Fri Jan 27 202318:53Reds Planning On Full Season For Tyler Stephenson
Cincinnati Reds manager David Bell said that the team is planning for catcher Tyler Stephenson (collarbone) to be in the lineup for 140-150 games in 2023 if he can remain healthy. They will be able to achieve that by using Stephenson as the designated hitter to give him days off behind the plate. The 26-year-old is one of the best hitting catchers in baseball, but he played in only 50 games in his third major-league season last year due to a broken collarbone. He managed to hit .319 with six homers and 35 RBI before his injury, and RotoBaller has him ranked as the No. 10 fantasy backstop at a thin position. In 132 games in 2021, Stephenson slashed .286/.366/.431 with a .797 OPS, 10 home runs, 45 RBI and 56 runs scored. When he's serving as the DH, the Reds will have options at catcher with Curt Casali, Luke Maile and Austin Romine.

Sat Jul 23 202211:52Tyler Stephenson Officially Placed On Injured List
The Cincinnati Reds officially placed catcher Tyler Stephenson (shoulder) on the 10-day injured list on Saturday and recalled catcher Mark Kolozsvary from Triple-A Louisville. Stephenson doesn't have a timetable for a return, but he will be out well beyond the 10 days after breaking his right clavicle on Friday when he was hit in the shoulder by a foul tip. Aramis Garcia (elbow, illness) is also injured so Michael Papiersky and Kolozsvary will split time behind the dish in Cincinnati for now. Stephenson is one of the best hitting catchers in baseball, but he just hasn't been able to stay healthy in 2022. In 166 at-bats, he's hitting .319/.372/.482 with an .854 OPS, six home runs, 35 RBI, 24 runs scored and a stolen base. If you have the room on your roster, keep him stashed.

Cincinnati Reds catcher Tyler Stephenson (thumb) has been activated from the 10-day injured list. The 25-year-old, who missed a month of action with a fractured right thumb, is back in the Reds' lineup on Saturday against the Tampa Bay Rays. Stephenson was slashing a rock-solid .305/.361/.468 with five home runs and 31 RBI across 141 at-bats prior to his injury so this is welcome news for his fantasy managers. Thu Jul 7 202214:13Tyler Stephenson, Alexis Diaz Could Return This Weekend
Cincinnati Reds catcher Tyler Stephenson (thumb) could return from the injured list on Saturday or Sunday, while rookie relief pitcher Alexis Diaz (biceps) is on track to return on Friday, according to skipper David Bell. Stephenson will play in two more minor league rehab games for Triple-A Louisville before returning as the team's starting catcher. The 25-year-old is one of the best hitting catchers in baseball and needs to be rostered in all fantasy leagues. Diaz has been sidelined since June 19, but he could work himself back into a high-leverage bullpen role after posting a solid 2.40 ERA with two saves and 36 strikeouts in 30 relief innings for Cincy before his injury.

Thu Jun 30 202218:17Tyler Stephenson Could Return In 7-10 Days
Cincinnati Reds skipper David Bell said that catcher Tyler Stephenson (thumb) could be back from the injured list within seven to 10 days. He will hit live batting practice on Friday, and the next step after that will be a minor league rehab assignment with Triple-A Louisville. The 25-year-old backstop needs to be stashed in all fantasy formats, as he was hitting a strong .305/.361/.468 with an .829 OPS, five home runs, 31 RBI, 21 runs scored and a stolen base in 141 at-bats before his injury. He's been on the shelf since June 9 due to a fractured right thumb, so hopefully he can pick up where he left off offensively for his fantasy managers. Aramis Garcia has done most of the catching for the Reds with Stephenson out of action.

Sat Jun 25 202218:50Tyler Stephenson Could Begin Rehab Assignment Soon
Cincinnati Reds catcher Tyler Stephenson (hand) could begin a rehab assignment in 7-10 days, according to manager David Bell. Stephenson has been out for two weeks with a fractured hand, and the initial timeline for his return was set at 4-6 weeks. If he does start his rehab in a week, he would be on track to return on the early side of that timeline. Stephenson has been one of the best catchers both in real life and in fantasy this year, with a .305/.361/.468 slash line to go along with five HR and 31 RBI over 141 AB. Stephenson's return cannot come quickly enough for fantasy managers, who has been one of the only reliable catchers this season.

Thu Jun 9 202216:32Tyler Stephenson To Miss 4-6 Weeks With Fractured Thumb
Cincinnati Reds catcher Tyler Stephenson (hand) fractured his thumb during Thursday's game against the Arizona Diamondbacks. He is expected to be sidelined for between four and six weeks. This is a tough break for both the Reds and fantasy owners alike as Stephenson has been one of the most productive catchers in all of fantasy this year. Over 42 games, Stephenson has slashed .305/.361/.468 with five home runs, 31 RBI and 21 runs. Aramis Garcia will serve as the team's primary catcher while Stephenson is out.

Thu Jun 9 202214:22Tyler Stephenson Injures Hand Thursday
Cincinnati Reds catcher Tyler Stephenson (hand) left the game early on Thursday against the Arizona Diamondbacks with what appeared to be a hand injury after a foul tip went off his right hand. Stephenson went 0-for-2 with two strikeouts in the contest before leaving. We'll have more information on the severity of his injury when it becomes available, but fantasy managers should at least expect Stephenson to be out of action on Friday. The 25-year-old has been one of the best hitting catchers in baseball this year, batting .309 with five home runs and 31 RBI, so losing him for any stretch of time will hurt. Aramis Ramirez replaced Stephenson behind the plate on Thursday and will see more playing time if Stephenson requires a lengthy absence.

Wed Jun 8 202214:04Tyler Stephenson Takes A Seat Wednesday
Cincinnati Reds catcher Tyler Stephenson is not in the starting lineup on Wednesday against the Arizona Diamondbacks. Stephenson is getting a normal day of rest in the midst of a hot streak, as he's 9-for-24 with a home run and seven RBI in six games over the last week of action. He's been one of the most valuable catchers in fantasy this year with a .309/.366/.475 slash line, an .841 OPS, five home runs, 31 RBI, 21 runs scored and one stolen base in 153 plate appearances over 41 games. Aramis Garcia is doing the catching on Wednesday and will hit ninth against Diamondbacks right-hander Merrill Kelly. Garcia is hitting .167 and has just one home run in 60 at-bats this year, so DFS gamers should be able to find more appealing options at the position.

Tue Jun 7 202200:20Tyler Stephenson Plates Two Monday, Stays Hot
Cincinnati Reds catcher Tyler Stephenson continued to produce at the plate in Monday's 7-0 win over the Diamondbacks. The 25-year-old backstop went 2-for-3 with a single, a double, two RBI, and a walk. Stephenson has hit well this season, slashing .306/.365/.455 with four home runs and 28 RBI. His numbers may not be the flashiest, but Stephenson has provided consistency at a very shallow position. He is worth starting at catcher for fantasy managers at all times unless he starts to severely slump.

Wed May 25 202215:15Tyler Stephenson Taking The Day Off
Cincinnati Reds catcher Tyler Stephenson is not in the starting lineup on Wednesday against the Chicago Cubs. Stephenson will get a breather after starting in each of the team's last seven games. The 25-year-old has been a must-start at the weakest position in fantasy on a bad Reds team, as he's slashing a healthy .295/.358/.484 with an .843 OPS, four home runs, 21 RBI, 13 runs scored and one stolen base in 95 at-bats. Aramis Garcia will do the catching on Wednesday and is hitting eighth against Cubs right-hander Kyle Hendricks. Garcia is 9-for-50 (.180) with a solo home run in 20 games played for the Reds this year. He's a low-upside DFS backstop that should be avoided.

Cincinnati Reds catcher Tyler Stephenson (head) is back in the starting lineup on Tuesday and is hitting fifth against Cleveland Guardians right-hander Zach Plesac. Stephenson left the game early last Saturday after taking a foul tip off his mask behind the plate, but he was cleared from the league's concussion protocols. The 25-year-old backstop needs to be put back into all starting fantasy lineups in redraft leagues, as he's hitting a strong .324/.390/.574 with a .963 OPS, four home runs, 19 RBI, 13 runs scored and one stolen base in his first 23 games of the season. In the month of May, Stephenson has gone 14-for-38 with two homers, five doubles, 13 RBI and nine runs scored in 12 games.

He did not suffer a concussion and prior to Sunday's game, he received medical clearance to play. While he is not in the starting lineup for Sunday's game, he will be available off the bench. Michael Perez will be getting the start behind the plate on Sunday. Stephenson has been swinging a hot bat so far this year. Over 23 games, he's slashing .324/.390/.574 with four home runs, 19 RBI and 13 runs. The Reds are off on Monday, but we expect to see him back in the starting lineup for Tuesday's game against the Cleveland Guardians.

Sat May 14 202221:31Tyler Stephenson Exits Saturday's Game Early
Cincinnati Reds catcher Tyler Stephenson (head) exited Saturday's game against the Pittsburgh Pirates early after getting struck in the face mask by a foul tip. He went 0-for-1 with a strikeout before leaving and was replaced by Aramis Garcia. Stephenson spent time on the concussion list earlier in the season. The 25-year-old is considered day-to-day, and the team should provide an update after the game. Garcia would see an uptick in at-bats while Stephenson is sidelined. He isn't on the fantasy radar after slashing .179/.220/.282 over 41 plate appearances in 2022.

Fri May 13 202200:45Tyler Stephenson Logs Three Hits In Win
Cincinnati Reds catcher Tyler Stephenson had a terrific day at the plate on Thursday, going 3-for-4 as his club shut out the Pirates 4-0. The 25-year-old scored a pair and drove in a pair on two singles while also launching a solo home run off JT Brubaker to give him four long balls on the year. The multi-hit game was his third in as many games, and he's now hitting a sharp .349 with 13 runs and 19 RBI through 21 games this season. Despite a lackluster supporting cast, Stephenson should continue to post commendable numbers as a top-10 catcher the rest of the way.

Sun Apr 24 202212:30Tyler Stephenson May Not Travel With Team
Cincinnati Reds manager David Bell said that catcher Tyler Stephenson (concussion) may not travel with the team on their upcoming road trip to the Colorado Rockies as he remains in the league's concussion protocol. Stephenson was placed on the seven-day concussion injured list on Wednesday after suffering a concussion on a collision at home plate with Padres first baseman Luke Voit on Tuesday. It looks like Stephenson will be out for more than a week if he doesn't travel with the team to Colorado. Mark Kolozsvary is doing the catching on Sunday against St. Louis Cardinals right-hander Adam Wainwright, but Aramis Garcia started the previous four games behind the dish for the Reds.

Tue Apr 19 202222:23Tyler Stephenson Leaves Game After Home-Plate Collision
Cincinnati Reds catcher Tyler Stephenson (head, neck) left the game early on Tuesday night against the San Diego Padres when he was involved in a collision with first baseman Luke Voit at home plate in the first inning. Stephenson laid on the ground for around 30 seconds and returned to the dugout after slowly moving his neck and being checked for a concussion. The Reds lead the majors with 12 players on the injured list, and they put both infielders Jonathan India and Mike Moustakas on the IL before Tuesday's game. There's a chance Stephenson could be the latest Reds player to hit the IL, but at the very least, he's unlikely to be in Wednesday's lineup. Aramis Garcia is the only other catcher on the Reds active big-league roster.
