The Lions have resigned Cudjo, Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press reports.

Cudjo takes the roster spot opened up by Alex Carter being moved to injured reserve with a designation to return. Cudjo was tied for the team lead in sacks during the preseason with two. He figures to find a role in the Lions' defensive tackle rotation as Caraun Reid rebounds from an ankle sprain and rookie Gabe Wright adjusts to life in the NFL.

The journeyman defensive lineman has had a strong camp and followed up with a four-tackle-one-sack performance on Thursday. He continues to be in the thick of Detroit's defensive line battle along with fellow tackles Caraun Reid, Tyrunn Walker and Gabe Wright.

Cudjo's strong camp may put him in position to make Detroit's 53-man roster, David Birkett of the Detroit Free Press reports.

Filling out the defensive tackle depth chart has become one of the most intriguing stories of Lions camp, with Cudjo, Tyrunn Walker and Caraun Reid all drawing consistent praise. Whether or not Cudjo makes the final cut may come down to how many players at other positions emerge. It would be hard to imagine the Lions cutting current starters Walker and Reid, veteran pickup Haloti Ngata or 2015 fourth-round pick Gabe Wright in favor of the journeyman Cudjo, who last played a regular-season game in 2013.

Cudjo was released by the Chiefs on Monday, ESPN Kansas City reports.

Kudjo was released by the Rams in May and subsequently signed by the Chiefs less than a week later to add depth on the defensive line. His preseason must not have been impressive enough to keep him on the roster, as he was one of 12 casualties during the first round of cuts.
