Fri Jun 10 202209:42Corbin Burnes Tagged With His Fourth Loss On Thursday
Milwaukee Brewers starting pitcher Corbin Burnes labored through his start against the Philadelphia Phillies on Thursday and wound up with his fourth loss of the year. He threw 113 pitches and was only able to last 4 1/3 innings as he gave up three hits, four walks and three runs (one earned) while striking out eight. Burnes earned quality starts in five of his six starts in May, pitching to a 2.08 ERA across the month. However, June has been a different story thus far as he lasted just 3 2/3 innings in his first start of the month. The right-hander is now 3-4 on the year with a 2.48 ERA and a 0.96 WHIP. He'll try to get back into the win column in his next start against the New York Mets next Wednesday.

Milwaukee Brewers starting pitcher Corbin Burnes put together a fantastic performance against the St. Louis Cardinals on Sunday. He went seven innings and struck out 11 batters in the 8-0 win. Burnes didn't have the best velocity, but that certainly didn't matter in this contest. He'll carry a 1.95 ERA through 10 starts into his next outing. Fantasy managers can continue to lean on Burnes going forward.

Sun May 22 202219:49Corbin Burnes Roughed Up By Braves In Last Start
Milwaukee Brewers starting pitcher Corbin Burnes faltered a bit on Wednesday, allowing a season-high four runs over six innings of work against the Braves. He gave up seven hits (including two homers) and also hit two batters. When all was said and done, his record went unblemished; Burnes finished with the no-decision as Milwaukee won in extra innings. Despite the hurler's shaky outing, he remains one of the top pitchers in baseball. He owns a fantastic 2.26 ERA, 31.5 percent strikeout rate, and 4.1 percent walk rate through eight outings. He owns one of the best whiff rates in baseball and continues to throw one of the best fastballs in Major League Baseball. Undoubtedly, Burnes should be both rostered and started in all fantasy baseball leagues.

Tue May 10 202209:00Corbin Burnes Earning Little Run Support
Milwaukee Brewers starting pitcher Corbin Burnes has turned in quality starts in each of his last five outings. Unfortunately, he's been gifted just one win over that five-game stretch. In his most recent start, this past Saturday against the Atlanta Braves, he pitched six innings while allowing six hits, one walk and two runs (one earned). The Brewers were defeated 3-2 in the game and Burnes was tagged with his second consecutive loss. Through six total starts on the year, Burnes has a 1-2 record to go along with a stellar 1.86 ERA and 0.80 WHIP. His 50 strikeouts are second in the majors. Fantasy managers have little to complain about in regards to Burnes' performance on the mound. He just needs some help from the Brewers' offense going forward. He'll be making his next start this coming Saturday against the Miami Marlins.

Tue Apr 26 202208:51Corbin Burnes Strikes Out 11 Giants On Monday
Milwaukee Brewers starting pitcher Corbin Burnes dazzled against the San Francisco Giants on Monday. He pitched 6 2/3 scoreless innings, allowing two hits and two walks while striking out 11. Unfortunately for Burnes, the Brewers' bullpen stumbled in the final innings of the game and he wound up with a no decision. After an underwhelming 2022 debut, Burnes has now turned in three straight gems, each of which went for a quality start. He has a 1.75 ERA and a 0.74 WHIP over his four starts with a 5.5 K/BB ratio. He'll look to keep rolling in his next start against the Chicago Cubs on Sunday.

Sun Apr 17 202211:08Corbin Burnes Rebounds With Gem
Milwaukee Brewers starting pitcher Corbin Burnes threw seven scoreless innings against the Orioles on Wednesday. He didn't earn the win, but he allowed just three hits and one walk while striking out eight batters. This was an important result from the 27-year-old after he gave up three runs over five innings on Opening Day. Outside of a 90th-percentile whiff rate, Burnes has posted relatively mediocre advanced metrics through his two starts. There's reason to believe that could change, though. His Baseball Savant profile lit up bright red like a stoplight last season, with his worst metric being 81st-percentile fastball velocity. Translation: Burnes is a dominant pitcher with high-quality stats. He ranks second among pitchers in our fantasy baseball draft rankings, but it would not come as a surprise if he finishes the year as No. 1.

Thu Apr 7 202218:00Corbin Burnes Allows Three Runs In No-Decision
Milwaukee Brewers starting pitcher Corbin Burnes allowed three runs on four hits across five innings pitched in a no-decision versus the Cubs on Opening Day. All of the damage against Burnes came off the bat of light-hitting shortstop Nico Hoerner, who launched a line-drive three-run homer to give Chicago the lead. Aside from the homer, Burnes wasn't sharp in this one as he allowed three walks against only four strikeouts; an uncharacteristically wild afternoon for the right-hander. Last season, Burnes posted 6.9 strikeouts to every walk issued and his 35.6% K-rate was among the best in baseball. Fantasy managers have no reason to be alarmed by this performance and Burnes remains a must-start option in a good matchup at Baltimore next time out.

Tue Mar 29 202213:45Corbin Burnes Named Opening Day Starter
Milwaukee Brewers starting pitcher Corbin Burnes will start on Opening Day on April 7 against the Chicago Cubs on the road, according to manager Craig Counsell. Burnes won the National League Cy Young in 2021 by going 11-5 with a league-leading 2.43 ERA, 0.94 WHIP, a 35.6% strikeout rate and a career-low 5.2% walk rate in 28 starts over 167 innings pitched. His 1.63 FIP, 2.00 xERA and 2.30xFIP all supported his fantastic season, and he should be drafted as a fantasy ace with his ability to induce plenty of swings and misses while also limiting the free passes. A road outing to begin the year in Chicago isn't the easiest task, but fantasy managers should consider Burnes a must-start to kick off the year.

Thu Feb 24 202213:04Corbin Burnes Working On His Changeup
Reigning National League Cy Young Award winner Corbin Burnes of the Milwaukee Brewers has been working on bolstering his arsenal this offseason. In an interview with MLB analyst Rob Friedman, Burnes stated that he has been working on his changeup "a lot this offseason." He wasn't willing to go into any additional details on the pitch during the interview. Last year, Burnes led heavily with his cutter, throwing the pitch 52.3% of the time while inducing a 32.1% whiff rate. His changeup was his third most frequently used pitch. He threw it 9.6% of the time and it generated a strong 45.9% whiff rate. We'll see what he has in store with the pitch when play finally resumes.

Milwaukee Brewers starting pitcher Corbin Burnes (7-4) dominated over the Cubs on Wednesday, pitching eight scoreless innings during which he allowed four hits and no walks while striking out 15 in a victory. The 2021 season has been a coming-out party for Burnes, and his ascension to the ranks of MLB's elite starters hit its high point Wednesday when the right-hander notched a career-high 15 punchouts. Even more remarkably, Burnes at one point struck out 10 straight batters -- all on swinging strikes -- to tie a major-league record. "It was dominant," Counsell said. "The first four innings were as good as anybody has pitched in a game. Like, not just this year, but for a long time. It was fun to watch." Sat Jul 31 202114:46Corbin Burnes Only Lasts Four Innings Against Braves
Milwaukee Brewers starting pitcher Corbin Burnes allowed five runs on nine hits and two walks with six strikeouts in four-plus innings Friday versus Atlanta. He did not factor in the decision. The right-hander matched his season-high marks for hits and runs allowed in a start. Burnes was in trouble from the start as Atlanta hung four runs on him in the first inning before adding one more in the fifth. By then, Milwaukee had recovered to keep him out of the loss column. The 26-year-old's ERA rose to 2.46 with a 0.97 WHIP and 152:20 K:BB through 106 innings this year. He's pitched well enough to earn the benefit of the doubt that Friday was just a hiccup, but he lines up for a tough home matchup versus San Francisco during next weekend's series. Fantasy owners shouldn't be concerned quite yet, but he's worth monitoring closely going forward.

Sun Jul 25 202122:53Red Sox score 5 runs in 8th inning, rally past Yankees 5-4
BOSTON (AP) — Held hitless into the eighth inning by Domingo Germán and looking feeble, Alex Verdugo and the Boston Red Sox suddenly erupted for five runs and stormed past the New York Yankees 5-4 Sunday. Verdugo opened the eighth with a long double for Boston’s first hit. Later, Kiké Hernández slid home headfirst on Xander Bogaerts’ sacrifice fly with the go-ahead run to cap the rally. The Red Sox won for the 10th time in 13 games against the Yankees and reclaimed first place in the AL East, a game ahead of Tampa Bay. New York fell nine games behind Boston. Boston trailed 4-0 when Verdugo doubled to deep right, and Germán was lifted after the hit. Jonathan Loaisiga (7-4) relieved, and Boston broke loose with four straight hits. Hunter Renfroe had an RBI double, Christian Vázquez singled home a run and Hernández followed with an RBI double, cutting it to 4-3. Zack Britton relieved and pinch-hitter Kevin Plawecki’s groundout plated the tying run. Hernández hustled hard and beat right fielder... [More]
Sun Jul 25 202102:43Sandoval loses no-hitter in 9th, Angels beat Twins 2-1
MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Patrick Sandoval had his no-hit bid broken up with one out in the ninth inning on a soft double by rookie Brent Rooker and the Los Angeles Angels beat the Minnesota Twins 2-1 on Saturday night. Sandoval, a 24-year-old lefty who began the game with a 3-13 career record, struck out a career-high 13. There have already been seven no-hitters in the majors this season. The big league record of eight was set in 1884, the first year overhand pitching was permitted. The Twins hadn’t come close to a hit until Rooker, who fanned his first three times up, flared an opposite-field fly that fell just inside the line in right. Sandoval (3-4) smiled after the ball fell, retired the next batter and then was pulled after 108 pitches. He walked one and hit two. Closer Raisel Iglesias allowed an RBI double to Josh Donaldson before getting his 21st save in 25 chances. José Berríos (7-5) allowed two unearned runs in seven innings in perhaps his final start for Minnesota. ASTROS 4, RANGERS... [More]
