2B Robinson Cano hit two home runs, including a grand slam, and matched his career-high with six RBIs in a 9-6 victory against Detroit. Cano has 13 home runs this season. "For me, it's not about how many home runs I hit," Cano said. "I'm just trying to do my job with runners in scoring position."

RHP Felix Hernandez is scheduled to return from the disabled list and start Friday against Houston. Hernandez (2-2, 4.73 ERA) has been on the DL since April 26 with bursitis in his right shoulder. "I don't care who I face, I'm just happy to be back -- finally," said Hernandez, who has won both his starts at Safeco Field this season.

RHP A.J. Cole was optioned to Triple-A Syracuse. He had been recalled from Syracuse on June 18, He is 1-0 with a 1.50 ERA in one start for the Nationals this season.

INF Michael Martinez was sent outright to Triple-A Durham. He was designated for assignment June 19 to make room for INF Trevor Plouffe. Martinez hit just .077 in 13 games after the Rays acquired him from Cleveland.

RHP Masahiro Tanaka will look to snap a seven-start winless streak Friday night when he takes the mound for the Yankees in the opener of a three-game series against the Texas Rangers at Yankee Stadium. Tanaka took the loss in his most recent start Saturday, when he gave up five runs on eight hits and one walk while striking out 10 over four innings as the Yankees fell to the Oakland Athletics 5-2. It was the fifth time in the last seven starts Tanaka allowed at least five runs. He is 0-6 with an 8.91 ERA in that span, a stretch in which his overall ERA has risen from 4.36 to 6.34. Tanaka is 0-1 with a 7.50 ERA in two career starts against the Rangers.

RHP Alex Meyer will look to build off his best start as a big leaguer when he takes the mound for the Angels on Friday night in the opener of a three-game series against the Boston Red Sox at Fenway Park. Meyer earned the win Saturday, when he allowed two hits and one walk while striking out nine over six shutout innings as the Angels beat the Kansas City Royals 9-0. It was the first time in 15 career starts Meyer has thrown six scoreless innings. Meyer is 1-1 with a 1.19 ERA in four starts this month, a stretch in which he's struck out 27 in 22 2/3 innings and lowered his overall ERA from 5.79 to 3.52. He has never faced the Red Sox.

RHP Huston Street was activated from the 60-day disabled list Thursday. Street has been out all season because of a lat injury, which he suffered during a Cactus League appearance March 3, as well as a right shoulder impingement that he suffered shortly after resuming a throwing program. Street had an 8.44 ERA in seven rehab appearances between Class-A Inland Empire and Triple-A Salt Lake City and is coming off the worst season of his career (3-2 with nine saves and a 6.45 ERA), but could quickly vie for a late-inning role on the Angels. Los Angeles has received saves from four different pitchers this season and have lost their current closer, RHP Bud Norris, to a knee injury.

RHP Nick Vincent (2-1, 1.80 ERA) has held opponents scoreless in 26 of his past 27 relief appearances. He has thrown 12 1/3 scoreless innings over his past 14 games.

LHP Jason Wheeler was sent outright to Triple-A Oklahoma City. He had been designated for assignment on June 18. He was acquired in a trade with the Minnesota Twins for cash on June 3. He did not pitch for the Dodgers.

RHP Kyle Kendrick was sent outright to Triple-A Pawtucket. He was 0-2 with a 12.96 ERA in two starts with the Red Sox this season.

RHP Charlie Morton was sent on a rehab assignment to Triple-A Fresno. He has been on the disabled list since May 28.

INF Jace Peterson was recalled from Triple-A Gwinnett. He hit .338 (22-for-65) in 17 games with the G-Braves. Peterson played in 41 games with Atlanta before being sent down and hit .194 with five doubles and nine RBIs. Peterson provides more versatility; he can play second base, third base and the outfield.

3B Rio Ruiz was sent to Triple-A Gwinnett. The rookie played 30 games and hit .175 with two homers and nine RBIs. He was in an 0-for-13 slump when he was returned to the G-Braves. Manager Brian Snitker said the organization would rather have Ruiz play every day in the minors than ride the bench in Atlanta.

1B Matt Adams hit his 13th homer on Thursday. It was his 12th since being acquired by Atlanta on April 21. His 12 home runs are tied for the most through a player's first 31 games in franchise history, matching the mark set by Justin Upton in 2013.

LF Matt Kemp left the game on Thursday after reaching on a single in the fifth inning. Kemp experienced some tightness in his left hamstring. Kemp was 1-for-3 and wound up 3-for-14 for the series with the Giants.

RF Nick Markakis hit a two-run homer in his first at-bat Thursday. It was his third homer of the season and first since June 12 against Washington's Stephen Strasburg. Markakis was 4-for-5 and scored two runs. It was his 16th multi-hit game and his first four-game of the season.

RHP Matt Shoemaker (right forearm) is headed back to California for further testing. An earlier MRI revealed no ligament damage for Shoemaker, who was placed on the 10-day disabled list Saturday retroactive to June 15, but Angels general manager Billy Eppier said Thursday that Shoemaker is still feeling symptoms of the ailment after throwing from 120 feet Wednesday. The Angels and Shoemaker originally hoped he could return from the disabled list and start this Sunday against the Boston Red Sox, but there is no longer a timetable for his return. Shoemaker is 6-3 with a 4.52 ERA in 14 starts this season.

OF Brandon Guyer (sprained left wrist ) returned to Cleveland for treatment after he was hit on the ankle by a pitch in a rehab appearance for Triple-A Columbus on Tuesday. The X-rays did not show any damage. "He got smoked in the ankle, but he's OK," manager Terry Francona said. "He's a tough kid." Guyer will continue his rehab assignment Friday and will play nine innings in right field, Francona said. Guyer has appeared in 21 games for the Indians, batting .182 with a homer and five RBIs.

C Welington Castillo was back in the lineup Thursday after being given the previous day off because of a sore shoulder. Castillo has been one of the Orioles' most productive hitters. He went 2-for-4.

LHP Wade Miley labored through another start, allowing four runs, eight hits and two walks with three strikeouts in just five-plus innings and 111 pitches. Miley has given up 19 earned runs in his past four starts (15 2/3 innings). "We're going out there and working our tails off trying to work on track, and I think we're moving in the right direction," Miley said.
