RF Yasmany Tomas had four hits and RBIs, one short of a career high, and his sixth-inning grand slam gave the Diamondbacks the lead for good Monday. "That ball jumped out of here, but he had good at-bats all night," Arizona manager Chip Hale said. Tomas had 19 homers as a rookie last season after signing a six-year, $68.5 million free agent contract. "Was he going to be a big home run guy?" Hale said. "We thought he was going to be more gap-to-gap. He has it in him. I didn't think it would come this quickly."

Then-Colorado SS Troy Tulowitzki was the last major-leaguer to hit 10 homers at home in a month when he did it in Coors Field in 2010, according to STATS LLC. Tomas missed two starts due to mid-back stiffness before returning to action Saturday. He bumped into manager Chip Hale before the Sunday game and said he good to go, but Michael Bourn started in right field. Tomas has 14 homers since July 24, the most in the majors.

RF Yasmany Tomas was 0-for-4 walk with a walk in his return to the starting lineup after missing two starts with mid-back stiffness but made his mark on defense. He made a running catch in right-center field with runners on second and third and one out in the 10th inning. While the first runner scored for a 3-2 lead, Tomas threw the second runner out at third base to end the inning. "Tomas probably made the play of the game to keep it at one run," Arizona manager Chip Hale said. Since July 24, Tomas leads the majors with a .765 slugging percentage and is tied for the major league lead with 13 homers. He has nine homers in August at Chase Field, the franchise record for a month at home. Toronto SS Troy Tulowitzki was the last player to hit 10 homers in a month at home when he did it for Colorado in September 2010.

RF Yasmany Tomas tied a franchise record with homers in four consecutive home games when he hit a two-out, two-run homer in the third inning Monday. He joined Jay Bell, Troy Glaus and Mark Reynolds in that category. Tomas has 13 homers in his past 22 starts, and nine of his past 16 hits are homers. He also drew a walk by staying away from a 3-2 breaking ball with two outs and two on in the seventh inning, setting up C Welington Castillo's go-ahead, three-run double. "I think that was as impressive as his home run," Arizona manager Chip Hale said. "When you can draw a walk when a guy is pitching you tough ... he didn't give in as a hitter and swing at a pitcher's pitch. That kept the line moving. He's really matured."

OF Yasmany Tomas (stiff neck) missed his third straight game Thursday, when the Diamondbacks routed the Mets 9-0. Manager Chip Hale said the Diamondbacks were not yet overly concerned about Tomas but that he would likely undergo testing if he is still not healthy when the club returns home Monday. Tomas is hitting .272 with 21 homers and 48 RBIs in 96 games this season.
