UT Shawn O'Malley was recalled from Triple-A Tacoma on Sunday. O'Malley hit .262 in 24 games with the Mariners last season. He was in the starting lineup and playing center field on Sunday.

O'Malley went 2-for-2 with a solo home run, a double, two walks, and two runs scored in a win over the A's on Saturday.

This is only O'Malley's second game, but he's making quite the impact. In his two games, he is 5-for-6 with a homer, a double, two walks, three runs scored, three RBI, and a stolen base. With the Mariners out of contention, O'Malley will continue to garner at-bats, especially if he continues to contribute like this.

O'Malley had a big game in his season debut Wednesday, going 3-for-4 with a walk, a steal, two RBI and a run against the Astros.

At 27 years old, O'Malley's not exactly a prospect, but it looks like he's going to see some playing time against lefties, which gives him some AL-only value after he hit .297/.345/.413 with five homers and 20 steals for Triple-A Tacoma this year.

O'Malley will start in center field and bat ninth Wednesday against the Astros, Greg Johns of MLB.com reports.

With lefty Scott Kazmir due up for Houston, Brad Miller will take a seat as O'Malley slots in for his third career start at the major league level. O'Malley turned in a strong season with Triple-A Tacoma, swiping 20 bases in 89 games while batting .337/.395/.452 against left-handed pitching.

The Mariners called up O'Malley from Triple-A Tacoma on Tuesday.

O'Malley will help the Mariners' shortstop depth, particularly with Brad Miller expected to spend most of his time in the outfield the rest of the way. O'Malley had a quality season with Tacoma, hitting .297 and stealing 20 bases over 89 games.

O'Malley, who was considered for a promotion to Seattle in early July only to miss a month with a wrist injury, has just eight hits in 13 games since his return.

If O'Malley is called up in September, it will be as a utility man. He is a career minor leaguer with 16 major-league at-bats. O'Malley, though, is batting .371 against lefties, so perhaps there's a platoon spot he could fill.

O'Malley was considered for a callup to backup Brad Miller at shortstop, but he injured his wrist earlier this week, the Seattle Times reports.

A career minor-leaguer with 16 major-league at-bats, O'Malley, 27, is a more likely bench player than Chris Taylor, who was called up to back up Miller. If the Mariners decide they'd rather Taylor play everyday, O'Malley, when healthy, could take his place.

O'Malley signed a minor league contract with the Mariners that includes an invite to spring training.

O'Malley continuously hit the wall at Double-A during his time in the Rays' organization, but finally found success at the Triple-A level with the Angels' Salt Lake affiliate in 2014, slashing .330/.411/.475 with three homers and 38 RBI in 89 games. His performance earned him a September callup to the big club, with whom he went 3-for-16 (all singles) in 11 games. The 26-year-old will get to make his case for a spot on the M's roster in spring training, but a utility role is likely a best-case scenario for O'Malley.

O'Malley was released by the Angels on Friday, Jeff Fletcher of the Orange County Register reports.

O'Malley pitched in 11 games for the Angels in 2014, receiving just 16 at-bats and collecting three hits. He will become a free agent if he goes unclaimed through waivers.

O'Malley's contract was purchased from Triple-A Salt Lake on Monday, MLB.com's Matthew DeFranks reports. He was then immediately optioned back to Triple-A, but will join the Angels on Tuesday.

O'Malley will remain with Salt Lake for Monday's season finale, before he's eligible to meet the Angels in Houston. He'll provide some infield depth for the team in September, but will struggle to see at-bats behind Howie Kendrick, Erick Aybar and Gordon Beckham.
