Fri Feb 27 201511:28Chris Canty: Released By Ravens
Canty was released by the Ravens on Friday, Jeff Zrebiec of the Baltimore Sun reports.
Canty's contract wasn't all that unreasonable, but he's not much more than a solid veteran, and the Ravens have some interesting young talent on the defensive line. Assuming the 10-year veteran doesn't re-sign with Baltimore, his absence should clear the way for Timmy Jernigan to join the starting lineup in 2015. With just 21.5 sacks in his 10 NFL seasons, Canty has never been much of an IDP producer.

Canty was removed from Sunday's game against the Browns with a right leg injury, Jeff Zrebiec of the Baltimore Sun reports.
As a 3-4 defensive end, Canty is tasked with setting the edge more than pursuing ballcarriers or the quarterback, thus hindering his overall IDP value. However, he's quite valuable cog for the Ravens along their defensive line, and might not be easily replaceable if the leg injury forces him out of further game action.

Sat Jun 15 201309:17Chris Canty "had a dominant minicamp"
According to Ravens beat reporter Aaron Wilson, DE Chris Canty "had a dominant minicamp."
Wilson noted that Canty looked explosive and slimmed down, and the former Cowboys fourth-round draft pick from Virginia consistently disrupted passing lanes and shoved offensive linemen into the backfield. The Ravens envision a versatile role for Canty with him lining up everywhere from defensive tackle to defensive end, but he isn't expected to play nose tackle.

Canty broke the news on his Twitter account. The former Giant also drew interest from the Packers, Titans and Jaguars. Canty tallied just 26 tackles and three sacks in nine games last season, but should be a solid fit as a five-technique tackle along the Ravens' 3-4 line. Sat Feb 16 201315:57Canty could give Panthers a hometown discount
Free agent DT Chris Canty said he "might be willing" to give the Panthers a hometown discount if they show interest in him.
Canty has yet to hear from Panthers GM Dave Gettleman, whom he knows from their days with the Giants, but Canty has heard from a few players. OLB Thomas Davis sent Canty a text that read, "It's time for you to come on home." Canty grew up in Charlotte and went on to play his college ball at Virginia. He'd be a great fit in Carolina, as they are super thin on the interior. Canty has visited the Chiefs and Titans since being released by the Giants ten days ago.
