Tue Sep 28 202119:22Albert Pujols Sent To Injured List Due To Vaccine Side Effects
The Los Angeles Dodgers placed first baseman Albert Pujols on the injured list on Tuesday. The veteran slugger wasn't feeling well after receiving his second COVID-19 vaccine, according to Dodgers manager Dave Roberts. The team activated outfielder Cody Bellinger (ribs) in a corresponding move. Due to the COVID-19 designation, Pujols still has a chance to return before the end of the regular season. Over 82 games in Dodger blue, Pujols has slashed .255/.302/.467 with 12 home runs, 38 RBI and 19 runs.

Sat Aug 21 202119:51Albert Pujols Hits 15th Home Run In Victory
Los Angeles Dodgers first baseman Albert Pujols went 1-for-2 with a solo home run in Saturday's victory versus the New York Mets. The veteran drew a rare start, but came through with his 10th home run as a Dodger in the process. Pujols has occasionally gotten starts for the Dodgers, but he has mainly worked as a bench player. For the season, Pujols is now hitting .243 with 15 home runs and 45 RBI. With his lack of playing time, Pujols can safely be left on the waiver wire.

Los Angeles Dodgers first baseman Albert Pujols went 1-for-3 with a walk and two-run home run in Sunday's victory versus the Los Angeles Angels. Pujols entered the game when third baseman Justin Turner (groin) exited the game after the first inning with a groin injury. Pujols then would crush a two-run blast off of rookie Reid Detmers in the bottom of the second inning. Pujols doesn't draw many starts, but is hitting .240 with 14 home runs and 44 RBI. With limited starts, Pujols can be avoided in all formats.

Los Angeles Dodgers first baseman Albert Pujols went 1-for-3 with a run scored and three RBI in Sunday's blowout victory versus the Arizona Diamondbacks. Pujols got the start with infielder Max Muncy getting the afternoon off. Sat Jul 31 202102:55Joey Votto homers for 7th straight game, 1 shy of MLB record
NEW YORK (AP) — Joey Votto homered for the seventh straight game, one shy of a major league record, and the Cincinnati Reds beat the New York Mets 6-2 on Friday night. Jonathan India went deep twice for the Reds, including a leadoff shot that came on Carlos Carrasco’s first pitch with the Mets. Acquired from Cleveland in January, the veteran right-hander finally made his New York debut after recovering from a hamstring injury. It was an up-and-down day for the Mets, who made a big deal to get Javier Báez from the Chicago Cubs before baseball’s trade deadline — and then revealed injured ace Jacob deGrom will be shut down for two more weeks because of inflammation in his pitching elbow, making it unlikely he’ll rejoin the NL East leaders before September. Báez was acquired from the Cubs along with right-hander Trevor Williams for outfield prospect Pete Crow-Armstrong, the Mets’ first-round pick in the 2020 amateur draft. Báez is expected to join the Mets on Saturday and will play shortstop... [More]
Thu Jul 15 202111:50Injury-plagued Dodgers keeping close in bid to repeat title
LOS ANGELES (AP) — The Los Angeles Dodgers waited 32 years to win the World Series again. The road to a repeat championship is never easy, and they head into the second half of the season hoping the worst of the bumps along the way are behind them. A suspended starting pitcher, injuries and offensive struggles have conspired against them. It’s the first time since 2016 the Dodgers haven’t been in first place at the All-Star break. But they're close. At 56-35, they have the second-most wins in the majors behind the rival San Francisco Giants (57-32). LA trails the first-place Giants by two games in the NL West, a division the Dodgers have won eight consecutive years. “Considering what all we’ve been through, I’d say it’s pretty good,” All-Star first baseman Max Muncy said. “We haven’t played anywhere near the caliber that we are capable of playing.” During one stretch, the Dodgers went 5-15. Injuries have knocked out starters Clayton Kershaw and Dustin May and shortstop Corey Seager, among... [More]
Mon Jul 12 202103:19From Spider Tack to Shohei's homers, MLB 1st half intrigues
The Boston Red Sox and San Francisco Giants are better than just about anyone expected. The Washington Nationals and Minnesota Twins have unexpectedly struggled. Shohei Ohtani has turned into the best two-way player since the Babe. Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and Fernando Tatis Jr. have continued their evolution into baseball-bashing superstars. Jacob deGrom has a 1.08 ERA, which could threaten the modern-era season record of 1.12 set in 1968 by Bob Gibson. A substance called Spider Tack became the hottest subject in the game for a few weeks. The Arizona Diamondbacks went two months and an MLB-record 24 games without winning a road contest. Seven no-hitters have been thrown (nine if you count Madison Bumgarner's 7-inning gem against the Atlanta Braves, and combo effort by the Rays. MLB doesn't.) The Seattle Mariners were on the losing end of no-hitters two times in less than two weeks — and still finished the first half with an encouraging 48-43 record. Baseball in 2021 may have its issues, but... [More]
Sun Jul 11 202102:09Acua needs season-ending surgery; Braves beat Marlins 5-4
MIAMI (AP) — Braves star Ronald Acuña Jr. will have season-ending surgery to repair a completely torn ACL in his right knee after he was injured during Atlanta’s 5-4 win over the Miami Marlins on Saturday. An MRI showed the severity of the injury and the Braves made the announcement shortly before midnight that their three-time All-Star will be out until at least next year. Acuña landed awkwardly on his right leg after jumping on the warning track in right field to try to catch a drive from Jazz Chisholm Jr. in the fifth inning. The 23-year-old slammed into the outfield wall and crumbled on the warning track, immediately grabbing his right knee while Chisholm sprinted out an inside-the-park homer. The 23-year-old Acuña did not put any weight on his right leg and had to be helped to a cart before being taken from the field. Freddie Freeman had a two-run homer and an RBI single, while Dansby Swanson and Austin Riley ripped doubles as the first three Braves reached base off All-Star pitcher... [More]
Mon Jul 5 202100:18Ohtani homers again as Angels beat Orioles 6-5
ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) — Shohei Ohtani hit his major league-leading 31st homer in the third, and Juan Lagares ended it with a two-run double in the ninth inning of the Los Angeles Angels’ 6-5 comeback victory over the Baltimore Orioles on Sunday. Cedric Mullins hit a tiebreaking homer for Baltimore in the ninth in his first game after making his first All-Star team, but the Angels jumped all over Cole Sulser (2-1) without making an out in the bottom half. After Los Angeles loaded the bases on a walk and two short singles, Lagares doubled to the gap in right-center, extending the Angels’ winning streak to five games. Raisel Iglesias (6-3) got the win. Ohtani tied the MLB record for the most homers in a season by a Japanese-born player when he blasted a 459-foot solo shot off Thomas Eshelman to straightaway center. It was his 14th homer in 17 games overall. Less than an hour later, Ohtani became the first player in major league history to be picked for an All-Star Game as both a hitter and... [More]

Fri Jun 25 202102:09Cubs combine on record-tying 7th no-hitter of MLB season
LOS ANGELES (AP) — Zach Davies and three Chicago Cubs relievers combined for the seventh no-hitter in the majors this year, blanking the Los Angeles Dodgers 4-0 Thursday night and tying the record for most in a single baseball season since 1900. The Dodgers drew eight walks, getting at least one from each Cubs pitcher, but managed no other baserunners. Davies (5-4) issued five walks and used 94 pitches to get through six innings against the defending World Series champions in the 16th start of his first season with the Cubs. Ryan Tepera and Andrew Chafin each went one inning. Craig Kimbrel then walked Chris Taylor leading off the ninth, but the closer struck out Cody Bellinger, Albert Pujols and pinch-hitter Will Smith to finish the 17th no-hitter in Cubs history — the team’s first combined effort. Javier Báez homered in the first inning and Willson Contreras added a two-run shot in the sixth for the Cubs, who happily celebrated the franchise’s first no-hitter since last Sept. 13, when... Fri Jun 25 202101:19Cubs have combined no-hitter through 8 innings vs Dodgers
LOS ANGELES (AP) — The Chicago Cubs are working on a combined no-hitter through eight innings against the Los Angeles Dodgers on Thursday night. The Cubs led 4-0 in their quest for the majors’ seventh no-hitter of the year — which would match four other seasons for the most in the majors since 1900. The Dodgers drew seven walks, but had no other baserunners heading to the ninth. Right-hander Zach Davies started with six resilient innings, and reliever Ryan Tepera issued one walk in the seventh. Andrew Chafin yielded another walk in the eighth. Davies issued five walks and used 94 pitches to get through the first six innings, but still managed to keep the defending World Series champions without a hit in the 16th start of his first season with the Cubs. Tepera, the busiest reliever in Chicago's solid bullpen, walked Gavin Lux with two outs in the seventh. Austin Barnes lined out to second to end another hitless inning. Chafin walked Mookie Betts with one out, but Max Muncy hit a grounder... [More]
