Tue Aug 10 202110:37Eddie Rosario To Begin Rehab Assignment Tuesday
Atlanta Braves outfielder Eddie Rosario (abdominal) is set to begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A Gwinnett on Tuesday. He was acquired from the Cleveland Indians at the trade deadline, but the Braves knew he'd need some time to rest and recover. He'll likely be a part-time outfielder in Atlanta, so there won't be a lot of upside here. Rosario is slashing .254/.296/.389 with seven homers and nine steals this season. He might be a deep league asset, but that's likely all he'll offer right now.

Atlanta Braves outfielder Eddie Rosario (ab), who was acquired in a trade from Cleveland, is likely to begin a rehab stint within the next week, according to MLB.com. Rosario has taken batting practice over the past couple of days and says he feels good. He is on the injured list with an abdominal strain, but when he returns to action he'll provide a solid boost to Atlanta's outfield for the stretch drive. Over 78 games this year, Rosario is slashing .254/.296/.389 with seven homers, nine steals, 46 RBI and 29 runs scored. Fantasy managers needing help in the outfield can look to scoop him up in leagues where he's available or target him in a trade.

After a run-up that saw the likes of Nelson Cruz, Anthony Rizzo, Joey Gallo and Adam Frazier swapped, even more big names changed teams during a whirlwind Friday. From contenders boosting their roster to the also-ran Chicago Cubs and Washington Nationals gutting theirs, this was a monster day for moves. “They all feel busy, but today was nonstop,” said Cleveland president of baseball operations Chris Antonetti, who made three trades. “We executed a number of trades but there were probably at least another dozen other ones that we contemplated seriously at different points in time and exchanged different ideas,” he said. Fri Jul 30 202122:25Indians acquire OF Straw from Astros for RHP Maton
CLEVELAND (AP) — The Indians made another trade just before the deadline Friday, sending reliever Phil Maton to the AL West-leading Houston Astros for outfielder Myles Straw. Cleveland, which dealt second baseman Cesar Hernandez and outfielder Eddie Rosario in separate trades, also sent catcher Yainer Diaz to Houston for the speedy Straw, who will fill an open outfield spot for the remainder of this season — and maybe beyond. Maton has been used in a setup role this season, his third with the Indians. The 28-year-old right-hander was 2-0 with a 4.57 ERA in 38 appearances. The 26-year-old Straw batted .262 with two homers and 34 RBIs in 98 games for the Astros. He has also scored 44 runs and is currently tied second in the AL with 17 steals in 22 attempts. Straw has also played well defensively, without an error over 96 games in center field. A right-handed hitter, Straw was drafted in the 12th round by Houston in 2015. When asked about whether he wished the Astros kept Straw, manager Dusty Baker said: “I can’t answer that. I don’t think that’s anybody’s business. I’m not the decision maker, so sometimes you have to do what the organization asks. Sometimes you don’t have a choice.” ___ More AP MLB: https://apnews.com/hub/mlb and https://twitter.com/AP_Sports

Fri Jul 30 202118:35Braves reload for chase in mediocre NL East with 4 trades
ATLANTA (AP) — The Atlanta Braves’ flurry of trade-deadline moves on Friday highlighted how fortunate they are to be in the NL East, where any team close to .500 is still relevant. Though the Braves entered the day one game under .500, they were only four games behind the first-place New York Mets. Emboldened by the standings, general manager Alex Anthopoulos acquired outfielders Adam Duvall, Jorge Soler and Eddie Rosario and reliever Richard Rodriguez in an attempt to position Atlanta for a run at its fourth consecutive division title. The moves were notable for a team that has not been above .500 all season. “There’s no doubt we’ve had our challenges,” Anthopoulos said. “The one thing that’s fortunate for us is we’re playing in the NL East in 2021. We’re all in it.” The Mets, second-place Phillies and Braves are still in the race. The Nationals and Marlins bowed out, moving veterans for prospects at the trade deadline. “From our standpoint, when talent leaves the NL East, we’re certainly... [More]
Fri Jul 30 202118:25Busy at deadline, Indians trade OF Eddie Rosario to Braves
CLEVELAND (AP) — Eddie Rosario had moments for the Indians. Not nearly enough of them. Reshuffling its roster with an eye toward the future with several deals before the trading deadline Friday, Cleveland traded Rosario to the Atlanta Braves, who needed another quality hitter to make a run for the NL East. The Indians got veteran infielder Pablo Sandoval, and immediately released the 2012 Wold Series MVP. It was Cleveland's second significant trade in two days. On Thursday, the Indians essentially signaled surrender in the AL Central by dealing second baseman Cesar Hernandez to the first-place White Sox for a minor league pitcher. The Indians made two other smaller deals on Friday. Rosario signed a one-year, $8 million free agent contract this winter with the Indians. They were hoping the outfielder would hit for them the way he did with the Minnesota Twins, but Rosario was injured and never got rolling. The 29-year-old Rosario has been on the injured list since July 6 with an oblique strain,... [More]

Fri Jul 30 202114:25Indians trade OF Rosario to Braves for Sandoval
CLEVELAND (AP) — With the NL East still up for grabs, the Atlanta Braves needed another quality hitter for the season's second half. The Indians had one to offer. Cleveland made its second significant trade in two days, sending outfielder Eddie Rosario to the Braves for infielder Pablo Sandoval on Friday. Rosario signed a one-year, $8 million free agent contract this winter with the Indians, who essentially signaled surrender in the AL Central on Thursday by dealing second baseman Cesar Hernandez to the first-place White Sox for a minor league pitcher. The Braves will pay a portion of Rosario's contract, easing the financial burden on the Indians, who have been ravaged by injuries and are quickly fading from the playoff chase. Atlanta's been in the market to bolster its lineup since losing its best player when All-Star outfielder Ronald Acuña Jr. suffered a season-ending knee injury while trying to make a leaping catch earlier this month. The Braves also acquired outfielder Adam Duvall... [More]
Fri Jul 30 202114:25Braves bolster outfield by re-acquiring Duvall from Marlins
ATLANTA (AP) — The Atlanta Braves bolstered their depleted outfield on Friday by acquiring Adam Duvall from the Miami Marlins for catcher Alex Jackson. The 32-year-old Duvall is returning to Atlanta, where he played the last three seasons. He hit .229 and ranks among the top 10 in the National League with 22 home runs and 68 RBIs in 90 games for Miami this season. The Braves also acquired outfielder Eddie Rosario and cash from Cleveland for infielder Pablo Sandoval on Friday. On July 15, Atlanta landed outfielder Joc Pederson in a trade that sent first baseman Bryce Ball to the Chicago Cubs. The Braves needed to revamp their outfield as they attempt to remain in the hunt for a fourth consecutive NL East title. Atlanta suffered a severe blow to its playoff hopes when it lost Ronald Acuña Jr. to a season-ending knee injury on July 10. Braves left fielder Marcell Ozuna, who was on the injured list, is facing domestic violence charges following an arrest at his home in May. He has not played since. The Braves first acquired Duvall at the 2018 trade deadline. He was an All-Star with the Reds in 2016, when he set career highs with 33 homers and 103 RBIs. Jackson, 25, has three hits in 43 at-bats (.070) in 19 games with Atlanta the last three seasons. ___ More AP MLB: https://apnews.com/hub/MLB and https://twitter.com/AP_Sports
Fri Jul 30 202113:45Indians trade OF Rosario to Braves for Sandoval
CLEVELAND (AP) — The Cleveland Indians made their second significant trade in two days, sending outfielder Eddie Rosario to the Atlanta Braves for infielder Pablo Sandoval on Friday. Rosario signed as a free agent this winter with the Indians, who essentially signaled surrender in the AL Central on Thursday by dealing second baseman Cesar Hernandez to the first-place White Sox for a minor league pitcher. Cleveland, which has been ravaged by injuries, trails Chicago by eight games entering a weekend series between the teams. Also, Indians manager Terry Francona has stepped down for the rest of this season to address some serious health issues. The 29-year-old Rosario has been on the injured list since July 6 with an oblique strain. He's batting .254 with seven homers and 46 RBIs in 78 games. Sandoval has been mainly used as a pinch-hitter by the Braves. The 34-year-old has four pinch-hit homers this season, and is batting .178 with 11 RBIs in 69 games. Sandoval was the World Series MVP in 2012 for San Francisco. ___ More AP MLB: https://apnews.com/hub/MLB and https://twitter.com/AP_Sports

Fri Jul 30 202113:15Eddie Rosario Traded To Atlanta Braves
Cleveland Indians outfielder Eddie Rosario has been traded to the Atlanta Braves for third baseman Pablo Sandoval, according to Mandy Bell of MLB.com. Rosario is currently on the injured list with an abdominal strain and is expected to be out for a couple more weeks, but when he returns to action he'll provide a solid boost to Atlanta's outfield. Over 78 games this year, Rosario is slashing .254/.296/.389 with seven homers, nine steals, 46 RBI and 29 runs scored. Sandoval meanwhile won't provide much value in fantasy, as he should remain a bench bat with Cleveland after slashing .178/.302/.342 with four homers, 11 RBI and 11 runs scored over 69 games with Atlanta.

Thu Jul 8 202117:49Plesac back, starting for Indians after freak thumb injury
CLEVELAND (AP) — Indians starter Zach Plesac has been activated from the injured list and will make his first start since breaking a thumb in May while removing his undershirt. Plesac will start Thursday night against the Kansas City Royals as the Indians try to end a nine-game losing streak — the club's longest since 2012. Manager Terry Francona said the plan is for Plesac to throw “60ish” pitches in his first outing as he builds up arm strength. Plesac recently completed a rehab stint at Double-A Akron and is itching to help the slumping Indians. “He has been exemplary in his work, which is not surprising,” Francona said. "We’ve had people from other teams come to us and say, you know, watching this kid on the field, man, wow, that’s pretty special what he’s doing. “So that makes us proud. And we knew he wanted to pitch right away for us. I think we have an obligation though to make sure that guys can compete with health and not hurt themselves, so there was a reason we had him go twice... [More]

The return of the 26-year-old Plesac is a much-needed boost to the Indians, who are still missing top starters Shane Bieber (shoulder) and Aaron Civale (finger). They aren't supposed to be back for several more weeks. Cleveland has also had several other key players out with injuries, the latest outfielder Eddie Rosario. He went on the injured list Wednesday with a strained right abdominal muscle. Plesac last pitched for the Indians on May 23 at Minnesota. After giving up five runs in 3 2/3 innings, he aggressively yanked off his shirt and injured his thumb. Plesac described the incident recently as a “weird series of events.” He's 4-3 with a 4.14 ERA in 10 starts. ___ More AP MLB: https://apnews.com/hub/MLB and https://twitter.com/AP_Sports

Wed Jul 7 202112:28Indians' Eddie Rosario placed on IL with abdominal strain
ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (AP) — The injury-depleted Cleveland Indians placed outfielder Eddie Rosario on the 10-day injured list Wednesday with a right abdominal strain. Rosario, hurt running out a grounder in the second inning of Monday night’s 9-8 loss at Tampa Bay, joined a list of key players out that also includes starting pitchers Shane Bieber, Aaron Civale and Zach Plesac. Ramírez also left last Thursday’s game against Houston with right abdominal tightness, one day after fouling a pitch off his left cheek against Detroit. He sat out Friday’s game against the Astros. “We think it’s mild,” Cleveland president Chris Antonetti said. “That’s our best assessment at this point. We just felt with the continued lingering soreness in there it made sense to make the IL move, especially with the All-Star break and you’re not playing games for four days. It just seemed to make sense that now was the right time to give him a bit of a rest.” Plesac is scheduled to return and start Thursday night’s... [More]
Mon Jul 5 202120:08Indians' Ramírez back in lineup after missing 3 games
ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (AP) — Cleveland Indians All-Star third baseman José Ramírez was back in the starting lineup for Monday night’s game at Tampa Bay after missing three games because of a sore left elbow. Also, Zach Plesac is scheduled to return and start Thursday night’s game against Kansas City after being out with a broken thumb on his pitching hand. The right-hander will go to the team’s complex in Arizona during the All-Star break next week for a simulated game and then is scheduled to pitch against Oakland on July 18. Cleveland left fielder Eddie Rosario left Monday night's game with right side tightness after grounding out on a high-hopper to shortstop in the second inning. He sat out last Friday's game with Houston after exiting early Thursday with right abdominal tightness. Ramírez was hurt diving for a ball Thursday in the series opener against Houston, one day after fouling a pitch off his left cheek against Detroit. Sat Jul 3 202116:47Indians activate catcher Pérez, sidelined since early May
CLEVELAND (AP) — The Indians got back one of their key missing pieces Saturday, activating catcher Roberto Pérez from the injured list. A two-time Gold Glove winner, Pérez has been out since undergoing surgery on his right index finger in May. Pérez initially got hurt when he got crossed up on a pitch from reliever James Karnichak in an April 13 game in Chicago. Pérez continued to play with the injury, but it wasn't healing and he needed an operation. He's batting just .131 in 61 at-bats, but the 32-year-old is invaluable defensively and in handling Cleveland's staff. Pérez was active for Saturday night's game against the Astros and was set to catch Sunday. With Pérez coming back, the Indians designated backup catcher René Rivera for assignment. The 37-year-old Rivera did a nice job filling in for Austin Hedges, who will move into his usual role behind Pérez. The Indians have been ravaged by injuries all season, and they're beginning to take a toll. Cleveland had lost six of seven when... [More]
