Tue Sep 28 202101:24German Marquez Surrenders Four Runs In Defeat
Colorado Rockies starting pitcher German Marquez took the loss on Monday as he allowed four runs on six hits with two walks and four strikeouts over five innings in a 5-4 loss to the Washington Nationals. Marquez was looking good through the first three innings before falling apart in the fourth. He served up three runs in that frame and Juan Soto followed that up with an RBI groundout in the fifth. The Rockies didn't provide enough run support--they didn't even score a run until after Marquez exited the game--and he was saddled with the loss. The 26-year-old really faded down the stretch, notching just one quality start over his last seven outings. He'll have one more shot to right the ship on Sunday against the Diamondbacks on the road. He'll carry a 4.40 ERA, 1.27 WHIP, and 176:64 K/BB ratio over 180 innings (32) starts into that one.

Thu Sep 23 202113:05German Marquez Coughs Up Five Runs On Wednesday
Colorado Rockies starting pitcher German Marquez took a no-decision on Wednesday when he allowed five runs on six hits with four walks and four strikeouts in a 10-5 win over the Dodgers. This wasn't a good start for Marquez, who lacked control and efficiency. He managed to make it through three-inning without allowing a run before running into trouble in the fourth. He surrendered three runs in the fourth inning and two in the fifth before getting yanked. Marquez has largely struggled since the All-Star break and has just two quality starts in his last eight. The 26-year-old owns a 4.32 ERA, 1.26 WHIP, and 172:62 K/BB ratio over 175 innings (31 starts). He'll take on the Nationals at home in his next start.

Colorado Rockies starting pitcher German Marquez took a no-decision on Friday when he surrendered six runs on eight hits with two walks and a strikeout over four innings in a 9-8 win over the Nationals. Marquez was hit all over the ballpark by the Nats in this one. He coughed up two runs in the first inning and another four in the fourth before exiting the game. After a stellar first half of the season, Marquez has been up and down following the All-Star break. Overall, he's got a 4.16 ERA, 1.23 WHIP, and 168:58 K/BB ratio over 171 innings (30 starts). It won't get any easier for him as he takes on the Dodgers in his next turn. He gets the Dodgers at home in his next turn.

Sat Sep 11 202109:40German Marquez Goes Six Scoreless, Wins 12th Game
Colorado Rockies starting pitcher German Marquez spun six scoreless innings during an 11-2 victory over the Philadelphia Phillies on Friday. The 26-year-old was brilliant, allowing six hits and one walk while striking out six during the quality start. The 2021 All-Star has put together a strong season, posting a 12-10 record with 3.93 ERA, 1.20 WHIP, and 167 K across 167 innings pitched. Curiously enough, the Rockies right-hander has been much better at Coors than on the road this season, with an 8-2 record and 3.16 ERA compared to 4-8 and a 4.93 ERA. Marquez is slated to take the ball next Thursday against the Braves on the road, making him a risky play.

Sun Sep 5 202100:54German Marquez Allows Two Runs In No-Decision
Colorado Rockies starting pitcher German Marquez took a no-decision on Saturday when he allowed four runs--two earned--on four hits with one walk and five strikeouts over five innings in a 7-6 win over the Atlanta Braves. Marquez didn't have his best game on Saturday but kept the Rockies in it as Ian Anderson struggled on the other side for the Braves. A fielding error in the first inning extended the inning and Braves were able to score two runs, which were unearned on Marquez's line. He did give up a few earned runs courtesy of Ozzie Albies and Jorge Soler. The 26-year-old hurler now owns a 4.08 ERA, 1.20 WHIP, and 161:55 K/BB ratio over 161 innings (28 starts). He'll get the Phillies on the road in his next turn.

Mon Aug 30 202123:08German Marquez Loses To The Rangers On Monday
Colorado Rockies starting pitcher German Marquez took the loss on Monday when he surrendered four runs on seven hits with two walks and two strikeouts across six innings in a 4-3 loss to the Texas Rangers. Marquez was victimized by the long ball on Sunday, giving up three of them, which accounted for all the runs against him. DJ Peters got him in the bottom of the fourth inning with a solo shot, Leody Taveras added his own in the fifth, and Nick Solak swatted a two-run bomb in the sixth inning. The Rockies were never able to retake the lead so he took his ninth loss of the season. The outing raised his ERA to 4.10 with a 1.21 WHIP, and a 156:54 K/BB ratio over 156 innings (27 starts). He's got a tough matchup in his next start when the Braves visit Coors Field this weekend.

Thu Aug 26 202100:08German Marquez Allows Five Runs In No-Decision
Colorado Rockies starting pitcher German Marquez took a no-decision on Wednesday when he allowed five runs on seven hits with three strikeouts over three innings in a 13-10 win over the Cubs in game two of a doubleheader. Marquez suffered the same fate as Austin Gomber, who pitched in game one, as he also allowed five earned runs. He coughed up all five in the second inning as the Cubs hit single after single. It just wasn't Marquez's day but the Rockies ended up tying and eventually winning the game, which spared the 26-year-old from taking the loss. He now owns an 11-9 record, 4.02 ERA, 1.19 WHIP, and 154:52 K/BB ratio over 150 innings (26 starts). He'll face the Rangers on the road in his next turn, which should be a much easier start.

He was still able to earn the win and now owns a solid 3.80 ERA, 1.17 WHIP, and 151:52 K/BB ratio over 147 innings (25 starts). He's got an easy matchup against the Cubs on the road in his next turn.

The 26-year-old, impressively, spun a quality start allowing three earned runs, five hits, one walk, and three homers while striking out four. The 2021 All-Star is now 11-9 with a 3.80 ERA, 1.17 WHIP, and 151 K across 147 innings. Marquez will look to continue his impressive campaign at Coors against the Arizona Diamondback on Sunday.

Fri Aug 13 202101:15German Marquez Rocked By The Giants
Colorado Rockies starting pitcher German Marquez took the loss on Thursday when he allowed seven runs on seven hits with two walks and six strikeouts over four innings in a 7-0 loss to the Giants. Marquez really had just one bad inning on Thursday. He allowed a single run in the second before completely melting down in the fourth. He coughed up an RBI double to Curt Casali, a two-run single to Logan Webb, and a three-run homer to LaMonte Wade Jr. all in the same inning. The Rockies were shut out so the seven earned runs were more than enough to give Marquez the loss. He now owns a 3.77 ERA, 1.18 WHIP, and 147:51 K/BB ratio over 140 2/3 innings (24 starts). He had recorded two straight quality starts prior to Thursday so he'll look to bounce back in his next turn against the Padres at home.

Sun Jul 11 202121:29Altuve's 3-run homer in 9th caps Astros' rally past Yankees
HOUSTON (AP) — Jose Altuve hit a three-run homer to cap a startling six-run rally in the bottom of the ninth inning, getting his jersey yanked off in a frenzied celebration and lifting the Houston Astros over the New York Yankees 8-7 on Sunday. The Astros had been shut out by the Yankees the previous two games, highlighted by ace Gerrit Cole’s three-hitter in a 4-0 win on Saturday night. The win came on Altuve replica jersey giveaway at Minute Maid Park — Houston fans left with a No. 27 shirt, while the All-Star second baseman exited without his. New York led 7-2 after a three-run homer by Gary Sanchez in the eighth inning. After the first two Astros reached base against Domingo Germán in the ninth, Chas McCormick hit a two-run double off Chad Green (3-5). Abraham Toro followed with an RBI double to make it 7-5, still with no outs. Pinch-hitter Jason Castro singled and one out later, Altuve launched his soaring shot to left field. Ralph Garza Jr. (1-2) pitched 1 2/3 scoreless innings for... [More]
Sun Jul 11 202102:09Acuña needs season-ending surgery; Braves beat Marlins 5-4
MIAMI (AP) — Braves star Ronald Acuña Jr. will have season-ending surgery to repair a completely torn ACL in his right knee after he was injured during Atlanta’s 5-4 win over the Miami Marlins on Saturday. An MRI showed the severity of the injury and the Braves made the announcement shortly before midnight that their three-time All-Star will be out until at least next year. Acuña landed awkwardly on his right leg after jumping on the warning track in right field to try to catch a drive from Jazz Chisholm Jr. in the fifth inning. The 23-year-old slammed into the outfield wall and crumbled on the warning track, immediately grabbing his right knee while Chisholm sprinted out an inside-the-park homer. The 23-year-old Acuña did not put any weight on his right leg and had to be helped to a cart before being taken from the field. Freddie Freeman had a two-run homer and an RBI single, while Dansby Swanson and Austin Riley ripped doubles as the first three Braves reached base off All-Star pitcher... [More]
