Wed Oct 7 201511:28Martin signed one-year contract with Bears on Tuesday
Martin signed a one-year contract with the Bears on Tuesday, Brad Biggs of the Chicago Tribune reports.
Martin, who was cut by the Bears in training camp, re-signed with the team after Antrel Rolle suffered a foot injury in Sunday's win over the Raiders, putting his status in question for the Week 5 game against the Chiefs. If Rolle is unavailable for that contest, Martin or backup Harold Jones-Quartey could see the start at strong safety.

Martin was released by the Bears during final roster cuts, the Chicago Tribune reports.
The Bears determined that Harold Jones-Quartey, who was claimed off waivers from the Cardinals, would be a better option for their safety ranks than Martin. He had appeared in 13 games last season for the Bears, recording 16 tackles and an interception.

Thu Apr 11 201316:25S Sherrod Martin to visit Chiefs on Friday
Free agent S Sherrod Martin is visiting the Chiefs on Thursday.
Martin, 28, started 31-of-32 games for the Panthers from 2010-11, but he was demoted to backup duties behind Haruki Nakamura and Charles Godfrey last season. The former second-round pick shredded both his ACL and MCL in December, so the Chiefs are likely just checking in on him.

The Charlotte Observer expects the Panthers to let free agent S Sherrod Martin (ACL surgery) walk.
The former second-round pick is barely two months removed from wrecking his knee. Martin started 31 games between 2010-11, but came off the bench last season. He could have a hard time landing a contract before Week 1.

Panthers placed S Sherrod Martin (knee) on injured reserve, ending his season.
Martin injured his ACL and MCL during Sunday's loss to the Chiefs. It's a brutal injury as his rookie contract is up after this season. The 2009 second-rounder had been seeing increased snaps ahead of Haruki Nakamura lately. Martin's 2012 season ends with 23 tackles and three pass breakups.

Mon Jun 4 201211:13Sherrod Martin still running with first team
Sherrod Martin is running as the Panthers' starting free safety in OTAs.
Martin is "on alert" after the Panthers signed Haruki Nakamura and Reggie Smith, but still has the inside track to a starting job. It's possible Martin and Nakamura could end up splitting snaps, with Martin playing obvious passing downs and Nakamura obvious running downs.

Fri Mar 16 201217:54Nakamura to compete with FS Martin
The Charlotte Observer confirms newly signed Haruki Nakamura will compete with FS Sherrod Martin for the starting job.
Martin struggled badly at times last season, missing tackles and giving up too many big plays. Although Martin may have the edge in coverage skills, Nakamura is better in run support.

Sat Dec 4 201011:38Panthers' DB Martin fined $40,000 for hit
The NFL has fined Panthers DB Sherrod Martin $40,000 for a Week 12 illegal hit on Browns TE Evan Moore.
The bloated fine stems from the fact that this is Martin's fourth transgression in the eyes of the league. Although Martin is a repeat offender for helmet-to-helmet hits, Moore didn't even have to leave the game. Considering Martin's current game check amounts to $23,235 before taxes, he had better rectify the way he tackles before the NFL bankrupts him.

Sat Oct 9 201011:12Sherrod Martin out for Week 5 vs. Chicago
Panthers FS Sherrod Martin has officially been ruled out for Sunday's game against the Bears.
The Panthers dodge a bullet, as they take on underwhelming Bears' QB Todd Collins in Week 5 followed by a Week 6 bye. Martin has excelled in his first year as a starter, and will undoubtedly return to the first-team after he recovers from his concussion.

Sun Oct 3 201022:27Sherrod Martin concussion
Panthers FS Sherrod Martin suffered a concussion in the team's Week 4 loss to New Orleans.
Martin has been terrific as a first-year starter, so his loss would be a big blow to a Carolina team that not only has been up and down in pass coverage, but has zero depth at virtually any position. Jordan Pugh replaced him.

Wed Apr 28 201008:44Martin and Godfrey set to start
Sherrod Martin and Charles Godfrey will be the Panthers' starting safeties in 2010 now that Chris Harris is gone.
Martin and Godfrey had been battling for the free safety job last year. Now, they'll be asked to step up as full-time starters. Martin was a college safety that started his pro career as a nickel corner before moving back to safety when Godfrey got hurt. He'll be the free safety this year.
