"They were the organization that believed in me when everybody else passed," Martinez said. "They were the ones who gave me the opportunity when everybody else didn't. I had a feeling this was coming, this was on the horizon. I wish it could have been different. I wish we would have come out and been hot and been in first place right now. And all of a sudden we're in the playoff hunt here."

RF J.D. Martinez had a high quality, though painful, at-bat during the seventh inning on Thursday. Martinez fouled off pitch after pitch after the count reached 3-2 before he rapped an RBI single to left to complete the 15-pitch at-bat. He fouled a ball off his foot earlier in the at-bat and was removed for pinch-runner Matt den Dekker after the single. Manager Brad Ausmus said Martinez, who began the season on the DL with a foot sprain, came out for precautionary reasons.

RF J.D. Martinez moved up from fifth to fourth in the batting order Friday night and will probably reside in that spot while DH Victor Martinez is on the disabled list. RF J.D. Martinez fell a single shy of the cycle Friday night, collecting a double, home run and triple through the first six innings. Martinez batted in the seventh but flied out to right. "I mean, quite frankly, I would've taken him out of the game earlier," manager Brad Ausmus said, "but he had the opportunity to get a cycle, and I didn't want to leave that dangling out there. So, we let him go as long as we could. I'd rather get him off his feet every once in awhile to rest him, but you don't get many opportunities at a cycle."
