Thu Oct 6 2011 | 11:24 | Multiple teams interested in Kouzmanoff |
According to Tim Dierkes of MLB Trade Rumors, multiple teams are interested in signing free agent Kevin Kouzmanoff to a major league contract. |
Kouzmanoff elected free agency after being outrighted to the minor leagues by the Rockies this week. The 30-year-old third baseman batted .235/.284/.372 with seven homers, 33 RBI and a .656 OPS over 257 plate appearances this season between the Rockies and Athletics. He wasn't worth the salary he would have made in arbitration, but still has some value as a right-handed bat with a solid glove at the hot corner. |

Kevin Kouzmanoff has elected to become a free agent. |
We learned earlier this week that the Rockies were in the process of outrighting Kouzmanoff off the 40-man roster. The 30-year-old third baseman batted .255/.315/.398 with three homers, 16 RBI and a .713 OPS over 108 plate appearances with Colorado. He'll almost certainly have to settle for a minor league deal this winter. |

Wed Sep 28 2011 | 19:04 | Kevin Kouzmanoff goes 3-for-5 |
Kevin Kouzmanoff went 3-for-5 with a pair of doubles and two RBI in Wednesday's victory. |
Thanks to injuries, Kouz got quite a bit more playing time than expected after Jordan Pacheco's arrival. Still, while he had three nice three-hit games over the final seven days of the season, he did nothing at all for the Rockies the rest of the time. He'll likely be either released or non-tendered in December, and he might have to settle for a minor league contract as a free agent. |

Sun Sep 25 2011 | 18:04 | Kouzmanoff smacks two homers in 19-3 win |
Kevin Kouzmanoff went 3-for-5 and belted two homers in Sunday's 19-3 victory against the Astros. |
It tied for the worst loss in Astros franchise history. Kouzmanoff, acquired from the Athletics last month, added three runs scored and five RBI. Chris Iannetta also had five RBI, three coming on an eighth-inning home run. The Rockies racked up 25 hits in all. Mark Ellis, Kouzmanoff and Seth Smith had three apiece and Thomas Field, Jordan Pacheco and Ty Wigginton had four each (Wigginton finished a homer away from the cycle). Even Colorado starter Kevin Millwood had success, bashing his second homer of the season to push his average to .158 and slugging percentage to .474. Unfortunately for Kouzmanoff, his slugging percentage for the season (.362) is more than 100 points lower than the journeyman starter's -- and that's his game's calling card. The Crushin' Russian seems likely to be non-tendered over the winter. |

Thu Sep 22 2011 | 23:52 | Kevin Kouzmanoff hits first Rockies homer |
Kevin Kouzmanoff belted a solo shot, his first homer as a member of the Rockies, in Thursday's loss to the Astros. |
He also added a pair of singles, driving in and scoring a pair of runs. Kouzmanoff has played third base pretty regularly for the Rox since they picked him up in late August, but he's not really hitting much better for them than he did earlier this year for the A's, sporting a .243/.329/.314 batting line. He seems likely to be non-tendered over the winter. |

Kevin Kouzmanoff went 2-for-4 with with four RBI in Sunday's win over the Dodgers. |
Kouzmanoff was acquired from the Athletics earlier this week and was promptly called up to the bigs on Wednesday. He now has four hits and two doubles in the last two days, putting him firmly on the NL-only radar at the thin third base position. Kouzmanoff sizable power has been stunted by spending his career with the Padres and Athletics. |

Wed Aug 24 2011 | 13:12 | Rockies call up Kouzmanoff from Triple-A |
Rockies purchased the contract of 3B Kevin Kouzmanoff from Triple-A Colorado Springs. |
Kouzmanoff, who was acquired from the Athletics on Tuesday, will start at third base and bat sixth against the Astros on Wednesday afternoon. The 30-year-old batted just .221/.262/.353 with four home runs and 17 RBI over his first 149 plate appearances before being demoted to the minors in early-June, but he is probably the best option the Rockies have at third base right now. Give him a shot in NL-only formats. |

He'll start at his usual third base and bat eighth. Kouzmanoff is hitting below the Mendoza Line (.198) through his first 111 at-bats this season, and could lose some playing time at third to the recently acquired Scott Sizemore if he doesn't soon get going. |

Sun Apr 24 2011 | 00:17 | Kouzmanoff homers as Athletics top Mariners |
Kevin Kouzmanoff homered and drove in four runs Saturday as the A's exploded for nine runs in a rout of the Mariners. |
Kouzmanoff had an RBI single in the fourth and then completely broke the game open with a three-run homer off rookie Josh Lueke in the sixth. It's worth noting that both of his homers this year have come off mediocre middle relievers, but at least it's a start. He's now hitting .220 with nine RBI. Maybe he'll even draw his first walk before much longer. |

Fri Apr 22 2011 | 00:33 | Athletics' Kouzmanoff pulled for pinch-hitter |
Kevin Kouzmanoff was yanked for a pinch-hitter after striking out in both of his at-bats Thursday against the Mariners. |
Kouz was also yanked for a pinch-hitter after going 1-for-2 on Wednesday, so the A's are clearly souring on him. Fortunately for him, Andy LaRoche is also slumping of late. Had that not been the case, Kouz probably would have been on the bench tonight. He's hitting .192 with a 11/0 K/BB ratio in 52 at-bats. |
