Despite being out of options, Moore could be a bit behind Mike Carp in the spring battle for a bench spot given the Nationals' need for left-handed hitters, the Washington Post reports.

If Moore doesn't make the 25-man roster, he's unlikely to clear waivers, complicating the roster decisions for the Nats. Given the injury history of first baseman Ryan Zimmerman, whoever wins the job backing him up could have more fantasy value than expected in deeper NL-only leagues.

Given the relative health of the Nats' outfield options as well as Adam LaRoche, Moore figures to be deployed primarily off the bench in September, though he could steal occasional starts at first base against left-handed pitching. Moore hit .278/.391/.514 with four homers in 72 at-bats against lefties at Syracuse this season.
