Thu Feb 14 201321:53Taylor taking ground balls at first
Michael Taylor is taking ground balls at first base this spring to increase his versatility.
"I'm just trying to be as versatile as possible, and if I can do that hopefully create more value for myself," said Taylor, who has never played first base as a pro. The 27-year old is following the lead of teammate Brandon Moss, who made the same transition last season. Taylor has had some success in the minor leagues, but it has yet to translate in the majors. Increasing his versatility only stands to help the former top prospect.

Michael Taylor was not in Sunday's lineup, despite A's manager Bob Melvin saying he would be.
"I put my foot in my mouth there," Melvin said. "I'll ease him in against some lefties. I jumped the gun on that one. ... He might play tomorrow. He's not here to sit, that's for sure." Taylor was a major disappointment in 2010, but the 25-year-old showed some signs of life this season by batting .272/.360/.456 with 16 homers, 14 stolen bases and an .816 OPS over 400 plate appearances at the Triple-A level. Mon Feb 28 201118:43Athletics' Taylor hits three-run homer
Michael Taylor went 2-for-5 and hit a three-run homer Monday versus the Angels.
Taylor projected as a member of Oakland's 2011 outfield after being acquired for Brett Wallace a year ago, but he had a disappointing 2010 in Triple-A. He'll head back to Sacramento this year, and with at least five and probably six outfielder ahead of him on the depth chart, he'll need to catch a break or two to have a chance to make an impact in the second half.
Fri Nov 19 201019:21Taylor added to 40-man roster
A's purchased the contract of OF Michael Taylor from Triple-A Sacramento.
Taylor is coming off a disappointing first season in the A's organization, hitting .272/.348/.392 with six homers and 16 steals over 464 at-bats at Triple-A Sacramento. He'll turn 25 next month but still has significant upside and could see time with Oakland at some point in 2011.
Wed Oct 13 201000:38Athletics' Taylor homers in AFL opener
Michael Taylor went 2-for-4 and homered Tuesday for the Desert Dogs of the AFL.
Taylor hit 19 homers in A ball in 2008 and 20 between Double- and Triple-A in 2009, but he finished with just six in 464 at-bats for Sacramento this year. He turns 25 in December, so the off season did hurt his stock quite a bit. Still, he could redeem himself somewhat with a strong showing this fall. There's little chance that he'll enter 2011 with a chance to start for the A's, but he could be first in line when outfield injuries strike.
Thu May 13 201014:10A's prospect Taylor out with a calf injury
Athletics prospect outfielder Michael Taylor is currently sidelined with a calf injury.
Athletics manager Bob Geren said the injury isn't considered serious, though he will likely go on the minor league disabled list. Taylor, 24, was acquired from the Blue Jays in December in exchange for prospect infielder Brett Wallace. Taylor was batting .232/.290/.408 with two homers and 22 RBI before suffering the injury on Tuesday. It's a disappointing start for the top prospect, but he's likely to see the majors at some point later this summer.
