Orlovsky completed 21-of-38 passes for 191 yards, with one touchdown and an interception, in Sunday's 42-17 loss to Arizona.
Orlovsky entered the game midway through the third quarter for an ineffective Matthew Stafford, who tossed three interceptions. The backup QB was able to move the ball a bit in the second half, but he did not lead the Lions to a touchdown until the 1:36 mark of the fourth quarter, when he hit Lance Moore on a 13-yard score. Stafford is Detroit's franchise QB, for better or worse, so don't expect Orlovsky to start anytime soon.
Sat Aug 22 201523:23Orlovsky has pulled ahead in Detroit's backup-quarterback race
Orlovsky has pulled ahead in Detroit's backup-quarterback race, Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press reports.
Though Orlovsky and Kellen Moore have alternated days playing behind Matthew Stafford for much of the offseason, it was Orlovsky who appeared second on the Lions' initial depth chart and he has backed it up with his play. Through the first two games of the preseason, Orlovsky is 18 for 28 for 214 yards, three touchdowns and no interceptions. Moore is 12 for 24 for 98 yards thus far with no touchdowns and an interception.
Mon Mar 2 201516:08Orlovsky signed one-year deal with Lions on Monday
Orlovsky signed a one-year deal with the Lions on Monday, the team's official website reports.
One again forced to make some difficult personnel decisions, the Lions will go cheap at the backup quarterback spot, allowing for spending elsewhere. The team does seem to value Orlovsky to some extent, as it would be even cheaper to go with either Kellen Moore or a late-round pick in the upcoming draft. Still, Orlovsky has never impressed when given the chance, and he's probably one of the lesser backup quarterbacks in the league.
Mon Jan 26 201521:02Orlovsky completed 4-of-7 passes for 51 yards during 2014 season
Orlovsky completed 4-of-7 passes for 51 yards during the 2014 season.
Orlovsky saw a bit of action in a blowout loss to the Saints in December, but he otherwise spent the season watching Matthew Stafford from the sidelines. Orlovsky may not be back with the Lions in 2015, as he can become an unrestricted free agent in March, and Detroit always has a tight cap situation. Kellen Moore, the team's No. 3 quarterback in 2014, will be a restricted free agent.
Wed Apr 2 201416:04Lions add QB Dan Orlovsky to be No. 2
Lions signed QB Dan Orlovsky, formerly of the Bucs, to a one-year contract.
As expected. Orlovsky, 31 in August, was said to be at the top of the Lions' list for No. 2 duties after failing to re-sign Shaun Hill and missing out on Luke McCown. Orlovsky started five games for Lions coach Jim Caldwell's Colts in 2011.

Mon Mar 31 201420:05Lions have interest in QB Dan Orlovsky
The Detroit Free Press reports free agent QB Dan Orlovsky is believed to be at the top of the Lions' wish list for No. 2 duties.
Orlovsky was drafted by the Lions in the fifth round of the 2005 draft and started seven games for Detroit in 2008. He was also part of one of the most laughable plays in recent memory when he ran out of the back of his own end zone unknowingly. The Lions are looking for a veteran backup for Matthew Stafford.

Mon Apr 8 201318:16Bucs re-sign QB Orlovsky
Bucs re-signed QB Dan Orlovsky.
Orlovsky, who turns 30 before the season, lasted on the street just four days after his release by the Bucs in what was said to be a procedural move. Orlovsky appeared in only one game in 2012. He went 15-for-20 passing (75 percent) in the preseason with 150 yards (7.5 YPA), one touchdown, and one pick. Orlovsky is considered more of a third-stringer than quality No. 2 quarterback.

Mon Apr 8 201316:41Bucs to re-sign Dan Orlovsky
Roy Cummings of the Tampa Tribune reports QB Dan Orlovsky will re-sign with the Buccaneers.
Orlovsky, 30, served as quarterback Josh Freeman's backup last year and was released by the team last Thursday. The Tampa Tribune speculates his release was a formality in a salary restructuring move. We still expect the Bucs to add some real competition for Freeman, who is entering a make or break season.

Thu Apr 4 201317:48Bucs release QB Dan Orlovsky
Bucs released QB Dan Orlovsky.
Orlovsky, 30 in August, saw action in one game as Josh Freeman's backup last season, completing 4-of-7 passes for 51 yards. The 6-foot-5, 230-pounder has started 12 games over his career, but he's won just two of those contests. Orlovsky's release clears $1.5 million in cap space. Tampa Bay will certainly have its eyes on quarterbacks in the draft.

Sun Jan 1 201217:11Orlovsky throws for 264 yards, 1 TD
Dan Orlovsky completed 27-of-40 passes for 264 yards, one touchdown, and two interceptions against the Jaguars in Week 17.
The raw numbers aren't terrible, but the Colts never threatened after falling behind 7-0 on the opening drive. Taking over as the starter in December, Orlovsky proved capable of moving the offense against soft coverage. An impending free agent, Orlovsky may have done enough down the stretch to be brought back as Andrew Luck's clipboard-holder should the Colts part with Peyton Manning.

Thu Dec 22 201123:45Orlovsky leads Colts to second straight win
Dan Orlovsky completed 23-of-41 passes for 244 yards and a touchdown against the Texans in Week 16.
Orlovsky started slowly, managing just 64 yards of offense compared to 62 penalty yards by late in the second quarter. Though he struggled in the red zone, Orlovsky impressed with a series of touch passes in quarters two through four. Down 16-12 with 2:00 remaining, Orlovsky drove the Colts down the field and hit Reggie Wayne in the corner of the end zone for the game-winning 1-yard touchdown. Fighting hard for a backup opportunity in 2012, Orlovsky has a plus matchup at Jacksonville in Week 17.

Sun Dec 11 201116:08Orlovsky struggles as Colts lose yet again
Dan Orlovsky completed 17-of-37 passes for 136 yards, one touchdown, and one interception as the Colts were thumped by the Ravens 24-10 in Week 14.
The Colts are now 0-13. Orlovsky was brutal in the face of a relentless Ravens pass rush that was dialed up after Baltimore jumped out to an early two-score lead. None of Orlovsky's receivers cleared 50 yards on the day, and he took four sacks, also fumbling three times. Orlovsky figures to struggle again when the Colts face the Titans' underrated pass defense in Week 15.

Sun Dec 4 201118:00Orlovsky throws for 353 yards, two touchdowns
Dan Orlovsky completed 30-of-37 passes for 353 yards and two touchdowns in Sunday's loss to the Patriots.
He added an interception in the fourth quarter on a pass intended for Austin Collie. Orlovsky completed the majority of his passes in the second half when the game was decidedly lost, but was more effective than his predecessor in Curtis Painter and connected with Pierre Garcon on two scoring plays late in the game. He'll continue to serve as the Colts starting quarterback in Week 14 at Baltimore.

Tue Nov 29 201113:12Colts name Orlovsky Week 13 starter at QB
Updating a previous item, coach Jim Caldwell has named Dan Orlovsky the Colts' starting quarterback for Week 13 against the Patriots.
Caldwell changed his mind -- or, more likely, had it changed for him -- after suggesting Monday that Curtis Painter would remain the starter. On the same day that DC Larry Coyer was fired, the Colts are doing quite a bit of house-cleaning. Orlovsky has plenty of experience at the helm of a winless team from his stint with the Lions in 2008. Even with Painter's nine turnovers to one touchdown over the past five games, Orlovsky isn't much of an upgrade.

Wed Nov 23 201108:32Colts quarterback decision coming today?
ESPN's Paul Kuharsky expects the Colts to name a Week 12 quarterback Wednesday.
The simple fact that the 0-10 Colts are debating between Curtis Painter and Dan Orlovsky shows how messy their season has gotten. Local beat writers have been pushing for Orlovsky -- who was part of the Lions 0-16 team in 2008 -- to get a chance. Regardless, the Colts should go extremely run-heavy against the Panthers laughable run defense this week.

Tue Nov 1 201113:34Orlovsky leads workout parade for Jags
Ex-Colts QB Dan Orlovsky was one of 14 street free agents to participate in a workout with the Jaguars on Tuesday.
Former Bengals QB Dan LeFevour and oft-injured QB/WR Isaiah Stanback were also on hand for the workout. The Jags are likely just building their emergency list during the bye week.
