hot streak and needs to be started in all formats every time he's on the mound.

Sun Aug 22 202118:05Sandy Alcantara Strikes Out 11 On Sunday
Miami Marlins starting pitcher Sandy Alcantara was outstanding in Sunday's start against the Cincinnati Reds. He pitched seven innings, allowing just two runs on four hits and two walks while striking out a career-high 11. Despite the excellent effort, the Marlins ace took his 12th loss, dropping to 7-12 on the season. He's rarely received run support from the Marlins offense, and he seemed somewhat frustrated about it in the press conference after the game. Alcantara will take a 3.35 ERA into his next start.

Tue Aug 17 202123:20Sandy Alcantara Allows One Run In A Loss
Miami Marlins starting pitcher Sandy Alcantara took a tough loss in Tuesday's game against the Atlanta Braves. Alcantara pitched eight innings, allowing just one run on five hits and a walk with seven strikeouts. He was cruising all day and was through seven scoreless innings before Marlins manager Don Mattingly made yet another mistake managing his pitching staff, allowing Alcantara to come out for a fourth time through the lineup while he was approaching 100 pitches. With the Marlins unable to score any runs, the team's ace took the loss, dropping his record to 7-11 but lowering his ERA to 3.39.

Tue Aug 17 202122:18Sandy Alcantara Impresses In Loss
Miami Marlins starting pitcher Sandy Alcantara was brilliant Tuesday night against the Atlanta Braves, going eight strong innings. He struck out seven, walked one, and allowed one run on just five hits. It wasn't enough to get the win, however, as the Marlins fell to the Braves 2-0. It was his second good start in a row after he let in no runs in seven innings against the San Diego Padres. Alcantara now has a 3.39 ERA, 135 strikeouts, 44 walks, and 15 HRs surrendered in 151.1 IP. He is a good fantasy option even given his low strikeout numbers, with him contributing in ERA and his ability to work deep into games.

Wed Aug 11 202121:48Sandy Alcantara Throws Seven Scoreless Innings
Miami Marlins starting pitcher Sandy Alcantara was excellent on Wednesday, throwing seven scoreless innings against the San Diego Padres. Alcantara bounced back from his previous start, where he struggled mightily and did not look like himself at all. On Wednesday though, Alcantara's seven shutout innings only included four hits and two walks with seven strikeouts. He finally got some run support, as the Marlins won 7-0, improving Alcantara's record to 7-10 and lowering his ERA to 3.52.

Fri Aug 6 202123:21Sandy Alcantara Gets Shelled On Friday
Miami Marlins starting pitcher Sandy Alcantara got shelled by the Colorado Rockies on Friday. He pitched 3 2/3 innings, allowing 10 runs on 10 hits with two walks and only one strikeout. He allowed three home runs in the worst outing of his career. It took Alcantara 75 pitches to get just 11 outs. It's never a great night when you allow almost as many runs as the number of outs you record. The outing shot Alcantara's ERA all the way up to 3.70. He's allowed 56 earned runs this season, but 18 have come in two starts (this one and one against the Dodgers.) Alcantara is an excellent pitcher who for some reason is always set for one or two starts like this one every season. Fantasy managers just need to take the ERA loss this week, but can have faith in Alcantara finishing the season off strong.

Wed Aug 4 202114:47Sandy Alcantara Looking To Shake Off July Struggles
Miami Marlins starting pitcher Sandy Alcantara had his worst month of the year so far in July. Over four starts, he posted a 4.26 ERA with a 1.89 K/BB ratio. However, he was dominant in his first start of August. Facing the New York Yankees this past Sunday, Alcantara pitched seven scoreless innings, allowing just two hits and a walk while matching a season-high with 10 strikeouts. Alcantara is 6-9 on the year with a 3.12 ERA and a 1.12 WHIP. He has allowed a barrel rate of just 4.5%, which ranks in the 89th percentile. Look for him to build off his strong start against the Yankees and return to his early season form. His next start will be on Friday against the Colorado Rockies at Coors Field.

Wed Jul 28 202100:36Sandy Alcantara Returns With A Quality Start
Miami Marlins starting pitcher Sandy Alcantara returned from the bereavement list with a win and a quality start. Pitching against the Baltimore Orioles, Alcantara lasted six innings, allowing three runs on six hits and a walk while striking out five. He gave up two home runs, but was able to limit damage, as both were solo home runs. The win improved Alcantara's record to 6-9 and moved his ERA to 3.29. He's one of the few Marlins who is expected to be untouchable at the trade deadline, and in fact recent rumors have said that he and the Marlins are discussing a contract extension.
