Each of the team's four victories on the year have come in games in which the score was too lopsided headed into the ninth inning for a save opportunity to arise. Clase converted 24 of his 29 save opportunities in 2021 while pitching to a 1.29 ERA and a 0.96 WHIP. He's the clear closer for the Guardians and fantasy managers can safely expect for him to start racking up saves soon.

The deal includes a $2 million signing bonus and two options at $10 million each for 2027 and 2028. The buyouts on both options are for $2 million, while escalators can bring the maximum on the options to $13 million. The Guardians will now attempt to lock up All-Star third baseman Jose Ramirez long term before Opening Day next week. Clase now has a 1.79 ERA on the season and will continue to garner save opportunities down the stretch in conjunction with James Karinchak.
