Newly signed Shawn Lauvao will start at left guard and Lichtensteiger takes over at center for Will Montgomery. It's an upgrade. Lichtensteiger, who is putting on weight as he prepares for new coach Jon Gruden's power scheme, was a center in college and says he feels most comfortable there.

Tue Jan 14 201413:32Skins LG Lichtensteiger could be in jeopardy
The Washington Post believes LG Kory Lichtensteiger "could have trouble" if the Redskins switch to a power-blocking scheme under new coach Jay Gruden.
Lichtensteiger is awfully undersized at 6-foot-2, 284 and would have to put on significant weight to make the switch from a zone-blocking scheme. The Post wonders if the Redskins may ask him to move to center. Lichtensteiger inked a five-year, $17.5 million deal with Washington last March. He graded out as Pro Football Focus' No. 33 guard out of 81 qualifiers in 2013.

Mon Jul 30 201218:02Lichtensteiger undergoes clean-up surgery
Redskins LG Kory Lichtensteiger underwent a clean-up procedure on his troublesome right knee Monday, but is expected to be ready for Week 1.
Color us skeptical. Lichtensteiger absolutely shredded his knee last season, tearing his ACL and MCL while suffering meniscus damage. Coach Mike Shanahan claimed his MRI revealed no ACL or MCL damage, however. Regardless, Lichtensteiger is now in real danger of missing Week 1, while the Redskins may be forced to turn to 2011 seventh-rounder Maurice Hurt at left guard. Washington should be in the market for a guard.

Fri Mar 2 201217:43Redskins tender RFA guard Lichtensteiger
Redskins extended restricted free agent LG Kory Lichtensteiger an original pick tender.
Lichtensteiger started the first five games last season before tearing his right ACL and MCL. The right of first refusal tender will keep the former fourth-round draft pick safe from "predator" teams. As an interior offensive lineman, Lichtensteiger has a better chance at a quick recovery than a running back or receiver might following such a severe knee injury.
