Tue Apr 19 202218:00Jon Gray Activated From Injured List Ahead Of Tuesday's Start
The Texas Rangers have activated starting pitcher Jon Gray (finger) from the 10-day injured list. He will make his second start of the year on Tuesday against the Seattle Mariners. To clear up a roster spot, the Rangers designated relief pitcher Greg Holland for assignment. Gray had a blister on the middle finger of his right hand, his throwing hand. The blister and the ensuing trip to the injured list only wound up costing him one start. He struggled in his Rangers debut on Opening Day, allowing three earned runs over four innings. We'll see if he can bounce back in his second outing on Tuesday.

Sat Apr 9 202212:36Jon Gray Placed On The 10-Day Injured List
The Texas Rangers placed pitcher Jon Gray (blister) on the 10-day injured list Saturday with a blister. Spencer Patton was recalled from the minors in a corresponding move. The 30-year-old will miss at least the next 10 days, and Texas will use a four-man rotation due to a pair of upcoming days off. Gray allowed three runs on three hits and two walks while striking out four over four innings in Friday's 10-8 loss to the Toronto Blue Jays. He did not factor into the decision. His injury isn't severe, and fantasy managers can expect Gray to return for the Seattle-Oakland trip starting April 19th.

Tue Mar 29 202213:58Rangers Announce Jon Gray As Opening Day Starter
Texas Rangers manager Chris Woodward announced on Tuesday that starting pitcher Jon Gray will be the team's Opening Day starter on April 8 at the Toronto Blue Jays. Gray gets a tough first assignment with the Rangers after signing a four-year, $56 million deal this offseason. The 30-year-old right-hander has always had fantasy upside given his strikeout ability, but calling Coors Field home for the first seven years of his career has kept him from reaching his true potential. Texas isn't the best environment for pitchers either, but it's certainly an upgrade. In his career, Gray has a 4.59 ERA, 1.34 WHIP and an 849 to 280 strikeout-to-walk ratio in 829 1/3 innings. He should be a solid source of innings, wins and strikeouts as RotoBaller's No. 41-ranked fantasy starter.

Sun Nov 28 202122:08Jon Gray Lands In Texas On Four-Year Deal
The Texas Rangers agreed to a four-year, $56 million deal with free-agent right-hander Jon Gray on Sunday night, pending a physical, according to a source. In addition to inking Gray on Sunday, the Rangers also added middle infielder Marcus Semien to a big seven-year, $175 million deal and added outfielder Kole Calhoun. With no qualifying offer attached to him, the Rangers won't have to give up a draft pick to sign Gray. The 30-year-old right-hander had a 4.59 ERA and 1.33 WHIP in 149 innings over 29 starts for the Colorado Rockies in 2021. Although Gray was actually better in his seven seasons at hitter-friendly Coors Field than on the road, the move out of Coors should make him more attractive in fantasy in a prominent role in Texas' rotation.

Thu Nov 25 202120:12Jon Gray Drawing Interest From Rangers
The Texas Rangers are rumored to have interest in free agent starting pitcher Jon Gray, according to Mark Feinsand of MLB.com. Gray, 30, spent his entire seven-year career with the Colorado Rockies before hitting the open market this offseason. The Rockies didn't give him a qualifying offer, and so isn't tied to draft pick compensation. He managed a 4.59 ERA and 4.22 FIP with 157 strikeouts over 29 starts and 149 innings in 2021. This production is a bit worse than his career ERA and FIP of 4.13 and 4.08, respectively. Gray doesn't stick out in any category but could be a good sleeper if he can drop his ERA while pitching out of Coors Field.

Fri Nov 12 202121:14Tigers Reportedly Interested In Jon Gray
The Detroit Tigers are reportedly interested in free-agent right-hander Jon Gray, according to MLB Network's Jon Morosi. Gray enjoyed a quality season in 2021 with the Colorado Rockies, pitching to a 4.59 ERA, a 3.95 FIP, 157 strikeouts and 58 walks in 149 innings pitched. A move to Detroit by Gray certainly wouldn't hurt from a fantasy standpoint, as he could be in line for more wins on a Tigers team that could be competitive next season.

Sun Nov 7 202119:24Jon Gray Doesn't Receive A Qualifying Offer
Colorado Rockies starting pitcher Jon Gray did not receive a one-year, $18.4 million qualifying offer from the team on Sunday. Gray, 30, could still re-sign with the Rockies and has expressed a desire to stay in Colorado. The Rockies offered Gray what was thought to be a three- or four-year deal in the range of $35-40 million during the final week of the season, but he turned it down. Gray is interested in returning to the team, but he will explore his options on the open market. The right-hander has inexplicably been really good at hitter-friendly Coors Field, so it makes sense for him to have interest in sticking around, but he went just 8-12 with a 4.59 ERA and 1.33 WHIP while striking out 157 and walking 58 in 149 innings over his 29 starts this year. He was even worse in 2020 with a 6.69 ERA in just eight starts.

Sat Oct 2 202101:39Jon Gray Demolished In No-Decision
Colorado Rockies starting pitcher Jon Gray took a no-decision on Friday when he allowed seven runs on seven hits with seven strikeouts over four innings in a 9-7 win over the D-Backs. What an odd outing for Gray, who shut out the Diamondbacks over his first two innings before completely imploding in the third. He surrendered all seven of his runs in the frame, which included a three-run homer to his Arizona counterpart, Humberto Castellanos, a solo shot to Ketel Marte, and a two-run bomb to Christian Walker. He did manage to punch out seven but this is not how the hard-throwing right-hander wanted to end his season. The 29-year-old got off to a solid start this season but then faded--mostly due to injury--down the stretch. He finishes with a 4.59 ERA, 1.33 WHIP, and 157:58 K/BB ratio over 149 innings (29 starts).

Tue Sep 28 202119:40Jon Gray Starting On Friday
Colorado Rockies starter Jon Gray will take the mound for a matchup with the Arizona Diamondbacks on Friday. Gray has pitched to a 4.28 ERA and a 4.07 FIP in 145 innings this season. He's also struck out 150 batters while giving up 58 walks. The veteran should be a quality streaming option for Friday's start against an Arizona lineup that has struggled to score runs at times. Only four teams have scored fewer runs than the Diamondbacks this season.

Sun Sep 26 202112:57Jon Gray Coughs Up Four Runs In Loss
Colorado Rockies starting pitcher Jon Gray took the loss on Saturday when he allowed four runs on five hits with five strikeouts over 4 2/3 innings in a 7-2 loss to the San Francisco Giants. Brandon Belt was the bane of Gray's existence on Saturday as the veteran first baseman swatted two home runs off him. The first one was a solo shot in the first inning but the second blast was a three-run tater to put San Francisco up 4-2 in the fifth inning. The Giants would add to that margin and saddle Gray with his 12th loss of the season. The hard-throwing right-hander has now gone eight straight games without notching a quality start, which is a troubling trend. He'll carry a 4.28 ERA, 1.32 WHIP, and 150:58 K/BB ratio over 145 innings (28 starts) into his final start of the season against Arizona on the road.

Mon Sep 20 202112:24Jon Gray Takes Another Loss On Sunday
Colorado Rockies starting pitcher Jon Gray took the loss on Sunday when he allowed two runs on three hits with two walks and five strikeouts over four innings in a 3-0 loss to the Nationals. Gray wasn't very efficient in this one, needing 70 pitches just to get through his four innings. He coughed up an RBI single to Yadiel Hernandez in the first inning and allowed a solo home run to Juan Soto in the third. The Rockies were blanked on offense so that was enough to give him the loss. The big right-hander now owns an 8-11 record, 4.17 ERA, 1.33 WHIP, and 145:58 K/BB ratio over 140 1/3 innings (27 starts). He'll take on the Giants at home in his next turn.

Wed Sep 15 202100:21Jon Gray Whiffs Seven In Victory Over Atlanta
Colorado Rockies starting pitcher Jon Gray earned the win on Tuesday when he allowed two runs on five hits with two walks and seven strikeouts over five innings in a 5-4 win over the Atlanta Braves. Gray was in control for the most part in this one, allowing just a Freddie Freeman RBI single in the first and a Dansby Swanson RBI double in the fourth inning. He also managed to punch out seven batters but this was just his first win since July 30. He also hasn't recorded a quality start in six straight turns. Gray now owns an 8.10 record, 4.16 ERA, 1.33 WHIP, and 140:56 K/BB ratio over 136 1/3 innings (26 starts). He'll look to pick up another win in his next start against the Nationals on the road.

Wed Sep 8 202122:40Jon Gray Whiffs Eight In No-Decision
Colorado Rockies starting pitcher Jon Gray took a no-decision on Wednesday when he allowed three runs on six hits with one walk and eight strikeouts over five innings in a 7-4 loss to the San Francisco Giants. Facing the Giants is no easy task these days but Gray was throwing a shutout through the first five innings on Wednesday. The Rockies held a 3-0 lead heading into the sixth frame before he started to fall apart. He surrendered back-to-back singles before Brandon Crawford took him deep for a game-tying, three-run homer. He exited after that and was handed a no-decision for his efforts. Gray has battled injuries over the last month and has only made six starts since August 4. He's only notched one quality start over that span as well but Wednesday was a step in the right direction. He now owns a 4.18 ERA, 1.32 WHIP, and 133:54 K/BB ratio over 131 1/3 innings (25 starts). He'll face the Braves on the road in his next turn.

Wed Sep 8 202113:16Jon Gray Activated Wednesday
Colorado Rockies starting pitcher Jon Gray has been activated from the injured list on Wednesday, according to the team. He was placed on the IL on September 1 with right forearm tightness and missed just one start. Gray's having a bit of a bounceback season on the mound, pitching to a 4.13 ERA with a 23.1 K% and 1.32 WHIP. Playing for a poor Rockies team doesn't help him, though, with his record sitting at 7-10. Gray is more of a deep league option at this point, with average numbers across the board and not enough wins to make up for it.

Thu Sep 2 202119:41Jon Gray To Throw Simulated Game On Saturday
Colorado Rockies starting pitcher Jon Gray (forearm) will take the mound and throw a simulated game on Saturday. He was placed on the injured list on Wednesday due to right forearm tightness. The hope is that Gray will be able to get back into the rotation after this simulated game. However, the team is going to wait and see how Gray feels following the outing. Fantasy managers should continue to hold Gray in the hope that he is going to return soon.

Wed Sep 1 202112:58Rockies Place Jon Gray On The Injured List Wednesday
The Colorado Rockies placed starting pitcher Jon Gray (forearm) on the 10-day injured list on Wednesday. He is dealing with right forearm tightness. The injury forced him to leave his most recent start on Saturday after just two innings. He had been testing out his arm this week and there was some optimism that he wouldn't miss his next start. Unfortunately, that won't be the case. He'll be out at least 10 days with a chance to return during the team's home series against the San Francisco Giants next week. Over 24 starts on the year, Gray has gone 7-10 with a 4.13 ERA and a 1.32 WHIP.

Sun Aug 29 202121:19Jon Gray To Play Catch Monday
Colorado Rockies starting pitcher Jon Gray (forearm) will play catch and have his right forearm tested on Monday, according to Rockies manager Bud Black. Gray was forced out of Saturday's game after just two innings due to right forearm tightness. For now, he is day-to-day, and there will be more information once the tests come back. Gray's having a resurgent campaign after a hideous 2020, pitching to a 4.13 ERA, 23.1 K%, 9.8 BB%, and a 1.32 WHIP over 24 starts. He isn't a great fantasy pitcher, but in deeper leagues, he can still provide a decent ERA, despite hurting the strikeout numbers.

Sun Aug 29 202108:05Jon Gray Dealing With Forearm Tightness
Colorado Rockies starting pitcher Jon Gray (forearm) was forced to exit Saturday's start against the Los Angeles Dodgers due to right forearm tightness. Rockies manager Bud Black told the press that the injury was near Gray's elbow, but that it was located on the lateral side of his arm, away from the UCL. This could be good news for Gray, suggesting he may have avoided something severe. However, he will undergo further tests on Sunday and in the coming days. Gray only lasted two innings on Saturday before exiting. He allowed two hits, three walks and one earned run while striking out two. As of now, his next start is scheduled for Thursday against the Atlanta Braves.

Mon Aug 23 202113:33Jon Gray Rocked On Sunday
Colorado Rockies starting pitcher Jon Gray took the loss on Sunday when he allowed five runs on six hits with three walks and eight strikeouts over 5 1/3 innings. Gray had just two bad innings but it was enough to allow five earned runs and saddle him with the loss. Daulton Varsho smacked a three-run homer off him in the second inning and Josh Rojas and Ketel Marte both drew bases-loaded walks in the sixth inning to score Gray's inherited runners. He did manage to punch out eight but it wasn't a great outing from the veteran hurler. He'll carry his 4.13 ERA, 1.30 WHIP, and 123:50 K/BB ratio over 124 1/3 innings into his next start against the Dodgers on the road.

Sun Aug 15 202120:19Jon Gray Takes A Loss On Sunday In San Francisco
Colorado Rockies starting pitcher Jon Gray took the loss on Sunday when he allowed three runs on seven hits with one walk and five strikeouts across 4 1/3 innings in a 5-2 loss to the Giants. Gray avoided trouble through the first four innings of Sunday's series finale but then fell apart in the fifth frame. Curt Casali led things off with an RBI single before Tommy La Stella swatted a two-run double. He was then lifted and replaced by Tyler Kinley, who secured the final two outs of the inning to prevent further damage. The three earned runs were enough to saddle Gray with the loss so his record dropped to 7-9 for the season. He'll carry a 3.93 ERA, 1.29 WHIP, and 115:47 K/BB ratio over 119 innings into this next turn against the D-Backs at home.
