Mon Feb 27 202312:46Cal Raleigh Scheduled To Make Spring Debut Tuesday
Seattle Mariners catcher Cal Raleigh (thumb) is scheduled to make his Cactus League debut on Tuesday to catch starter Luis Castillo against the Cleveland Guardians. The Mariners have been holding Raleigh back a bit in camp as a precaution. Raleigh needed surgery for a broken left thumb and torn ligaments in the offseason, but he's been doing baseball activities in spring training and should be ready for the start of the 2023 season, barring any setbacks in camp. The 26-year-old backstop hit just .211 in 2022, but he also led all catchers with 27 home runs, so he should be a highly coveted power bat at the shallowest position in fantasy. It also helps that he's in one of the better lineups in the American League.

Wed Feb 1 202318:36Cal Raleigh Had Offseason Thumb Surgery
Seattle Mariners catcher Cal Raleigh (thumb) underwent offseason surgery on his left thumb. Raleigh was able to catch left-hander Marco Gonzales' bullpen session on Tuesday in Arizona without any issues, though, so he should be ready for the start of the 2023 season. The 26-year-old still hasn't been cleared for full baseball activities, so he could be slightly behind the other catchers in camp. His surgery took place last fall and addressed a broken left thumb and a torn ligament in his hand. Raleigh clubbed 27 home runs and drove in 63 runs in 119 games in just his second MLB season for Seattle in 2022, so he'll be pretty attractive as a low-end starting catcher in fantasy drafts this spring, assuming he has no setbacks with his thumb in spring training.

Sun Oct 16 202213:15Cal Raleigh Has Been Playing Through Injury
Seattle Mariners catcher Cal Raleigh (thumb) has been battling through an injury down the stretch of the season. The 25-year-old revealed that he has been playing through broken left thumb and torn ligament in his left hand for over a month. The Mariners were eliminated on Saturday, so Raleigh will have the entire offseason to recover from this injury. He slashed .211/.284/.489 with 27 home runs and 63 RBI in 415 plate appearances this season. Raleigh looks like he's going to be the catcher for the Mariners for the foreseeable future.

Mon Sep 26 202209:00Cal Raleigh Aggravates Thumb Injury
Seattle Mariners catcher Cal Raleigh (thumb) aggravated a thumb injury during Sunday's contest against the Kansas City Royals. He initially injured his thumb while catching and was removed in the bottom of the sixth inning. The 25-year-old was dealing with a thumb issue and missed a few games earlier in the week. According to manager Scott Servais, Raleigh was removed from the game when the injured thumb took a hit catching. Strength tests on the field were "okay." Raleigh is considered day-to-day with his next chance to return to the lineup on Tuesday against the Texas Rangers.

Wed Sep 21 202218:39Cal Raleigh Returns Against A's
Seattle Mariners catcher Cal Raleigh (thumb) is back behind the dish and is hitting sixth on Wednesday against the Oakland Athletics and right-hander James Kaprielian. Raleigh has been missing in action of late due to a thumb injury, but he's back in there for the M's on Wednesday. The 25-year-old has plenty of pop (23 home runs), but he also only has a .204 batting average (69-for-338) on the season, adding 54 RBI, 41 runs scored and a stolen base in 109 games in his second big-league season with the Mariners. Fantasy managers are hoping Raleigh can be more consistent to close things out. He's hitting .231 (9-for-39) with four home runs, nine RBI and seven runs scored in 12 games so far in September.

Mon Sep 19 202215:11Cal Raleigh's Thumb Still Bothering Him
Seattle Mariners catcher Cal Raleigh's left thumb is still bothering him on defense and on offense, and he's available only in an emergency on Monday against the Los Angeles Angels. Raleigh will miss his second straight game on Monday and should be considered day-to-day for now. In his second major-league season for Seattle, Raleigh is hitting just .204 with a .278 on-base percentage, but he's hit 23 home runs and driven in 54 runs in 378 plate appearances over 109 games played. Curt Casali will be behind the plate again on Monday and will bat ninth in the batting order against Angels left-hander Jose Suarez. Casali is a weak DFS play at the position, as he's hitting just .211 (28-for-133) on the season with four home runs and 16 RBI.

Sat Sep 17 202218:48Cal Raleigh Returns To The Lineup
Seattle Mariners catcher Cal Raleigh (thumb) is back in the starting lineup for Saturday's game against the Los Angeles Angels. The switch-hitting catcher missed their last contest after jamming his thumb. He's slashing .204/.277/.471 with 23 home runs and 54 RBI in 107 games. His 23 homers leads all catchers, so at least he's got that going for him. Fantasy managers should make sure to get Raleigh back in their lineup for Saturday.

Wed Jul 27 202211:48Cal Raleigh Homers And Doubles
Seattle Mariners catcher Cal Raleigh went 2-for-4 at the plate Tuesday night with a home run and a double, driving in two runs and scoring two more en route to a 5-4 victory over the division-rival Texas Rangers. Raleigh has been a strong fantasy option at catcher since taking over most of the playing time with injuries to Tom Murphy and Luis Torrens, slashing a solid .250/.327/.531 with six homers over his last 30 games. There's plenty of swing and miss in his profile, but the power upside makes up for this in a weaker catcher pool.

Sun Jul 17 202223:29Cal Raleigh Takes AL Lead In Homers For Catcher
Seattle Mariners catcher Cal Raleigh went deep Sunday, and in doing so placed himself atop the leaderboard for home runs by a backstop in the American League with 13 long balls. Raleigh has hit six of those dingers in his last 30 games, slugging .525 in his 99 at-bats over that span. With Luis Torrens and Tom Murphy out with injuries, Raleigh has taken over the lion's share of the work behind the plate for Seattle, and it should remain that way for the foreseeable future. With a .755 OPS, 22 runs scored, 34 RBI, and one steal in 216 plate appearances this year, he's worth a look in all formats.

Tue May 24 202214:00Cal Raleigh Knocks Fourth Homer
Seattle Mariners catcher Cal Raleigh hit his fourth home run of the season Monday, going 2-for-4 from the ninth spot in the lineup in a 7-6 victory over the Oakland Athletics. With Tom Murphy out injured, Raleigh and Luis Torrens have been splitting the catching duties, occasionally even both making the starting lineup by use of the designated hitter. Raleigh does not currently over much in the way of batting average, as he's only tallied four hits in May, but three of those have gone over the fence. In deeper leagues and two-catcher formats, that power from behind the plate is enough to be worthy of an add.

Thu Apr 28 202212:03Cal Raleigh Sent To Minors
The Seattle Mariners sent catcher Cal Raleigh and right-hander Yohan Ramirez to Triple-A Tacoma on Thursday. In corresponding moves, the Mariners recalled right-handers Penn Murfee and Wyatt Mills from Tacoma and moved infielder Evan White to the 60-day injured list. Raleigh was the team's starting catcher on Opening Day, but since then he's been sharing playing time with both Tom Murphy and Luis Torrens. He appeared in a total of nine games and went just 2-for-24 with a 32.1% strikeout rate and one home run. The catching prospect will see regular playing time at Tacoma and should resurface in Seattle at some point in 2022. In 56 career MLB games, Raleigh has hit just .162, so he could use a bit more minor league seasoning.

Fri Sep 24 202112:27Cal Raleigh Hits Two-Run Shot
Seattle Mariners catcher Cal Raleigh went deep Thursday, knocking a two-run home run off Oakland Athletics pitcher James Kaprielian in the fifth inning of a 6-5 victory. Raleigh also doubled in four at-bats. He now has two career home runs to his name in 130 at-bats and has plenty of future fantasy potential, but with a .177/.217/.308 slash line this season, he's hard to count on down the stretch.

Sun Sep 12 202100:49Cal Raleigh Doubles Twice To Break Hitless Streak
Seattle Mariners catcher Cal Raleigh showed some signs of life Saturday, going 2-for-4 with two doubles against the Arizona Diamondbacks. Entering the game, Raleigh had gone hitless in seven straight games, with an 0-for-18 line in that time. His .168/.215/.274 slash line for the season makes him unusable in fantasy for now, but he should hold value in dynasty leagues as a catcher option in the years to come.
