NEW YORK (AP) — Washington catcher Raudy Read has been suspended for the first 80 games of the season following a positive test for Boldenone under Major League Baseball's drug-testing program.The commissioner's office announced the discipline Wednesday, after it was upheld by arbitrator Mark Irvings.Read signed with the Nationals in 2011 and made his big league debut last September, going 3 for 11 (.273) in eight games. He said he was tested seven times last year."I have never in my life knowingly used a banned substance," he said in a statement released by the players' association. "I don't take supplements or anything else on top of my regular diet, which consists simply of chicken, beef, rice and vegetables. So when I heard I tested positive during a routine drug test this winter, I was shocked. Turley signed a minor league contract with the Giants, Matt Eddy of Baseball America reports.
Turley turned in a winning record (5-3) with the Yankees' Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre affiliate last season, but struck out just one more batter than he walked in 60.1 innings (44:43 K:BB). While the lefty is still just 25, there's little hope that he'll develop into a major league regular.

Yankees re-signed LHP Nik Turley to a minor league contract.
The Yankees cut Turley from their 40-man roster at the end of April but will keep him in the organization. The 24-year-old southpaw owns a decent 3.28 ERA and 8.5 K/9 in 486 1/3 career minor league innings.

The 24-year-old southpaw spent the 2013 season between Double-A Trenton and Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre where he compiled a 3.79 ERA, 1.36 WHIP and 141/76 K/BB ratio over 145 innings. He could attract interest elsewhere on a minor league pact.
