Fri Sep 2 202221:08Zack Wheeler Still Experiencing Elbow Soreness
Philadelphia Phillies right-hander Zack Wheeler (elbow) will take about a week off from throwing after he experienced renewed soreness in his right elbow. Wheeler went for an MRI which showed no structural damage, but the team will have him wait until next week before he begins throwing again. The veteran hurler was originally planning to return from the injured list to make a start against the Miami Marlins on Tuesday. Wheeler could still return before the end of the regular season but it may be too late to help fantasy gamers.

Wed Aug 31 202221:58Zack Wheeler Could Return From Injured List Tuesday
Philadelphia Phillies pitcher Zack Wheeler (forearm) is expected to throw a bullpen session this weekend. If all goes well, he could be activated from the 15-day injured list to start Tuesday against the Miami Marlins. The 32-year-old had been sidelined since August 22 with tendinitis in his right forearm. He owns an 11-7 record with a 3.07 ERA, 1.08 WHIP, and a 148:33 K: BB across 138 innings in 2022. Barring any setbacks with his bullpen session, Wheeler will return from the IL and won't be limited in his first start back on Tuesday. Stay tuned for further updates.

Fri Aug 26 202221:59Zack Wheeler To Throw Bullpen Session Soon
Philadelphia Phillies right-hander Zack Wheeler (forearm) is planning to throw a pair of bullpen sessions beginning in the next three-to-five days. Wheeler has been on the injured list since August 22 with tendinitis in his right forearm. The veteran hurler told reporters on Friday that he has been dealing with tendinitis throughout the season, as well as in past seasons, but that the issue doesn't usually bother him while he's on the mound. Wheeler could be ready to return to the Philly rotation in the next few weeks, provided that he doesn't suffer any setbacks.

Thu Aug 25 202218:11Phillies Place Zack Wheeler On Injured List
The Philadelphia Phillies placed right-hander Zack Wheeler (forearm) on the 15-day injured list with right forearm tendinitis on Thursday, with the move being retroactive to Aug. 22. It comes after he has given up 10 runs in 11 1/3 innings over his last two outings, so it's possible Wheeler had been pitching through some discomfort. The 32-year-old is still 11-7 with a 3.07 ERA (2.98 FIP), 1.08 WHIP, 148 strikeouts and 33 walks in 138 innings over 23 starts the for the Phillies and needs to be stashed in all fantasy leagues while he's on the shelf. Bailey Falter could be an option to replace Wheeler in the Phillies starting rotation in the near future.

Sun Aug 14 202221:34Zack Wheeler Roughed Up Sunday
Philadelphia Phillies starting pitcher Zack Wheeler had trouble in Sunday's 6-0 loss against the New York Mets. Across six innings, the right-hander allowed six runs on nine hits, including a home run. Although, he did post a 5:1 strikeout to walk ratio. Despite the poor performance, Wheeler has been one of the best fantasy assets this season, as he owns an 11-6 record with a 2.92 ERA, 1.06 WHIP, and 142 strikeouts in 132.2 innings (22 starts). He's been dominant for three consecutive seasons, so fantasy managers should continue trusting him in every matchup.

Tue Jun 7 202217:09Zack Wheeler Goes On Paternity Leave
The Philadelphia Phillies placed right-hander Zack Wheeler on the paternity list on Tuesday and recalled outfielder Matt Vierling from Triple-A Lehigh Valley in a corresponding move. The Phillies also put infielder Johan Camargo (knee) on the 10-day injured list with a right knee strain and selected the contract of infielder/outfielder Scott Kingery from Lehigh Valley. Wheeler's next scheduled start will come this Friday against the Arizona Diamondbacks, so he shouldn't be forced to miss any time. The 32-year-old was a first-time All-Star for the Phils last year, and he's been very strong again in his first 10 starts, going 4-3 with a 3.14 ERA, league-leading 2.30 FIP, 1.17 ERA, 67 strikeouts and only 15 walks in 57 1/3 innings.

Thu May 19 202208:37Zack Wheeler Tosses Seven Shutout Innings On Wednesday
Philadelphia Phillies starting pitcher Zack Wheeler had a dominant outing against the San Diego Padres on Wednesday. The right-hander pitched seven scoreless innings, allowing four hits and no walks while striking out a season-high nine batters. This was Wheeler's best start of the year by just about all measures. After three rocky starts to begin the year, Wheeler has now earned quality starts in three of his last four outings. He'll take a 2-3 record, a 3.49 ERA and a 1.14 WHIP into his next start, which will be on Monday against the Atlanta Braves.

Wed May 11 202215:15Zack Wheeler To Start Against Dodgers On Thursday
Philadelphia Phillies starting pitcher Zack Wheeler will return from the COVID-19 injured list and start on the road against the Los Angeles Dodgers on Thursday. Wheeler went on the COVID list over the weekend, and he'll be on more than a week of rest after contracting the virus. The 31-year-old right-hander went a season-high 7 2/3 innings in his last start on May 4 against the Texas Rangers, but the Phillies might have him on more of a short leash in his return, and the matchup is poor from a fantasy perspective. Wheeler has allowed 12 earned runs on 24 hits while walking nine and striking out 25 in his first five starts over 26 1/3 innings. It's not the start his fantasy managers envisioned, but his 3.06 FIP points to better times ahead.

Sun May 8 202211:28Zack Wheeler, Zach Eflin Placed On COVID IL
The Philadelphia Phillies placed pitchers Zack Wheeler and Zach Eflin on the COVID injured list Sunday. Philadelphia called up Francisco Morales and Connor Brogdon in a corresponding move. Wheeler was scheduled to start Monday's game against the Seattle Mariners, but it's unclear when he will return to the mound; the 31-year-old has thrown 13 2/3 scoreless innings while striking out 14 over his last two starts. Eflin was scheduled to start Game 2 of Sunday's doubleheader versus the New York Mets. It's unclear if either pitcher tested positive for COVID-19 or is a close contact. Fantasy managers will need to adjust their lineups accordingly.

Fri Apr 22 202221:22Zack Wheeler Hoping To Bounce Back Saturday
Philadelphia Phillies starting pitcher Zack Wheeler is listed as the team's probable starter on Saturday against the Milwaukee Brewers. Wheeler has made only two starts this season after dealing with right shoulder soreness during the offseason and spring training. Wheeler has not looked the same so far in 2022 after posting a career-low 2.78 ERA, a 1.01 WHIP, a career-best 29.1% strikeout rate, and a 5.4% walk rate over 213 1/3 innings pitched in 2021. Over his two starts in 2022, Wheeler has posted an unsightly 9.39 ERA, 1.83 WHIP, and a 6:4 K:BB in 7 2/3IP. The Phillies' ace will look to get back on track against a struggling Brewers offense that is batting just .207 as a team heading into action on Friday.

Mon Apr 11 202211:10Zack Wheeler Scheduled To Debut Tuesday
Philadelphia Phillies starting pitcher Zack Wheeler (shoulder) is listed as the team's probable starter on Tuesday against the New York Mets, which would be his season debut after dealing with right shoulder soreness in the offseason and in spring training. The 31-year-old right-hander may be on a strict pitch count around 70-75 pitches, though, so fantasy managers should temper their expectations in his first start of 2022. Wheeler last threw in Florida on April 7 and went 60-65 pitches. If he can get past his shoulder issues early on, Wheeler could yet again be a fantasy ace after posting a career-low 2.78 ERA, a 1.01 WHIP, a career-best 29.1% strikeout rate and a 5.4% walk rate in a league-high 213 1/3 innings over 32 starts last year.

Sat Apr 2 202217:13Zack Wheeler Tosses 45 Pitches Saturday
Philadelphia Phillies starting pitcher Zack Wheeler (shoulder) threw 45 pitches in two-plus innings during an intrasquad game on Saturday. Manager Joe Girardi said that Wheeler could throw 60 pitches in his next start on Thursday in spring training. If he avoids setbacks, Wheeler will make his season debut against the New York Met on April 12. The 31-year-old right-hander was delayed to start camp due to right shoulder soreness, but he should be able to avoid starting the year on the injured. After leading the league in strikeouts in 2021 as a first-time All-Star, Wheeler has become a low-end fantasy ace.

Sat Apr 2 202210:34Zack Wheeler Moved To Minor League Game
Because of rain, Philadelphia Phillies starting pitcher Zack Wheeler (shoulder) will pitch in a minor league intrasquad game on Saturday instead of a Grapefruit League game against the Toronto Blue Jays. With Opening Day next week, it's possible that Wheeler goes into the regular season without facing major league hitters in a live game situation. The 31-year-old right-hander got a late start in camp due to right shoulder soreness, and although he could avoid the injured list to begin the season, fantasy managers should expect him to be quite limited and potentially very rusty. There's a little more risk surrounding Wheeler heading into 2022, but he should still be a low-end fantasy ace target in drafts after he posted a 2.78 ERA and 1.01 WHIP with a league-leading 247 K's and 46 walks in 32 starts over 213 1/3 innings last year.

Wed Mar 30 202214:04Zack Wheeler To Make Spring Debut Saturday
Philadelphia Phillies starting pitcher Zack Wheeler (shoulder) will make his Grapefruit League debut on Saturday against the Toronto Blue Jays, and he will also throw innings "somewhere" next Thursday, according to manager Joe Girardi. Wheeler got a late start this spring due to right shoulder soreness, but he could avoid opening the year on the injured list as long as he doesn't have any setbacks. The 31-year-old right-hander made his first All-Star team in his first year in Philly in 2021, going 14-10 with a career-low 2.78 ERA, 1.01 WHIP, a career-high 29.1% strikeout rate and a career-low 5.4% walk rate in a league-high 213 1/3 innings over 32 starts. Despite his shoulder issue, Wheeler will remain an early round selection in fantasy drafts.

Sat Mar 26 202221:15Zack Wheeler Throws Simulated Inning
Philadelphia Phillies pitcher Zack Wheeler (flu, shoulder) threw a simulated inning against multiple batters, including Bryce Harper, on Saturday. He battled shoulder soreness for most of the offseason and came down with the flu last week, but this latest development is another very positive step in the right direction. The right-hander was stellar last season, racking up 32 starts, a 2.78 ERA, 46 walks, 247 strikeouts, a 1.01 WHIP and .216 xBA. He ranked near the top of the league in opponent exit velocity, hard-hit rate, barrel rate, strikeout rate, walk rate, xERA, xBA, xwOBA, xSLG and fastball velocity. The latest RotoBaller fantasy draft rankings list the 31-year-old at No. 11 among all starters.

Wed Mar 23 202215:33Zack Wheeler Impresses In Bullpen Session
Philadelphia Phillies starting pitcher Zack Wheeler (shoulder) was impressive during a 42-pitch bullpen session on Wednesday. The right-hander entered camp a bit behind schedule after throwing a major league-leading 213 1/3 innings last year and experiencing right shoulder soreness when he resumed throwing in December. Wheeler also missed a few days last week because of the flu, but he thinks he can be ready to pitch in the first week of the season. He's next scheduled to throw a live batting practice session and then could pitch in a Grapefruit League game. As long as Wheeler doesn't suffer any setbacks from here on out, fantasy managers should have him available in Week 1 of the season.

Sat Mar 19 202210:25Zack Wheeler To Throw Bullpen Sunday
Philadelphia Phillies starting pitcher Zack Wheeler (shoulder) will throw a bullpen session on Sunday, and manager Joe Girardi won't rule him out yet from starting the regular season on time, especially if MLB allows expanded rosters to open the season. Girardi mentioned the possibility of piggy-backing Wheeler with another pitcher early in April. Wheeler recently had the flu and also dealt with shoulder soreness this offseason, so he is a bit behind. But the 31-year-old's injury doesn't seem very serious, so fantasy managers shouldn't be too concerned just yet. Wheeler has posted an ERA below 3.00 in each of his first seasons with the Phillies and was a first-time All-Star in 2021. Consider him a low-end fantasy ace.

Tue Mar 15 202220:29Zack Wheeler Comes Down With The Flu
Philadelphia Phillies starting pitcher Zack Wheeler (illness) has caught the flu, according to manager Joe Girardi. It is not a case of COVID-19. As a result of the illness, Wheeler will not throw on Thursday as he originally was scheduled to. It was reported just a few days ago that Wheeler was behind schedule in ramping up his pitching. Unfortunately, this flu diagnosis certainly won't help speed up that process. Wheeler still has plenty of time to prepare for the start of the season, but if he has another setback, we may need to start lowering him on our draft boards.
