Webster struck out two and walked three while giving up two runs on two hits over 5.2 innings in a winning effort against the Giants on Saturday.
Considering the recent production of the Giants' offense, it was an impressive season debut for Webster. The D-backs will continue to use him in their rotation after demoting Josh Collmenter to the bullpen, but Webster's lack of consistency during previous stints in the big leagues makes him better suited for careful streaming at the present time. Webster will face the Angels at home Thursday in his next scheduled start.

Webster will be called up and start for the Diamondbacks on Saturday, Zach Buchanan of The Arizona Republic reports.
Webster will be taking the rotation spot of the home run-plagued Josh Collmenter. Though Webster's results have not been close to ideal in Triple-A with a 9.00 ERA, there's still no way to be sure he hasn't been feeling shoulder fatigue. The move from Reno to Arizona might actually beneficial to his numbers. He's still an incredibly risky start though, as his major league numbers have been pretty bad (5.03 ERA, 4.35 FIP, 1.458 WHIP).

Webster (shoulder) made his third appearance Saturday since returning from the DL, allowing six runs over five innings on nine hits and three walks, striking out four.
Webster's first two starts since returning were much better, however. He had allowed just two runs over 11 innings, with a 15:4 K:BB. For the season his line is still pretty ugly, with a 9.00 ERA and 24:12 K:BB, though he's allowed just one homer over 23 innings. Given that he was dealing with shoulder fatigue and toils for Reno, an extremely hitter friendly ballpark, his numbers should be taken with a grain of salt.

Webster was placed on Triple-A Reno's 7-day disabled list Monday due to shoulder fatigue, Nick Piecoro of the Arizona Republic reports.
Webster is expected to be shut down for at least a couple of starts, further delaying any opportunity to earn his way to the Diamondbacks' rotation. Likely as a result of the shoulder soreness, Webster was lit up in his first two starts with Reno, surrendering 15 runs on 17 hits and five walks over seven innings. The organization will hope that some extended time off will resolve the issue.
Mon Mar 30 201515:09Webster optioned to Triple-A Reno on Monday
Webster was optioned to Triple-A Reno on Monday, Nick Piecoro of the Arizona Republic reports.
Webster struggled his way through his final spring training outing last Thursday, allowing two earned runs in 1.2 innings. He finished spring training with a 8.18 ERA and 2.09 WHIP with just six strikeouts in 11 innings, and will now begin the season at Triple-A. He remains one of top candidates for a rotation spot, however, if one of the current members were to go down with an injury.

Webster, who was ejected from his start Monday after beaning Justin Turner, remains in the mix for one of the final spots in the Arizona rotation to begin the season.
Josh Collmenter, Jeremy Hellickson, and Rubby De La Rosa have been confirmed as members of the rotation, while Chase Anderson is believed to be a part of the group as well. If Anderson's role is confirmed (he's likely the No. 3 starter), Webster, Trevor Cahill, Daniel Hudson, and Robbie Ray appear to be the final candidates for the fifth starter role. Prior to his ejection Monday, Webster allowed two runs on three hits while recording just three outs, lifting his spring ERA to 7.71 over a meager 9.1-innings sample size. Still, he's allowed eight runs on 16 hits -- including two homers, while carrying a mere 6:3 K:BB thus far. Given his performance, and perhaps more importantly, the team's financial investment in Cahill, Webster may be forced to open the season at Triple-A. A decision will likely come down in the final days of spring training.

Webster is not a lock for the Diamondbacks' rotation to begin the season, but he may have a leg up on the open competition for one of the final three spots behind Josh Collmenter and Jeremy Hellickson.
With increased depth, the Diamondbacks should have plenty of competition for rotation spots throughout the season. Webster pitched well in September for the Red Sox to close out 2014, and he'll need to sustain the improved control he showed down the stretch order to keep a starting gig regardless of when that opportunity is afforded him by his new club.
Fri Dec 12 201423:54Webster penciled into Diamondbacks' rotation for 2015
Webster has been penciled into the Diamondbacks' rotation for 2015, Fox Sports Arizona's Jack Magruder reports.
General manager Dave Stewart named Webster, along with Josh Collmenter, Jeremy Hellickson and Ruby De La Rosa as four pitchers that would be assured a spot in the rotation as things currently stand. This is a major boost for Webster's offseason value, as his role for 2015 with Arizona was not this clear after he was traded to from Boston earlier in the week. He posted a 5.03 ERA (4.35 FIP) in 11 starts for the Red Sox last season, but he won't turn 25 until February and still projects as a solid No. 4 starter if everything comes together.

Webster was traded to the Diamondbacks on Wednesday along with Rubby De La Rosa and a minor league prospect in exchange for Wade Miley, FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal reports.
Webster's overall numbers from last season aren't appealing at first glance, but he gave up just seven runs in 24 innings over four September starts, and was one of the Red Sox's better prospects. He will likely get a chance to compete for a spot in the Diamondbacks' rotation during spring training.

Webster worked a solid 5.2 innings versus the Orioles on Friday night, allowing just one earned run on seven hits and a walk while picking up three strikeouts.
Webster has found a nice rhythm here is the last month of the regular season, as he has steadily gotten better with each outing. Through three starts so far in September, the young righty has put together a nice 3.18 ERA, 1.24 WHIP and 10:4 K:BB ratio across 17 frames.

Webster turned in a quality start, allowing two runs on four hits, walking one and striking out two over six innings of a 4-2 victory over Kansas City on Friday night.
Webster (4-3, 6.02 ERA) has had his rough stretches, usually when he loses his release point, but he threw 55 of 83 pitches for strikes in this one and it resulted in a win. Webster has just an average fastball, but his off-speed pitches show some promise when he spots them. He'll take on a dangerous Orioles squad at Camden Yards in his next start.

Webster allowed four runs (three earned) on six hits, walking two and striking out five over 5.1 innings, coming away with a no-decision in Boston's 9-8 victory in extra-innings against Toronto on Friday night.
It was a mix of good and bad for Webster who struggled in the first inning, allowing a pair of runs, but then was crisp until the sixth when he began to leave pitches up in the zone and allowed a two-run laser shot to Jose Bautista. His bread and butter is a very good change-up, and when he locates that pitch he can be successful. Right now, he is endeavoring to spot that pitch more consistently. He'll take on the Royals in Kansas City in his next outing.

Webster allowed six runs on five hits, three walks and two hit batsmen while striking out three in Saturday's loss to the Rays. In his last two outings, Webster has allowed 12 runs on 13 hits and five walks in 8.1 innings.
Another big inning did in Webster, who had three consecutive quality starts prior to his last two erratic ones. He's had a recurring problem of losing control, but in those quality starts Webster was able to find his command and limit those lapses of control to brief snippets. That didn't happen Saturday or the previous start. Webster's exhibiting a trend early in his pro career; he's unable to consistently get major league hitters out.

Webster took the loss Sunday after allowing six runs on eight hits and two walks over 4.1 innings.
Webster also struck out five on the day, but failed to make it through the fifth inning. Webster was getting people to swing and miss, recording 14 swinging strikes on the day, but when the Mariners hit the ball, more often then not it dropped safely (8 of 15 times). His next scheduled start will come against the Rays on Saturday.

Webster gave up three earned runs on seven hits while walking two and fanning three over six innings of a no-decision against the Angels on Tuesday.
Aside from a third-inning RBI-triple to Mike Trout, Webster held his own against the potent Angels offense, tossing 19-of-26 first-pitch strikes and keeping the ball in the ballpark. The sophomore retains his 3-1 record and now owns a 4.73 ERA with a 1.46 WHIP and horrendous 18:13 BB:K ratio in five starts (26.2 innings) this season with the BoSox.
Fri Aug 15 201407:11Webster able to survive rocky start Thursday night
Webster was able to survive a rocky start Thursday night, an indication the pitcher is making the in-game adjustments on which Red Sox coaches have been working with him, WEEI.com reports. "I think we're seeing some small gains here," manager John Farrell said. "When you compare to two starts ago where things might have gotten away from him a bit, I think more than anything, he'll wake up tomorrow knowing there's another win next to his name, and hopefully that's added confidence along the way."
Webster walked two batters early and threw 15 of his first 24 pitches out of zone, but just 14 in his final four innings. Two starts ago, Webster got on bad roll, walking six and getting pulled after 2.2 innings.

Webster gave up four runs -- three earned -- and five hits over six innings to earn the win against Houston on Thursday.
Webster actually trailed 4-0 early, but Boston rallied for seven runs in the sixth inning. He was roughed up in his first start of the month on August 2, but has been solid in his last two outings. He'll remain in the rotation for the foreseeable future, and his next scheduled start will be at home against the Angels.

Webster (2-1) picked up the win on Friday against the Angels as he gave up two runs on four hits, while allowing two walks and striking out six hitters in 6.2 innings pitched.
It was a better-than-expected night for the young fireball pitcher as Webster only threw 84 pitches on the night before being pulled in the seventh inning. Webster got hitters to chase his pitch for most of the night, while lowering his ERA to 4.91 on the season. He next takes the mound on Thursday against the Astros.

Webster will remain in the starting rotation and is scheduled to start Friday against the Angels, the Providence Journal reports.
Manager John Farrell didn't view Webster's previous outing -- six walks in 2.2 innings -- as a disaster. He saw Webster getting his body ahead of his arm, a mechanical flaw the manager thinks can be fixed.
