Coghlan began feeling through discomfort in his right side since last Monday and was out of the starting lineup for four straight games before returning Saturday, when he was pulled due to the pain after three innings. This is the fourth career trip to the DL for Coghlan and his first since 2013. Coghlan is batting .155 with five homers and 14 RBIs in 70 games this season between the Cubs and Athletics, who traded him to Chicago on June 9.

"Yeah, it's disappointing. We come home with some momentum and get swept like this against a team that was really struggling with the bat."It's not from lack of trying. Coghlan went 3-for-4 with a double and run scored in Saturday's 1-0 win over the Brewers.

Coghlan's multi-hit performance ends a woeful 2-for-28 skid. The versatile Coghlan has been an asset for the Cubs, making starts at five different positions while belting a career-high 16 home runs. Despite receiving 437 at-bats, Coghlan hasn't started a game against a left-handed pitcher in 2015.

Coghlan is out of the lineup for Saturday's game against the Pirates.

While Coghlan has seen the heart of the Cubs' batting order regularly, he still hasn't started against a left-handed starter in 2015. Jorge Soler will take over his old right field spot with Pirates southpaw Francisco Liriano on the mound.

Coghlan is out of the lineup for Saturday's game against the Cardinals.

Joe Maddon is opting to sit most of his left-handed and switch hitting players against Cardinals starter Michael Wacha, a right-handed pitcher with great splits against lefties. In Coghlan's stead, Jorge Soler will make his return to the lineup.

Coghlan is not in the lineup for Game 2 of Tuesday's doubleheader with the Pirates.

Lefty J.A. Happ is due up for Pittsburgh in Game 2, so it's no surprise to see Coghlan on the bench. Coghlan has gone 4-for-42 against southpaws this season and is just a .230/.309/.316 career hitter against left-handed pitching.

Coghlan tripled twice and homered as a part of a four-hit effort Sunday against the Phillies.

Coghlan turned in a huge series, producing five extra-base hits and driving in four runs while starting three games. He should continue to see the larger portion of the platoon duties with Austin Jackson in right field until Jorge Soler (oblique) finishes his rehab assignment.

Coghlan went 2-for-5 with a double, an RBI and a run scored in a 7-3 win over the Phillies on Friday.

Coghlan continues to hit in the three-hole against right-handers and he's starting to become mixed-league relevant. Against righties this season, Coghlan has 15 home runs, 20 doubles, 37 RBI and 11 steals. Keep an eye on an upcoming schedule and if the Cubs get a week full of righties, Coghlan is worth a shot in almost any format.

Coghlan is out of Saturday's lineup against the Diamondbacks.

He figures to see semi-regular starts at left field with Kyle Schwarber out, but will take a seat with Arizona southpaw Robbie Ray on the mound. Kris Bryant will move over to start at left field, while Javier Baez gets the first third base start of the season.

Coghlan is out of the lineup Sunday against the Dodgers, Carrie Muskat of MLB.com reports.

Coghlan will sit for the third time in four days Sunday, likely due to the continued presence of southpaws on the mound. Alex Wood will start against the Cubs on Sunday, resulting in Chris Denorfia's presence in the lineup once again.
