LHP Grant Dayton, out since July 28 because of neck stiffness, had an inconclusive result of a shoulder scan this weekend and will seek a second opinion, manager Dave Roberts said. Dayton felt shoulder discomfort while throwing Friday and was flown back to Los Angeles for tests.

Dayton was traded to the Dodgers on Wednesday.
Dayton was part of a minor deal that sent Chris Reed back to the Marlins. The 27-year-old lost his spot on the 40-man roster in April, but posting a 2.83 ERA and 0.86 WHIP with 35 strikeouts over 35 innings could keep him in the conversation should injuries occur in the Dodgers' bullpen. For now, he'll serve as organizational depth.

Dayton was outrighted to Triple-A New Orleans on Sunday.
Dayton was dropped from the Marlins' 40-man roster a couple days earlier after the team needed to open up a spot for catcher Jhonatan Solano. The 27-year-old righty has a 4.05 ERA and 0.96 WHIP over his 6.2 innings out of the bullpen with New Orleans this season.

Dayton was designated for assignment on Friday.
The move frees up a spot on the 40-man for Jhonatan Solano, who was called up from Triple-A on Friday after Jared Saltalamacchia was placed on the paternity list. Dayton has appeared in five games at Triple-A New Orleans, allowing three earned runs on three hits over 6.2 cumulative innings.

Dayton was optioned to Triple-A New Orleans on Friday.
Though he has yet to reach the big leagues, the 27-year-old Dayton continues to hold down a 40-man roster spot with the Marlins. The lefty shined at Double-A Jacksonville in the early part of 2014 (1.10 ERA, 1.29 WHIP over 16.1 innings), but saw his performance decline once he moved to New Orleans. He'll need some additional development time in the minors, but if a need for an extra lefty arises with the Marlins, Dayton would represent one of the leading contenders for a call-up.
