Wed Nov 23 202218:38Angels Re-Sign Chad WallachChad WallachCMarlinsFree Agent
The Los Angeles Angels re-signed catcher Chad Wallach to a minor-league deal on Wednesday. Wallach entered free agency when he refused an outright assignment to Triple-A Salt Lake, but he will return to the Angels organization next year. The 31-year-old backstop played in just 12 games for the Halos in 2022, going 5-for-35 (.143) with a homer, four RBI and three runs scored. In six big-league seasons with the Angels, Cincinnati Reds and Miami Marlins, Wallach has hit just .198/.265/.296 with four home runs, 24 RBI and 17 runs scored in 271 plate appearances over 90 games played. He'll be looking to win a spot on the major-league roster out of spring training in 2023.

Wed Nov 23 202218:31Rockies Interested In Cody BellingerCody BellingerCFDodgersFree Agent
The Colorado Rockies are interested in free-agent outfielder Cody Bellinger, but only on a one-year deal, according to sources. Bellinger's agent, Scott Boras, said that Bellinger is looking for a one-year, bounce-back contract, so that would set the Rockies up to potentially sign the left-handed slugger. The Dodgers didn't tender Bellinger a contract after he hit just .210/.265/.389 with 19 home runs, 68 RBI, 70 runs scored and 14 stolen bases in 504 at-bats in 2022. He was the 2017 National League Rookie of the Year and the NL MVP in 2019, but right shoulder problems have made him a shadow of his former self as a hitter. The Chicago Cubs, San Francisco Giants and Toronto Blue Jays are the leading contenders at this point to sign Bellinger.

Wed Nov 23 202218:23Rangers Have Serious Interest In Carlos RodonCarlos RodónSPWhite SoxFree Agent
The Texas Rangers are among the most serious suitors for free-agent left-hander Carlos Rodon. It was reported several weeks ago that the New York Mets were another team with interest in the veteran southpaw. The Rangers already traded for righty Jake Odorizzi this offseason and are serious about upgrading their rotation heading into the 2023 season. Rodon would be a potential ace for Texas after he rejected the San Francisco Giants' qualifying offer in order to test the open market this winter. The 29-year-old has been an All-Star the last two seasons and went 14-8 with a 2.88 ERA (league-low 2.25 FIP), a 1.03 WHIP, a career-high 237 strikeouts and 52 walks in 178 innings over 31 starts for San Fran.

Wed Nov 23 202218:15Giants Expected To Make Formal Offer To Aaron JudgeAaron JudgeRFYankeesFree Agent
The San Francisco Giants had a chance to give their free-agent pitch to outfielder Aaron Judge the last two days, and MLB.com's Jon Paul Morosi expects the Giants to make a formal offer to Judge within the week. Judge and his agent had dinner with president/CEO Larry Baer, president of baseball operations Farhan Zaidi, manager Gabe Kapler and other members of the organization on Monday and continued to meet with the team on Tuesday. Morosi could see Judge signing with a team in the next two weeks by the end of the Winter Meetings. The 2022 American League MVP broke the AL home run record with 62 home runs for the New York Yankees last season and will be cashing in on the open market this winter, whether it be with the Yankees, Giants or another team. And wherever he lands, Judge will remain an elite power bat in fantasy.

Wed Nov 23 202218:08Bryce Harper Undergoes Tommy John SurgeryBryce HarperRFPhilliesFree Agent
Philadelphia Phillies outfielder Bryce Harper (elbow) underwent Tommy John surgery on Wednesday, and the procedure went "very well," according to a person with knowledge of the situation. Harper could be back hitting competitively in mid-May. The Phillies official Twitter account reports that the prognosis is for Harper to return as the designated hitter by the All-Star break in 2023, with a possible return to play right field towards the end of the regular season. The 30-year-old All-Star will miss the start of the regular season next year after playing through a UCL injury to his right arm for most of the 2022 campaign. He still hit well despite the injury, batting .286/.364/.514 with an .877 OPS, 18 homers, 65 RBI, 63 run scored and 11 stolen bases in 370 at-bats, so fantasy managers shouldn't expect much of a drop-off, if any, when he returns.

Wed Nov 23 202200:32Giants Interested In Brandon Nimmo, Cody BellingerBrandon NimmoCFMetsFree Agent
Cody BellingerCFDodgersFree Agent
San Francisco Chronicles' Susan Slusser reported Tuesday that the San Francisco Giants have checked in on free-agent outfielders Brandon Nimmo and Cody Bellinger. The Giants agreed to a one-year deal with Mike Yastrzemski earlier in the off-season, but they could still use a good deal of help at the position. Nimmo would provide a reliable source of offensive production and solid defense. He had a successful 2022 season with the Mets, slashing .274/.367/.433 with 16 home runs, 64 RBI, and three stolen bases. Bellinger would provide defense and speed but would be a much bigger unknown offensively, as he struggled with the Dodgers during the 2021-22 seasons but showed strong skills earlier in his career.

Wed Nov 23 202200:18Trea Turner "Likely" Phillies' Top SS TargetTrea TurnerSSDodgersFree Agent
Free agent shortstop Trea Turner is "likely" the Philadelphia Phillies' top target among all available players at the position, per MLB.com's Mark Feinsand. Turner would provide defensive stability to a generally weak overall defense while adding to an already-strong lineup. This move would also allow for a reunion between Turner and Bryce Harper, who were former teammates with the Washington Nationals. The 29-year-old will remain a top fantasy option regardless of where he signs, as he slashed .298/.343/.466 with 21 home runs, 100 RBI, 101 runs scores, and 27 stolen bases with the Dodgers in 2022.

Wed Nov 23 202200:10Angels Trade For Hunter Renfroe TuesdayHunter RenfroeRFRed SoxFree Agent
The Los Angeles Angeles acquired outfielder Hunter Renfroe from the Milwaukee Brewers Tuesday in exchange for pitchers Janson Junk, Elvis Peguero, and Adam Seminaris. The 30-year-old will likely slot into an everyday outfield role with Mike Trout and Taylor Ward while providing power to the Angels' lineup. Renfroe slashed .255/.315/.492 with 29 home runs and 72 RBI in 522 plate appearances with the Brewers in 2022. From a fantasy perspective, this move theoretically puts Renfroe in a worse lineup, but the Angels have shown that they are willing to make improvements this off-season. A clearer picture of Renfroe's potential value will emerge once rosters become more complete.

The Pittsburgh Pirates have reportedly claimed first baseman, Lewin Diaz, off waivers, per a tweet from The Miami Herald's Craig Mish on Tuesday. Mish tweeted: "Pirates claimed First Baseman Lewin Diaz from the Marlins off waivers per source." Diaz appeared in 58 games for the Marlins last season, logging 174 plate appearances and hitting .169 with a .224 on-base percentage, five home runs, and a stolen base. In 368 plate appearances with Miami's Triple-A club last year, he logged a .252 average to go along with a .323 on-base percentage and 19 home runs. Tue Nov 22 202200:54Cody Bellinger Reportedly Looking For One-Year DealCody BellingerCFDodgersFree Agent
The Athletic's Ken Rosenthal reported Sunday that free agent first baseman/outfielder Cody Bellinger is interested in signing a one-year deal over a multi-year, per his agent Scott Boras. The 27-year-old was non-tendered by the Dodgers after slashing .210/.265/.389 with 19 home runs, 68 RBI, and 14 stolen bases in 550 plate appearances. While he struggled at the plate in the 2021-22 seasons, he provides solid defense and speed and has a high pedigree, winning the 2017 National League Rookie of the Year award and the 2019 NL Most Valuable Player award. Perhaps if Bellinger can return to a fraction of his previous offensive performance in 2023, he can set himself up for a more lucrative multi-year deal in 2024 free agency. Bellinger remains in the back of fantasy managers' minds given his past success, but he will need to prove that he still has those skills before he can be trusted next season.

The Atlanta Braves and Minnesota Twins have reportedly shown interest in free agent outfielder Mitch Haniger, per Prospects Lives' Joe Doyle. MLB Networks' Jon Morosi also tweeted Monday that the Dodgers, Angels, and Rangers are interested in the 31-year-old. Haniger has had difficulty staying healthy throughout his career, but he has typically provided power and RBI from an offensive standpoint. He slashed .246/.308/.429 with 11 home runs and 34 RBI in 247 plate appearances with the Mariners in 2022. Haniger will likely be a useful fantasy option in 2023 if he can stay on the field, particularly if he signs with any of the teams reportedly interested in him.

Free agent outfielder Aaron Judge was seen in San Francisco Monday and will reportedly meet with the San Francisco Giants on Tuesday, per MLB.com's Mark Feinsand. The Giants are the first team other than the Yankees to meet with the reigning American League Most Valuable Player this offseason and are considered a significant competitor in signing Judge. Judge is believed to be seeking a deal of at least eight years with an average annual value exceeding $40 million. The sweepstakes for Judge is justified, as he slashed .311/.425/.686 with 62 home runs, 131 RBI, and 16 stolen bases in 2022. He will be a top fantasy pick in 2023 wherever he lands.
