Fri Aug 20 202122:19Mychal Givens Earns Fourth Save
Cincinnati Reds right-hander Mychal Givens threw a scoreless ninth inning to preserve a 5-3 win over the Miami Marlins on Friday. He struck out two and allowed one hit, a double to Lewis Brinson. Earlier in the game, it didn't appear that the Reds would need to turn to their closer as starter Sonny Gray departed after the seventh inning with a 5-0 lead, but Lucas Sims promptly gave up a three-run homer to Jazz Chisholm in the eighth inning, lining up a save chance for Givens. The veteran reliever now has a 3-2 record, 2.08 ERA, 1.21 WHIP, four saves, and 44 strikeouts over 39 innings of work. He seems to have taken over as the primary closer in Cincinnati going forward.

Fri Aug 6 202107:33Mychal Givens Picks Up Save Thursday
Cincinnati Reds right-hander Mychal Givens threw a scoreless ninth inning to preserve a 7-4 win over the Pittsburgh Pirates on Thursday. He was credited with the save, his first of the season. Givens has been impressive since the Reds acquired him at the trade deadline, posting five scoreless innings for his new team. Thu Aug 5 202122:52Mychal Givens Picks Up First Save Thursday
Cincinnati Reds reliever Mychal Givens earned his first save of the season in Thursday's 7-4 win against the Pittsburgh Pirates. Givens became the 10th Red to record a save this year, according to Bobby Nightengale of the Enquirer. He was acquired on July 28 from the Colorado Rockies and has appeared in five games so far for Cincinnati, picking up three holds. Givens has put up nice numbers overall with 11 holds, a 2.34 ERA, 38 K, 17 BB, and five HRs allowed over 34.2 innings. The Reds bullpen has been a mess all year and they haven't been able to find a steady closer with both Amir Garrett and Lucas Sims struggling. It wouldn't be a surprise to see Givens get a few more saves this season, and he can be an option in deep leagues and leagues that count holds.

Wed Jul 28 202112:55Mychal Givens Reportedly Traded To The Reds
Relief pitcher Mychal Givens has reportedly been traded to the Cincinnati Reds. Givens has thrown 29.2 innings for the Rockies this year, pitching to a 2.73 ERA and a 4.67 FIP while striking out 34 batters and walking 14. He could be a candidate to see a few save opportunities for Cincinnati with Lucas Sims and Tejay Antone both currently on the injured list. However, the Reds also have Heath Hembree and Amir Garrett on the roster and acquired Luis Cessa and Justin Wilson from the New York Yankees on Tuesday. You might be better off staying away from the Cincinnati bullpen in fantasy until Sims or Antone returns.

Givens allowed a run on two hits and a walk with two strikeouts in Sunday's loss to the Rays.
Though he did not show his best stuff Sunday, Givens has settled in nicely as a useful bullpen arm with the Orioles since being recalled in August. The Orioles will have a number of players leave in free agency this winter, which could open the door for Givens as a setup man as soon as next season.

Givens will return from Double-A Bowie in advance of Monday's game, taking the spot of Chaz Roe, who will be placed on the DL, MASN reports.
The team is yet to reveal the nature of Roe's injury, but Givens is already with the team in Seattle, indicating that he'll fill the vacant roster spot. Roe was optioned to Bowie just last Thursday, but he'll be allowed to return before the minimum 10 days due to the fact that he's replacing an injured player. Givens has not allowed a run in three appearances (four innings) for the Orioles, and he's 4-2 with a 1.73 ERA in 35 games (57.1 innings) at Bowie.

Givens has dominated Double-A in the first two months of the season and the Orioles may bypass Triple-A and call him up at some point this summer, according to MASN Sports.
Givens has converted 10-of-11 save opportunities and possesses a 1.21 ERA and 0.98 WHIP this season. After being promoted to Double-A midway through the 2014 season, Givens walked 23 and struck out 28 in 25.1 innings. This year, the walks have gone away and the strikeouts are on the rise, as Givens has 42 strikeouts and nine walks in 29.2 innings. Givens was converted from shortstop to reliever in 2013 and there may not be much else he needs to do to be promoted, either to Triple-A or to the Orioles.
