NEW YORK -- New York Yankees center fielder Jacoby Ellsbury exited Wednesday's game against the Kansas City Royals with a concussion and a sprained neck after crashing into the wall in the top of the first inning.Ellsbury tracked down a fly ball by Alcides Escobar and hit the wall while making the catch. The right side of Ellsbury's face hit the wall as he fell down and stayed down for a minute or two.Yankees trainer Steve Donahue and manager Joe Girardi went to check on him and Ellsbury initially stayed in the game. He was replaced by Aaron Hicks after the bottom of the first.After the game the Yankees announced Ellbury will be placed on the seven-day concussion disabled list.Ellsbury is batting .281 with four home runs and 14 RBIs. On May 1, he crashed into the wall while making a catch on Toronto infielder Ryan Goins and was held out of the starting lineup for three games with a bruised nerve in his left elbow.

BALTIMORE -- Jose Berrios picked up his third straight win with a solid performance and the Minnesota Twins completed a three-game sweep of the Baltimore Orioles with a 4-3 victory in a Wednesday matinee.The Twins improved to 14-5 on the road and are in first place in the American League Central. It was Minnesota's first three-game sweep in Baltimore since 1996, although the Twins swept a four-game series in 2015. Chris Davis and Jonathan Schoop hit solo home runs in the seventh for the Orioles, ending the day for Berrios, who had been dominant up to that point. Kennys Vargas, Eduardo Escobar, Brian Dozier and Byron Buxton each had two hits for the Twins, who stranded nine runners. Outfielder Alex Gordon of the Kansas City Royals was reinstated from the paternity list on Wednesday, the team announced.Gordon's wife, Jamie, gave birth Monday to daughter Joey Lynn, the couple's third child.The Royals also placed right-handed pitcher Nate Karns on the 10-day disabled list because of a right extensor strain/nerve irritation. Karns' stint on the disabled list is retroactive to Sunday, making him eligible to return on May 31.

RHP Tommy Hunter (strained right calf) began a rehab assignment with Class A Charlotte on Tuesday. He gave up two runs on three hits while striking out three in one inning.

RHP Danny Farquhar allowed both inherited runners to score as the bullpen had another letdown Tuesday. He ended up credited with 1 2/3 scoreless innings against the Angels, but he gave up two hits to turn a 2-0 game into a 4-0 loss.

SS Tim Beckham had one of the Rays' three hits and also reached on a walk Tuesday, providing two chances on a night when Tampa Bay had limited production at the plate. He has played surprisingly well in place of the injured Matt Duffy.

DH Corey Dickerson had six home runs in six games coming in but went 0-for-4 with two strikeouts and grounded into a double play Tuesday. He has been phenomenal and went into the game with the AL batting lead but couldn't do much Angels RHP Matt Shoemaker.

RHP Alex Cobb gave up two home runs to open the game Tuesday against the Angels, just the second time that has happened in Rays history. He settled down from there and didn't allow another run to score until the eighth inning, helping an overworked bullpen. His ERA went to 3.82, but Tuesday wasn't a bad outing for Cobb. He yielded four runs in 7 1/3 innings.

RHP Yusmeiro Petit came in with the bases loaded and one out in the seventh and got two huge strikeouts, adding a third in the eighth in a key hold. He lowered his ERA to 2.45 on the season and helped secure a win Tuesday night at Tampa Bay.

RHP Matt Shoemaker pitched 6 1/3 innings of scoreless baseball, holding the Rays to three hits in a 4-0 win Tuesday. The Angels have two of their three shutouts this season in games he has started. He lost his release point late in the game but otherwise had a stellar outing.

LF Cameron Maybin hit a home run for the second night in a row, and he led off a game with a homer for the third in his career. Maybin has sparked the Angels in the first inning two nights in a row, though the home run was his only hit Tuesday, when he finished 1-for-5.

CF Mike Trout tied the Yankees' Aaron Judge for the American League lead with his 15th home run. He now has eight home runs in his last 14 games. Trout also has 183 long balls for his career, passing Troy Glaus for fourth in franchise history.

RHP Carlos Carrasco was pitching on seven days' rest Tuesday after leaving his last start in the fourth inning with left pectoral tightness. After allowing three runs on four hits in the first two innings on Tuesday night in Cincinnati, Carrasco settled down and retired 10 straight in one stretch and 13 of the final 15 batters he faced in a game the Indians eventually won 8-7. He pitched 6 1/3 innings and yielded four runs.

1B Edwin Encarnacion really wanted to play in this week's series against the Reds, his former club, according to manager Terry Francona. After just missing a homer in Monday's series opener when his 428-foot blast sailed foul, Encarnacion reached the left field bleachers with a fair ball on Tuesday for a two-run home run, his eighth of the season. In the fifth, Encarnacion homered on a 3-2 pitch from Amir Garrett, giving him his first multi-homer game this season and the 26th of his career. "He really wanted to play, and I like that," Francona said. "I was really happy to have a guy who wanted to play that bad. I'm glad I didn't rest him."

2B Jason Kipnis is batting .216 for the season, but coming into Tuesday night's game in Cincinnati, he had a .371 batting average in the leadoff spot with two doubles, five homers and 10 RBIs. In his past eight games, Kipnis has hit .405 batting leadoff. "It's been good for Kip," Indians manager Terry Francona said. "It gets the right guy locked in right away. He looks forward to getting that extra at-bat." Kipnis had a rough night in the leadoff spot Tuesday, going 0-for-5 with two strikeouts.

LHP Tony Cingrani (right oblique strain) threw around 30 pitches in a bullpen session Tuesday. He will remain in Cincinnati and throw one more bullpen session to see if he is ready for a couple of rehab starts. Cingrani has been on the disabled list since April 21. He has a 1.93 ERA in five appearances.

RHP Kyle Hendricks (3-2, 3.35 ERA) is scheduled to make his ninth start of the season on Wednesday in the third game of a four-game series with the Giants. He had a National League-lowest 2.13 ERA in 2016, but two rough outings in April left him with a 6.19 ERA and a 1-1 record after three starts. Over his next five starts, Hendricks has allowed a total of seven runs, going 2-1 with a 1.82 ERA.

LHP Zac Rosscup was optioned to Triple-A Iowa on Tuesday. He got two outs on Monday against San Francisco. He is 2-1 with one save and a 3.45 ERA in nine relief outings with Iowa this season.

1B Anthony Rizzo was 1-for-3 with a home run and two RBIs on Tuesday. He has gone 7-for-24 with three home runs and seven RBIs on the seven-game home stand. Rizzo also recorded his 200th and 201st RBI at Wrigley Field.

2B Ben Zobrist went 1-for-4 and extended his on-base streak to 21 consecutive games, the third-longest streak of his career and just two games away from the second longest. He has hit in seven consecutive games, batting .417 in that span.
