A.Q. Shipley will start at center in the Ravens' second preseason game.

Shipley is locked in a tight duel with Gino Gradkowski, who started the first exhibition game. Gradkowski is listed as the starter. "The problem is they're both playing real well right now," run-game coordinator Juan Castillo said. The Ravens are going to be fine at center despite losing Matt Birk to retirement.

Ravens acquired C A.Q. Shipley from the Colts in exchange for a 2014 conditional draft pick.

After Matt Birk decided to retire, the Ravens were left with 2012 fourth-rounder Gino Gradkowski as their starting center. Shipley, who graded out positively while playing 476 snaps in front of Andrew Luck last year, will at least bring strong competition. It's another cost-effective, low-risk move for dominant Ravens GM Ozzie Newsome.
