Greco is expected to start at right guard ahead of Garrett Gilkey, the Cleveland Plain Dealer reports.
Greco spent time on the non-football injury list early in camp, but has since passed his conditioning test, as was active for the team's first two preseason games. Joel Bitonio is expected to grab the starting guard spot opposite Greco, while Pro Bowler Alex Mack starts at center to round out the interior line.

Browns placed RG John Greco on the active/NFI list
Greco is dealing with an undisclosed injury, and doesn't have a timetable to return. The missed time will allow Garrett Gilkey to get the majority of first-team reps at right guard, with rookie Joel Bitonio getting snaps next to LT Joe Thomas. 29-year-old Greco made 14 starts and graded out positively in pass protection last season, but isn't a lock to keep his starting job.

Fri May 2 201415:10Browns work John Greco at right guard
The Browns used John Greco at right guard during their pre-draft minicamp.
Greco primarily played left guard in 2013, but has experience on the right side and may appeal to new OC Kyle Shanahan more there due to his run-blocking prowess. NFL teams like strong run blockers at right guard and right tackle. At the minicamp, Mitchell Schwartz played right tackle with Paul McQuistan at left guard. Joe Thomas and Alex Mack remain entrenched at left tackle and center.

Wed Jul 24 201316:31John Greco gets 5-year, $13 million contract
Browns LG John Greco's five-year contract has a max worth of $13 million if he maintains a starting job.
If Greco plays as well as he did in 2012, it's a steal of a deal for the Browns, who also protected themselves by making the deal worth just $6 million over five seasons if Greco loses his starting job. Just $3 million of the pact is guaranteed. Greco is expected to be Cleveland's starting left guard this season. Shawn Lauvao and Jason Pinkston are competing to start at right guard.

Browns signed OG John Greco to a new five-year contract.
Acquired from the Rams for a seventh-round pick prior to the 2011 season, Greco has developed into a solid mauling run-blocking guard. He's now locked up through the 2017 season, and the new deal likely solidifies his spot as a starter at one of the guard spots. Jason Pinkston and Shawn Lauvao will compete on the other side. Greco had one year left on his deal at $800,000.

Mon Jul 15 201318:07Greco front-runner for one of Browns OG jobs
The Akron Beacon-Journal reports Brown OG John Greco appears to be a "front-runner" for one of the starting guard spots.
Greco, Shawn Lauvao, and Jason Pinkston are in a three-way competition for both starting guard positions. Greco received the most first-team reps -- mainly at right guard -- in spring practices, followed by Lauvao and then Pinkston. After starting just four games in his first four seasons, Greco started ten contests last season and was easily Cleveland's best guard.

Browns OG John Greco triggered an escalator in his contract, upping his 2013 salary from $725,000 to $800,000.
Greco started ten games in 2012 after starting just four games combined in his previous four seasons in the league. After LG Jason Pinkston went down in Week 6 with a blood clot in his lung that forced him to go to injured reserve, Greco stepped in and proved to be a mauling run blocker. He has one year left on his deal.

Sat Jul 30 201122:59Browns acquire OG Greco from Rams
Browns acquired OG John Greco from the Rams in exchange for an undisclosed future draft pick.
The 65th overall pick in 2008, Greco had support among the Rams' scouting staff but his inability to consistently pass protect was his undoing. St. Louis valued keeping Sam Bradford upright over all else. Greco is familiar with new head coach Pat Shurmur, and the Browns may be gearing up to release overrated LG Eric Steinbach. Either way, Greco should make the 53-man roster.

Sat Jul 30 201122:36Report: John Greco traded to Browns
Sources tell Rams beat writer Jim Thomas that OG John Greco has been traded to the Browns.
Greco was not a favorite of St. Louis' coaching staff last year (they played him behind the ineffective Adam Goldberg), and will now have a chance to showcase his run-blocking prowess in Cleveland. He apparently had a fan in Pat Shurmur, his former offensive coordinator in St. Louis and now head coach.

Wed Mar 2 201119:28Rams tender John Greco
Rams extended restricted free agent OG John Greco an original pick tender.
Greco is a three-year vet, meaning his tender will last past the next CBA. One of St. Louis' better run blockers, Greco doesn't seem to be a coaching staff favorite. He played behind ineffective Adam Goldberg most of last year.
