Wed May 11 202221:13Jake Cronenworth Batting .214 Following Wednesday's Game
San Diego Padres infielder Jake Cronenworth's batting average dropped to .214 after Wednesday's game, in which he went 0-for-4 with an RBI and two strikeouts during the 7-5 loss to the Chicago Cubs. Although his walk rate and strikeout rate are sitting at 12.8% and 18.4%, respectively, he hasn't gotten it going and owns a .657 OPS with two home runs. However, he continues to lead off, has 15 runs and 15 RBI, and his expected batting average is sitting at .253. Fantasy managers should at least expect the 28-year-old to contribute counting stats without hurting the batting average moving forward.

Tue Apr 19 202214:47Jake Cronenworth Drawing Walks Early
San Diego Padres infielder Jake Cronenworth is batting .190 with a .314 on-base percentage in his first 51 plate appearances of the season. The batting average is decidedly low, but Cronenworth has logged a 13.7% walk rate so far. His batting average and overall production may be impacted by a .229 BABIP, which should even out over time. Cronenworth has also only driven in five runs, but that number should eventually go up as well, as long as he continues to hit behind the likes of Manny Machado, Trent Grisham, and Austin Nola.

Sun Apr 3 202222:57Jake Cronenworth Goes 0-For-3 On Sunday
San Diego Padres second baseman Jake Cronenworth went 0-for-3 with a walk and a strikeout in a Spring Training game versus the Athletics. Cronenworth is batting .222 with a .835 OPS this Spring as the 28-year-old figures to be a key contributor for the Padres with star shortstop Fernando Tatis Jr. (wrist) set to begin the season on the injured list. Cronenworth didn't light the world on fire in 2021, but he quietly had a nice season for fantasy managers with 21 homers and an .800 OPS while maintaining triple-position eligibility. With an average draft position near 120th overall, Cronenworth is a strong infield target in the middle rounds of fantasy drafts.

Mon Oct 4 202112:49Jake Cronenworth Proves Legitimacy In 2021
San Diego Padres infielder Jake Cronenworth entrenched himself as an everyday big leaguer after a successful sophomore campaign. The 27-year-old tallied a .266/.340/.460 slash with 21 homers, four steals and 165 runs-plus-RBI over 643 plate appearances, earning an All-Star bid while playing both first and second base. Under team control through 2026, Cronenworth should remain a vital piece in a Friars squad that enters 2022 with high expectations. With his excellent plate discipline, Cronenworth's .276 xBA and 14 percent strikeout rate support a sustainable ability to provide usable fantasy production as a potential top-20 middle infielder going forward.

Sat Sep 25 202118:23Jake Cronenworth Isn't Starting On Saturday
San Diego Padres infielder Jake Cronenworth isn't in the starting lineup on Saturday. The Padres will take on the Atlanta Braves and right-hander Huascar Ynoa but will do so with one of their best hitters on the bench. Cronenworth is batting .266 with a .342 on-base percentage, 20 home runs, and four stolen bases in 614 plate appearances this season. Eric Hosmer is starting at first base on Saturday after Cronenworth got the start there on Friday. Hosmer is batting .269 with a .337 on-base percentage, 11 home runs, and five stolen bases in 541 plate appearances this season. Fantasy managers are probably better off looking elsewhere for streaming help at first base.

Tue Sep 14 202119:36Jake Cronenworth Takes Batting Practice On Tuesday
San Diego Padres infielder Jake Cronenworth (finger) is taking part in batting practice prior to the team's game against the San Francisco Giants on Tuesday. According to AJ Cassavell of MLB.com, the Giants are hopeful that Cronenworth will return for this weekend's series against the St. Louis Cardinals. The 27-year-old has been out since last Friday when he was hit on the left hand by a Julio Urias pitch. Fernando Tatis Jr. has been manning shortstop in Cronenworth's absence, but Tatis will likely move back to the outfield once Cronenworth is back. Additionally, Tommy Pham and Wil Myers are both likely to see decreased playing time once Cronenworth returns.

Sat Sep 11 202109:00Jake Cronenworth Fractures Finger
San Diego Padres infielder Jake Cronenworth (finger) has been diagnosed with a small fracture on his left ring finger, according to manager Jayce Tingler. The 27-year-old was hit in the left hand by a changeup from Los Angeles Dodgers starting pitcher Julio Urias in the top of the third inning on Friday. The injury could force the Padres to move outfielder Fernando Tatis Jr. back to shortstop, creating an opportunity for the Padres to start Wil Myers, Tommy Pham, and Trent Grisham full-time. For Cronenworth, his terrific sophomore and All-Star season has likely come to an end, posting 20 HR, 63 RBI, 89 R, and four stolen bases with a .270/.348/.466 line across 581 at-bats.

San Diego Padres infielder Jake Cronenworth reached base three times Monday, going 2-for-3 with a walk, and he came around to score twice. Cronenworth has had a very solid season, but he's been especially successful in his last 30 games, slashing .278/.346/.548 with five homers in that span. Cronenworth should be a popular trade target for fantasy managers, as his durability, flexibility, and all-around statistical profile make him a fit for any roster heading into fantasy playoffs.

Mon Aug 16 202101:46Jake Cronenworth Hits Two-Run Jack
San Diego Padres infielder Jake Cronenworth went deep Sunday, hitting a two-run home run off of Arizona Diamondbacks starting pitcher Zac Gallen. It was his 17th of the year. Cronenworth went 1-for-3 with two walks, three RBI, and a run scored in this one. Cronenworth has stepped into the shortstop position since Fernando Tatis Jr. reinjured his shoulder, and he remained there now that Tatis Jr. has seemingly been shifted to the outfield. Cronenworth's eligibility all over the infield only increases his value, but the 17 homers, 77 runs, 58 RBI, and four steals would be plenty valuable at any position.

Wed Aug 11 202113:36Jake Cronenworth Absent From Wednesday's Lineup
San Diego Padres shortstop Jake Cronenworth is not in the starting lineup for Wednesday's game as the team prepares to take on Sandy Alcantara and the Miami Marlins. Ha-Seong Kim is getting the start at shortstop and batting ninth in the game. Cronenworth has been hot at the plate lately. Through eight games this month, he's slashing .281/.343/.531 with one home run, five doubles, eight RBI and five runs. He's been one of the toughest players in the league to strikeout this year. His 14.2% whiff rate ranks in the 97th percentile while his 14.3% strikeout rate ranks in the 93rd percentile.

Mon Aug 9 202100:12Jake Cronenworth Powers Friars To Victory
San Diego Padres infielder Jake Cronenworth went 2-for-4 with a home run, and two RBI Sunday against the Arizona Diamondbacks. Cronenworth accounted for both Friar runs in the 2-0 victory, singling in second baseman Adam Frazier in the first inning before launching an offering from D-Backs starter Madison Bumgarner into the seats in the fourth frame. Starting at shortstop on Sunday, the 27-year-old continues his stellar sophomore campaign, slashing .275/.348/.473 with 16 long balls, four steals and 128 runs-plus-RBI in 469 plate appearances. With shortstop Fernando Tatis Jr. (shoulder) expected to get outfield reps upon his return, the versatile Cronenworth should become even more valuable to the Padres and fantasy managers with his positional versatility. He should be locked into lineups of all sizes.

Sun Aug 1 202123:52Jake Cronenworth Steps Up For Friars
San Diego Padres infielder Jake Cronenworth went 3-for-4 with two doubles, two runs scored and two RBI in Sunday's 8-1 rout of the Colorado Rockies. Cronenworth started the scoring in the first frame with a two-run double and finished the series with two homers, four runs and six RBI. With star shortstop Fernando Tatis Jr. (shoulder) out indefinitely, the 27-year-old will be relied upon for more offensive production. He's answered the bell so far in 2021, slashing .279/.351/.477 with 15 long balls, four steals and 121 runs-plus-RBI across 446 plate appearances. Cronenworth should remain a versatile infield option in all fantasy formats.

Fri Jul 30 202113:20Jake Cronenworth Smacks Clutch Insurance Home Run
San Diego Padres infielder Jake Cronenworth pounded a clutch two-run homer Thursday against the Colorado Rockies. Cronenworth extended a slim 1-0 lead with an eighth-inning blast against reliever Daniel Bard for his only knock in four chances. While he's only tallied one multi-hit game in the past nine contests, Cronenworth remains a valuable fantasy asset with his .277/.349/.467 slash, 14 long balls, four steals and 114 runs-plus-RBI in 434 plate appearances. While Cronenworth will play more first base with second baseman/infielder Adam Frazier in the mix, any lost playing time should not come at the 27-year-old's expense.
