Wed Aug 18 202113:14Kyle Gibson Posts Quality Start Versus Diamondbacks On Tuesday
Philadelphia Phillies starting pitcher Kyle Gibson allowed three runs on seven hits to take the loss versus the Diamondbacks on Tuesday. Gibson started out hot with the Phillies but has now lost back-to-back starts versus NL West opponents. On the season, he's got a solid 3.18 ERA, his 4.31 xFIP and 4.60 SIERA, however, implies he's been a bit lucky in the ERA department. Gibson is a start-worthy pitcher in fantasy when he has a good matchup, but it would be risky to roll him out versus a good Padres lineup on Sunday.

Thu Aug 12 202110:14Kyle Gibson Takes Loss Versus Dodgers On Wednesday
Philadelphia Phillies starting pitcher Kyle Gibson allowed three runs in 4 1/3 innings to take the loss in his "start" versus the Dodgers on Wednesday. It was a weird evening in Philly; Gibson was scratched before the game due to rain in the forecast for the early innings. Philadelphia used two relievers before the rain came, then Gibson warmed up during the 53-minute delay and proceeded as the starting pitcher, only in the third inning. Perhaps the timing affected Gibson, perhaps a good Dodger lineup just got the better of him, but Gibson wasn't as sharp as he was in his first two games for the Phillies. He induced just 10 swinging strikes on 100 pitches and allowed six hits and three walks before exiting and taking the L. He remains a solid fantasy option and should be started next time out in Arizona.

Wed Aug 11 202120:03Kyle Gibson Scratched From Start, Possibly Due To Weather
Philadelphia Phillies starting pitcher Kyle Gibson was scratched from his scheduled start on Wednesday night, according to Bill Plunkett of the Orange County Register. There is no word of any injury issue, but Plunkett writes that this scratch could be to prevent Gibson from being used in a rain-shortened start, as there is rain in the forecast throughout the area surrounding the ballpark. Connor Brogdon will start in his place as he makes his first appearance since being activated from the injured list earlier in the day. Managers should keep an eye out for further updates on Gibson, but it's possible that he could be back on the mound on Thursday.

Sat Aug 7 202110:34Kyle Gibson Earns Win Over Mets On Friday
Philadelphia Phillies starting pitcher Kyle Gibson allowed one run across six innings to earn the win Friday against the Mets. Gibson was in trouble all night as he allowed four hits and four walks, but he was able to keep New York off the scoreboard and earn his second win in as many starts with his new club. The veteran righty has been a solid addition to the Phillies, but he has less value in fantasy as his strikeout rate has been under 20% in two straight years and his 4.54 SIERA and 4.22 xFIP imply he's been a tad lucky to have just a 2.79 ERA. He's a solid fantasy play when he has a good matchup, but he should be left on the bench for a start with the Dodgers next week.

Sun Aug 1 202116:55Kyle Gibson Earns Win In Phillies Debut
Philadelphia Phillies starting pitcher Kyle Gibson allowed two runs across 6 2/3 innings to earn the win Sunday in Pittsburgh. Gibson allowed five hits and two walks while striking out five in his first game since being traded to Philadelphia from Texas. The veteran hurler earned 14 swinging strikes on 113 pitches which bodes well for his ability to pitch deep into games and earn wins for fantasy managers as a member of the Phillies. Gibson has had a nice bounce-back season thus far as his ERA is down to 2.86 after this start. He'll make his home debut on Friday against a tough Mets lineup.

Fri Jul 30 202119:35Phillies acquire Gibson, Kennedy in trade with Rangers
The Philadelphia Phillies acquired pitchers Kyle Gibson and Ian Kennedy, bolstering their staff in a deadline trade Friday in which they got the Texas Rangers' top starter and closer in exchange for rookie right-hander Spencer Howard and two other pitching prospects. Texas also sent pitching prospect Hans Crouse, a second-round draft pick four years ago, and cash to the Phillies. Howard (0-2, 5.72 ERA), who was Philadelphia’s second-round pick in 2017, is going to Texas with right-handers Kevin Gowdy and Josh Gessner. Gibson (6-3, 2.87 ERA in 19 starts) was a first-time All-Star this season, but the 33-year-old right-hander lost his last three starts for Texas. Kennedy had 16 saves in 17 opportunities for the last-place Rangers, and the 36-year-old right-hander hasn’t issued a walk in his last 11 appearances, a span of 45 batters dating to June 4. “We feel like we made ourselves better and we’re in position where we have another starting pitcher in our rotation for next year. We’ve also... [More]
Fri Jul 30 202117:45Freddy Galvis returns to Phillies in deal with Orioles
PITTSBURGH (AP) — Freddy Galvis is back with the Philadelphia Phillies, returning to the franchise where he started his career in a trade with the Baltimore Orioles on Friday. The Orioles acquired minor league right-hander Tyler Burch from the Phillies for Galvis and cash. The 31-year-old Galvis has been Baltimore's starting shortstop for most of the season. He's batting .249 with nine homers and 26 RBIs in 72 games and is currently on the 10-day injured list with a right quadriceps strain. Galvis is a career .247 hitter in 10 major league seasons, the first six with Philadelphia. The Phillies also acquired pitchers Kyle Gibson and Ian Kennedy from the Texas Rangers on Friday. Philadelphia entered Friday 3 1/2 games behind the first-place New York Mets in the AL East. The 23-year-old Burch is a combined 4-3 with a 3.99 ERA in 23 appearances this season for Low-A Clearwater and High-A Jersey Shore. ___ More AP MLB: https://apnews.com/hub/mlb and https://twitter.com/AP_Sports

Fri Jul 30 202115:08Kyle Gibson, Ian Kennedy Traded To Phillies
The Texas Rangers have a deal in place to trade starting pitcher Kyle Gibson and relief pitcher Ian Kennedy to the Philadelphia Phillies, according to Jon Morosi of MLB Network. This provides a big boost to the Phillies pitching staff, as Gibson has been having a great season so far while Kennedy has been a solid closer for Texas. Over 19 starts, Gibson is 6-3 with a 2.87 ERA and 1.177 WHIP, while Kennedy has 16 saves, a 2.51 ERA and 1.052 WHIP over 32 appearances. With Kennedy on the move, Spencer Patton figures to be next in line for the closer's job in Texas, and managers should make sure to scoop him up off the waiver wire.

Fri Jul 30 202113:10Phillies Making Strong Push For Kyle Gibson
The Philadelphia Phillies are making a strong push for Texas Rangers starting pitcher Kyle Gibson, according to Mark Feinsand of MLB Network. Gibson has had a rough go of things over his last three starts, but overall this year he has put up very good numbers by going 6-3 with a 2.87 ERA, 1.177 WHIP and 20.4 percent strikeout rate over 113 innings of work. With a move to the NL East, we could see Gibson get a nice boost in value if this trade goes through. Managers should continue to monitor the situation over the next few hours heading into the deadline.

Mon Jul 26 202120:13Rangers 105 complete innings without leading in 12-game skid
The Texas Rangers are not only losing games. During their 12-game losing streak, the Rangers have completed 105 consecutive innings without even being in the lead. “It’s the toughest situation I’ve ever been a part of, and I know a lot of these guys can honestly say the same thing,” Texas manager Chris Woodward said. The 105-inning stretch is the longest in franchise history the Rangers have gone without starting a new inning ahead on the scoreboard. It is the longest such streak in the majors in more than a half-century. While losing all 10 games in their three-city trip coming out of the All-Star break, the Rangers trailed at the end of 76 of 86 innings played and they were tied the other 10. Texas had also lost at home in its last two games before the break. Texas (35-65) is 30 games below .500 in the first 100 games of a season for only the third time in franchise history. The Rangers are back home Tuesday night to start a two-game interleague series against Arizona. The Diamondbacks,... [More]
Sun Jul 25 202102:43Sandoval loses no-hitter in 9th, Angels beat Twins 2-1
MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Patrick Sandoval had his no-hit bid broken up with one out in the ninth inning on a soft double by rookie Brent Rooker and the Los Angeles Angels beat the Minnesota Twins 2-1 on Saturday night. Sandoval, a 24-year-old lefty who began the game with a 3-13 career record, struck out a career-high 13. There have already been seven no-hitters in the majors this season. The big league record of eight was set in 1884, the first year overhand pitching was permitted. The Twins hadn’t come close to a hit until Rooker, who fanned his first three times up, flared an opposite-field fly that fell just inside the line in right. Sandoval (3-4) smiled after the ball fell, retired the next batter and then was pulled after 108 pitches. He walked one and hit two. Closer Raisel Iglesias allowed an RBI double to Josh Donaldson before getting his 21st save in 25 chances. José Berríos (7-5) allowed two unearned runs in seven innings in perhaps his final start for Minnesota. ASTROS 4, RANGERS... [More]
