Myers announced Tuesday that he will be retiring from the NFL, NFL.com reports.
After he was cut by the Texans in March, Myers said that several teams were interested in bringing him aboard this season, but the 10-year pro decided it was in his best interest to hang up his cleats. Myers ends his career with a streak of 128 consecutive starts and two Pro Bowl honors to his name.
Sat Mar 7 201510:07Myers released by Texans
Myers was released by the Texans, the Houston Chronicle reports.
The move frees up an additional $6 million and paves the way for Ben Jones to take over at center on Houston's offensive line. Myers, who started 112 consecutive games for Houston and has a games-played streak of 153, feels he has some football left in him. He's a respected player and will be a good addition (in the room and in the community) to any team.

Texans re-signed free agent Chris Myers to a four-year, $25 million contract.
According to Yahoo's Jason Cole, the deal includes $14 million guarnteed. Despite interest from several teams, Myers' preference was to return to Houston throughout free agency.

Mon Feb 27 201200:52Report: Packers flirting with center Myers
The Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel reports the Packers discussed free agent C Chris Myers with his representatives "in one of the technically illegal but nonetheless widespread meetings" at the Combine.
The Journal-Sentinel's venerable NFL writer, Bob McGinn, insists nearly every re-signing and free agent signing in March "germinates" from the "supposedly illegal cub-agent meetings in Indy." Pro Football Focus' top-rated 2011 center, Myers makes sense for Green Bay as a replacement for fellow under-sized zone-blocker Scott Wells. It's conceivable that sources leaked the talks to tempt Wells into lowering his reported $7.5 million asking price.

Wed Jan 25 201210:33Texans 'won't break the bank' for Myers
The Texans "won't break the bank" to keep free agents C Chris Myers, RG Mike Brisiel, TE Joel Dreessen, and K Neil Rackers, according to the Houston Chronicle.
That doesn't mean the Texans won't make every effort to retain the foursome, but they're already up against the salary cap with Mario Williams and Arian Foster as the top priorities. Myers was arguably the top center in the NFL in 2011, though he's a purely a fit for zone-blocking teams.

Texans C Chris Myers and DE Antonio Smith have been added to the AFC's Pro Bowl roster as injury replacements.
Myers replaced Maurkice Pouncey, and Smith replaces Patriots DE Andre Carter. It's just as well. Myers outplayed Pouncey all season, finishing as Pro Football Focus' top-rated center as the pivot for one of the league's most dominant ground attacks. Smith was outstanding against the run in Wade Phillips' 3-4 scheme.

Texans C Chris Myers underwent arthroscopic surgery on his left elbow in late January.
Myers' rehab took just a few weeks, so he's already "fine." For a veteran interior lineman, elbow scopes are common badges of honor from getting jammed in the trenches.
