Giants re-signed DT Mike Patterson.
Patterson turns 31 before the season, but remains an effective situational run stopper with some disruptive flashes. He had 23 tackles across 16 games last year, starting one. Patterson is a good bet to make the Giants' 53.

Sat Mar 22 201418:27Giants could bring back Mike Patterson
The Giants haven't ruled out re-signing free agent DT Mike Patterson.
Patterson was a key rotational player and run stopper last season, appearing in all 16 games. The Giants currently lack depth on their defensive line, so he could be brought back on a one-year deal to provide veteran insurance.

Sun Jan 26 201409:16Mike Patterson wants to re-sign with G-Men
Impending free agent DT Mike Patterson expressed a desire to re-sign with the Giants.
"I waited a long time to get in this locker room," Patterson said. "Hopefully I'm back next season." Cut by the Eagles because he didn't fit their 3-4 scheme, Patterson was scooped up by the Giants last April. He was a key rotational player and an above-average run stopper. The G-Men are expected to show some interest in re-signing Patterson, likely on a one-year deal.

Wed Apr 3 201318:16G-Men sign former Eagle DT Mike Patterson
Giants agreed to terms with DT Mike Patterson, formerly of the Eagles.
Along with Cullen Jenkins, Patterson is the second Eagles' defensive lineman to defect to the Giants this offseason. A full-time starter every year between 2006-11, Patterson was limited to just five games by illness last season. Provided he's healthy, Patterson should be a nice piece of depth for the Giants' already stout defensive line.

The Giants will host DT Mike Patterson for a free-agent visit on Tuesday.
Patterson was reported in late February to be visiting the Lions, but it's unclear whether the meeting ever happened. Patterson will be at the same Giants visit that fellow free agents QB Pat White and RB Tim Hightower attend.

Wed Feb 27 201316:27Mike Patterson visiting the Lions
Free agent DT Mike Patterson will visit the Lions.
It would be a good fit for a player very familiar with the "Wide 9," though the former six-year starter would have to be open to coming off the bench behind Ndamukong Suh and Nick Fairley. Illness limited Patterson to just five games in 2012.

Mon Feb 25 201315:59Cleaning house: Eagles release Mike Patterson
Eagles released DT Mike Patterson.
Patterson, 29, was owed a $2.9 million base salary. His release saves $3 million versus the cap. An undersized nose tackle who's spent his entire career in Philadelphia, Patterson was the 31st overall pick in the 2005 draft. At 6-foot-1, 300, he was a poor fit for the Eagles' new 3-4 scheme and will join Cullen Jenkins on the street. Philly is now wafer thin on the defensive line beyond Fletcher Cox and Antonio Dixon, but has ample cap space to work with. Expect the Birds to go hard after a defensive end and a nose tackle in free agency and/or the draft.

Thu Dec 13 201217:26Mike Patterson will be paid full salary
Eagles DT Mike Patterson (pneumonia, reserve/non-football illness list) will be paid his full salary.
A standoff was brewing after the Eagles placed Patterson on the NFI list and decided to withhold some of his salary, but they've relented after 24 hours of bad publicity. Patterson was planning to file a grievance and argue he could have, in fact, contracted pneumonia playing football. The 29-year-old defensive tackle is signed through 2016, and due $2.9 million next season.

Wed Dec 12 201214:50Mike Patterson headed to NFI list
Eagles placed DT Mike Patterson (pneumonia) on the non-football injury/illness list, ending his season.
The "non-football injury" designation allows the Eagles to dock Patterson's pay, which they will apparently do. According to Profootballtalk, the move is "expected to cause hard feelings" since Patterson quite possibly got sick practicing or playing in inclement weather. Just another day in the life of an NFL player. Patterson is signed through 2016, but his Eagles future is likely up in the air after he appeared in just five games this season.

Sat Dec 8 201209:45Eagles DT Patterson hospitalized w/ pneumonia
Eagles DT Mike Patterson was hospitalized Thursday with viral pneumonia and remained in the hospital on Friday.
The illness is not related to the arteriovenous malformation in Patterson's brain that affected him last season and required surgery. Team trainer Rick Burkholder said Patterson was "doing fine" and was stable while the team awaited test results. Patterson has been ruled out for Sunday's game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and will not travel with the team.

Sat Nov 3 201215:15Patterson expected to be activated for Week 9
Eagles activated DT Mike Patterson (brain surgery) from the reserve/non-football injury list.
"We'll get it done (Saturday)," head coach Andy Reid said. "It'll be knocked out today one way or another." Patterson has been practicing for the past two weeks. It's been his first action on the field since undergoing offseason surgery to fix a congenital tangle of blood vessels in his brain. Many expected Patterson to miss the season, and his career was even in slight question a few months back. Reid added that Patterson's "moved around well" and has "felt good all the way through workouts." Philadelphia will surely monitor the 29-year-old's snaps upon his return.

Eagles DT Mike Patterson (NFI list) practiced Monday for the first time since undergoing offseason brain surgery.
"It felt great," Patterson said. "Was a change of pace, too. Don't have to watch practice through the window anymore." The Eagles have a three-week window to activate Patterson from the NFI list. According to CSN Philly, Patterson is "no lock" to play this year and "still a long way from being activated."

Sat Oct 20 201223:07Report: Eagles to activate Patterson from PUP
Eagles DT Mike Patterson (brain surgery) could be activated from the PUP list Monday.
Patterson is expected to begin practicing next week, but is still a "ways off from game ready." The Eagles have until Week 9 to decide whether to add him to their active roster. An eight-year veteran, Patterson is making $1.5 million this season and under contract through 2016. He hasn't appeared in game-action since 2011.

Sat Sep 15 201214:27Eagles cut DT Patterson's 2012 salary
Eagles renegotiated injured DT Mike Patterson's contract.
Patterson was scheduled to make $2.1 million in 2012 but will instead make $1.05 million while he recovers from offseason brain surgery. The Eagles are still holding out hope that the 2005 first-rounder can return to the field this season, but it seems in doubt. Patterson is under contract through the 2016 season.

Mon Aug 27 201213:18Patterson lands on non-football illness list
Eagles placed DT Mike Patterson (brain surgery) on the non-football illness list.
Technically, Patterson will be eligible to return in Week 8, but he's likely to simply be shifted to injured reserve. The Eagles have insisted Patterson's anteriovenous malformation (AVM) isn't career-threatening, but it will be a troubling sign for his NFL future if he can't get on the field this season.

Sun Aug 26 201212:18Reid: Mike Patterson could miss entire season
Eagles coach Andy Reid admitted that DT Mike Patterson (PUP, brain surgery) will be out for quite a while and potentially the entire season.
Patterson underwent January surgery to repair an anteriovenous malformation (AVM) and was given a six-month timetable for a return. He's clearly not back to full health, however, and doesn't figure to contribute this season. The Eagles have said the injury is not career-threatening, but, considering the delicate nature of his situation, only time will tell.

Sun Jul 22 201217:13Eagles are shutting down DT Mike Patterson
Eagles trainer Rick Burkholder revealed Sunday that DT Mike Patterson (brain surgery) will not participate in training camp.
Patterson has been placed on the non-football injury list, with "no timetable for return." Eagles doctors decided to shut down Patterson because he's simply not ready to practice or play in games. Per Burkholder, the Eagles believed Patterson would be healed from his brain AVM surgery after six months of rehab, "but he's not" and "it could be a couple (more) months." While the Eagles are saying for now that Patterson's injury is not career threatening, slower-than-anticipated recovery from brain surgery is an obvious long-term concern.

Thu Jul 19 201209:56Eagles still aren't sure on Patterson
The Eagles still aren't sure if DT Mike Patterson (brain surgery) will be ready for the start of training camp.
Patterson will report to Lehigh on Wednesday and undergo a physical before a decision on his status is made. He's penciled in as a starter in the base defense, but the Eagles figure to play it safe considering the serious nature of his ailment. They're also plenty deep at defensive tackle with Cullen Jenkins, first-rounder Fletcher Cox, Derek Landri and Antonio Dixon.

Thu May 31 201209:40Mike Patterson expects to be back by camp
Eagles DT Mike Patterson (brain surgery) is sitting out OTAs, but "thinks" he'll be ready by training camp.
Patterson underwent January surgery to repair an anteriovenous malformation (AVM). He knows DL coach Jim Washburn's scheme already, so Patterson's absence isn't a concern. Rookie Fletcher Cox should benefit from more reps.
