The Giants have terminated Ogletree's contract, nj.com reports.

Ogletree, who caught just five passes for 50 yards in seven games for the Giants last season, will now look for a depth wideout job elsewhere, while players such as Geremy Davis, Corey Washington, Preston Parker and Marcus Harris look to secure spots on New York's final roster.

Ogletree re-signed with the Giants on Tuesday, Mike Garafolo of FOX Sports reports.

After signing with the Giants in October, Ogletree caught just five passes for 50 yards in seven games. He'll likely need to compete for a roster spot in 2015, and with Odell Beckham, Victor Cruz and Reuben Randle all under contract, Ogletree is unlikely to make much of an impact.

With Victor Cruz done for the year with a torn patellar tendon, the Giants will welcome Ogletree aboard for depth at the wide receiver position. Ogletree made a splash in Week 1 of the 2012 season while with Dallas, catching eight passes for 114 yards and two touchdowns, but he's scored just four times in his other 61 career games and is unlikely to see significant looks in New York behind the likes of Rueben Randle and Odell Beckham.

Ogletree and Kris Durham are the leading candidates to work behind the starters, with Jeremy Ross and Ryan Broyles also in the picture. None of the bunch has really stood out this preseason, and there probably won't be many targets left for the third and fourth wide receivers in Detroit's offense.

While a lone miscue shouldn't harm Ogletree's bid for the No. 3 wideout role, his drop was rather embarrassing, as the ball went through his hands and smacked his facemask, before popping up in the air for a near-interception. While Kris Durham got the start in place of Calvin Johnson, bot Ogletree and Durham played a good number of snaps early in the game.

Ogletree has emerged as the favorite to serve as the Lions' No. 3 wide receiver, according to the Detroit Free Press.

With Calvin Johnson and Golden Tate locked in as the starters, Ogletree will compete for snaps with the likes of Kris Durham and Ryan Broyles, among others. The Lions found a solid Megatron complement in Tate, but still lack depth at the wide receiver position. While the lack of depth is an issue, it certainly helps that the Lions have Brandon Pettigrew and first-round pick Eric Ebron at tight end, not to mention a pair of talented receiving backs in Reggie Bush and Joique Bell. If Johnson and Tate stay healthy, there shouldn't be many targets available for the Lions' other wideouts.

Though he seems like the front runner now, Ogletree will carry little fantasy value even if he wins the job. The Lions love to utilize their running backs in the passing game, and rookie TE Eric Ebron should see most of his snaps in the slot this season.

Ogletree appears to have a leg up on the competition for the No. 3 job behind Vincent Jackson and Mike Williams. Tiquan Underwood posted a 28/425/2 line on 55 targets in that role last year. It's not a battle fantasy owners need to watch closely.
