The Eagles have signed Lewis, Zach Berman of the Philadelphia Inquirer reports.

Lewis, who started five games for the Bills in 2013 and one for the Browns in 2012, gives the Eagles a No. 3 QB with more experience than Stephen Morris, who the team released on Monday.

Lewis was released by the Browns on Saturday, Mary Kay Cabot of the Cleveland Plain Dealer reports.

With Johnny Manziel (elbow) and Connor Shaw (thumb) both banged up, Lewis looked like a good bet to make the final roster. Shaw was placed on injured reserve, so either the Browns are rolling with Pat Devlin as the backup, or else Manziel is expected to be fine for Week 1.

Lewis threw for 66 yards on 4-of-5 passing, adding two rushes for 11 yards and a touchdown in Saturday's victory over the Buccaneers.

Lewis capitalized on injuries to Johnny Manziel (elbow) and Connor Shaw (thumb) that occurred prior to Saturday evening's contest, as he was allowed to play the better part of the second half. After working with the third and fourth-team offenses for most of camp, the 27-year-old put forth an admirable performance, highlighted by a well-placed deep sideline completion to Josh Lenz. Considering Shaw's thumb injury is expected to sideline him long-term, Lewis should be a safe bet to earn a roster spot as the third-string quarterback behind Josh McCown and Johnny Manziel.

Lewis signed with the Browns on Thursday, Daryl Ruiter of 923 The FAN reports.

Heading into training camp, Lewis will likely rank no better than third or fourth on the Browns' quarterback depth chart, as he'll join a collection of signal callers that includes presumptive starter Josh McCown and two second-year players in Johnny Manziel and Connor Shaw. Lewis has bounced around the league the last few seasons as a backup, but does have some familiarity with the Browns' organization. He made a start for Cleveland in Week 17 of the 2012 season, completing 22-of-34 passes for 204 yards, a touchdown, and an interception in a 24-10 loss to the Steelers.

The Texans have waived Lewis, Aaron Wilson of the Baltimore Sun reports.

Lewis, who caught on with the Texans last November after Ryan Mallett was placed on injured reserve, will now look to catch on elsewhere as a depth quarterback.

Head coach Bill O'Brien said he's "pretty close" to making a decision as to whether Lewis or Case Keenum will start this coming Sunday against Baltimore, the Texans' official site reports.

However, the coach is not ready to divulge which one will start. "I'm going to keep that one close to the vest," O'Brien said Wednesday. O'Brien added that both Lewis and Keenum will prepare to start "right up until game time," suggesting the identity of his start will not be revealed until Sunday.

Lewis has not been confirmed as the backup quarterback yet, the Houston Chronicle reports. The Duke product was signed earlier this week after Ryan Mallett was placed on injured reserve with a torn pectoral muscle.

Head coach Bill O'Brien, who was an offensive coordinator at Duke when Lewis was there, wants to see how much of the system the quarterback grasps in his first practice week before declaring him the top backup. That means for now, Lewis or Tom Savage will be the fill-in should Ryan Fitzpatrick be unable to finish Sunday's game against the Titans.

Lewis will sign with the Texans, ESPN's Adam Schefter reports.

With Ryan Mallett (shoulder) lost for the season, Lewis would likely step in to compete with Tom Savage for the backup job behind Ryan Fitzpatrick. Lewis started five games for the Bills last season, going 2-3 and eclipsing the 200-yard mark on four occasions. The Duke product threw for 1,092 total yards with four touchdowns and three picks last season.

Lewis has been released by the Bills, NFL.com reports.

Lewis started five games last season while E.J. Manuel nursed a knee injury, but failed to satisfy the Bills' coaching staff with his progress leading up to this season. In a corresponding move, the Bills will sign veteran Jordan Palmer, who was recently released by the Bears. Palmer has a history of mentoring young quarterbacks, which should help both Manuel and promoted backup Jeff Tuel develop further this season.

Lewis saw no meaningful action in team drills during Wednesday's practice, the second straight day that's happened, The Buffalo News reports.

It's been a lackluster summer for Lewis, and after completing just 1-of-6 passes for 18 yards with an interception during Saturday's preseason loss in Pittsburgh, it looks like Jeff Tuel may have officially passed him for the No. 2 job behind EJ Manuel.

Lewis, who played part of the second half in Saturday's preseason loss to Pittsburgh, was awful in the contest, completing just 1 of 6 passes for 18 yards with an interception.

Jeff Tuel was a bit better. Even though Lewis was supposed to be the clear-cut No. 2 entering the season, he's done pretty much nothing throughout training camp and he's not doing much in the games to make Tuel go away. As it seems right now, this might be a dead heat for the No. 2 role behind EJ Manuel.

Lewis was the third quarterback to play in Sunday's preseason loss to the Giants. He completed 10 of 16 passes for 87 yards with an interception and a fumble.

It was assumed in the spring that Lewis was the clear-cut backup to Manuel, but Jeff Tuel has progressed nicely and coach Doug Marrone declared it an open battle in camp. Given that Tuel got the work with the second-teamers here and he slightly outperformed Lewis in the game, he may be slightly ahead at this time. See if Lewis gets his turn with the second-teamers this week against Carolina, or if the Bills keep rolling with Tuel.

With E.J. Manuel coming off three knee surgeries and proving to be rather injury-prone as a rookie, it's a battle worth monitoring from afar. Lewis entered the spring as the heavy favorite, but Tuel impressed during OTAs and "earned himself some more reps." The two have been splitting second-team work the first couple days of training camp. Lewis was far better than UDFA Tuel in 2013.

The Bills are "very high" on Thad Lewis as their backup quarterback.

Lewis held his own in five starts filling in for E.J. Manuel last year, passing for 1,092 yards and a 4:3 touchdown-to-interception ratio. He's reuniting with QB coach Todd Downing, who came over with Jim Schwartz this offseason, and not expected to face any competition for the backup job. The Bills are confident that both Lewis and Manuel can take the next step in their development in 2014.

E.J. Manuel sprained his knee last week against the Jaguars and has been ruled out due to swelling. Coach Doug Marrone feels Lewis gives the team its best chance to win. Lewis started three games for the Bills earlier in the year, leading Buffalo to a 23-21 road win at Miami in Week 7. He's not a fantasy option.

Lewis couldn't go in Week 9, leaving starting duties to undrafted rookie Jeff Tuel. Lewis would need another Manuel injury to reclaim the starting job. Buffalo's quarterback of the future, Manuel wouldn't be benched for simply struggling.

Lewis and E.J. Manuel (knee) split first-team reps, with Manuel handling the majority of them. Manuel is expected to return this week, barring any setbacks. The Bills are just preparing Lewis in case something goes awry with Manuel.

Bills coach Doug Marrone told reporters Monnday that Thad Lewis (ribs) will return to practice this week.

Lewis threw passes on Monday and appears to be recovering on schedule from his Week 8 rib injury, which caused him to be inactive for Sunday's loss to Buffalo. As for Week 10, Marrone was noncommittal on E.J. Manuel's (knee) availability, stating "we'll get him out there and see." We're totally guessing on a Monday, but would give Manuel a 60 percent chance of starting against Pittsburgh, with Lewis at 45 percent and Jeff "Tuel Time" Tuel at 5 percent.
