OF Aaron Judge, who has struggled since the All-Star break, was given a night off Thursday. At the All-Star break, Judge was hitting .329 with a 1.139 OPS. Since the break Judge is hitting .164 with a .657 OPS.

RF Aaron Judge went to the dentist Friday morning after getting a front upper left tooth chipped by a batting helmet in the celebration at the plate following OF Brett Gardner's game-winning homer in the 11th inning Thursday. "I tried to rush off the field without anybody noticing it," Judge said. "There was a lot of cameras around." Judge said security was unable to find the tooth and he received a lot of ribbing from teammates once the clip hit social media. Said manager Joe Girardi: "Obviously we're very relieved. I'm sure it was somewhat of an uncomfortable night for him last night but the story I got is he basically picked up the helmet to protect his teammates and the helmet got knocked off into his tooth and he lost, I think it was his front tooth. But it has been repaired temporarily and he's back in the lineup." After joking about his dental work, Judge hit his 33rd homer in Friday's 6-1 win and extended his home hitting streak to 17 games.

Unlike the previous night, when Judge nearly hit a ball out of Safeco Field, Major League Baseball's Statcast was able to track this one. The solo shot to right field went 396 feet, with a launch angle of 28 degrees and an exit velocity of 108 mph. Judge had another chance in the 10th, but was caught looking at a called third strike on a 3-2 fastball from'Seattle's Tony Zych. "Everyone knows what he can do," Zych said of Judge's power. "In that situation you just go right after him. I bounced a couple of breaking balls and threw three sliders in a row, so I had to go back to (a fastball). It ran back in for a black out (on the edge of the plate)."

RF Aaron Judge nearly hit a ball out of Safeco Field on Friday night. Judge's three-run homer in the fifth inning landed in the third-to-last row in the second deck in left field. "We were wondering it was going to get out of the stadium," Yankees manager Joe Girardi said. "That's the farthest ball I've seen hit here in a game or BP. It was just, 'Wow.' We've seen him hit a couple like that before." The ball traveled an estimated 450 feet, although Girardi and the rest of the Yankees weren't buying that number. His 28 homers are one shy of Hall of Famer Joe DiMaggio's rookie record set in 1936. RF Aaron Judge announced officially Monday he was taking part in next week's Home Run Derby in Miami. Judge held off on announcing his decision to focus on games but made the declaration in a Twitter video where he also announced C Gary Sanchez was joining him in the contest. "I'm excited," he said during a press conference Monday. "We've got a good group of guys going. Getting a chance to go up against Gary is going to be fun, so I think we're both looking forward to that."
