Evans has recently opened negotiations with the Saints to remain with the team moving forward, the New Orleans Times-Picayune reports.
Evans' current contract coupled with the Saints' salary cap situation makes it uncertain whether the Pro-Bowl guard will remain in New Orleans. However, after expectations initially sided with Evans eventually being released by the Saints, it appears he may now be open to restructuring his deal to stay with the team. Coming off wrist surgery following this season, Evans remains a top-tier offensive lineman, making his negotiations with the Saints worthwhile to monitor as the upcoming weeks unfold.

Evans (wrist) had surgery last month on a partially-torn ligament in his wrist, which kept him out of the Pro Bowl. He is expected to be fully recovered in time for offseason workouts and the start of organized team activities in May, reports ESPN.com.
Although he was selected for his sixth consecutive Pro Bowl, Evans had a down year by his lofty standards in 2014, showing more inconsistency than usual as a pass protector. Still, he remains an above-average guard, who continued to stand out many times on film this past year, especially as a run blocker. While he's due $7.5 million in salary and bonuses this year, it's unlikely that he will be going anywhere, even with the Saints' difficult salary-cap situation, as the Saints do not have any alternatives waiting in the wings.

Saints RG Jahri Evans (ankle) is inactive for Week 12 against the Falcons.
Evans apparently got injured in Sunday's win over the 49ers. It's unclear if he's dealing with a high-ankle sprain. Tim Lelito will fill in against Atlanta. Evans has 11 days to get healthy for New Orleans' Week 13 Monday night showdown with the Seahawks.

Wed Jul 31 201309:27Jahri Evans dominating in Saints camp
The Times-Picayune says RG Jahri Evans has been one of the most impressive players in Saints camp.
Evans has been a first-team All-Pro in each of the last four seasons, has never missed a start in his seven-year career and graded out as Pro Football Focus' No. 8 guard last year. He leads a Saints' offensive line that will at least be competent and could be an asset if Charles Brown holds his own at left tackle.

Wed Feb 27 201318:52Saints slash Jahri Evans' base salary
The Saints restructured RG Jahri Evans' contract, slashing his base salary from $7.2 million to "roughly" $3 million.
As is typical, the missing $4.2 million in salary should be turned into a "signing bonus" that pro-rates over the final four years of Evans' deal. It frees up roughly $3 million in 2013 cap space. Evans graded out as a top-ten guard in Pro Football Focus' 2012 ratings.

Tue May 15 201211:00Evans, Vilma to be limited during OTAs
Saints interim coach Joe Vitt expects OG Jahri Evans (knee surgery) and LB Jonathan Vilma (knee) to be limited during OTAs.
Vilma, who is appealing his year-long suspension for his role in the Saints' bounty scandal, is apparently still rehabbing from the knee injury that limited him for most of 2011. Evans had previously insisted his arthroscopic surgery was "minor," and wouldn't hold him out of OTAs. It's unclear if he'll be 100 percent for training camp.

Saints RG Jahri Evans has restructured his contract.
Evans agreed to turn "most" of his 2012 salary into a signing bonus, which will prorate its cap hit over the final five years of his contract. The move clears roughly $2 million in cap space for the Saints, who are "around" $8 million under the projected 2012 cap.

Thu Dec 9 201010:36Evans a penalty machine this season
Saints RG Jahri Evans has been flagged for a league-high eight holding calls this season and his 11 overall penalties are tied for the second most in the NFL.
Evans and the Saints think he's being picked on, as the guard says after reviewing film that he thinks only two of the calls are warranted. Despite all the penalties, Evans has maintained his high level of play, as coach Sean Payton says he has graded consistently high in his weekly assignments.

Wed May 5 201013:54Report: Saints, G Evans do 7-year, $57M deal
ESPN's Adam Schefter reports that the Saints have agreed to terms with RG Jahri Evans on a seven-year, $56.7 million contract.
Averaging $8.1 million annually, the deal makes Evans the richest guard in NFL history. A four-year starter without a single missed game in his career, Evans earned first-team All-Pro honors in 2009. According to Pro Football Focus' metrics, he was the league's best all-around guard and No. 2 run-blocking interior lineman, behind only Jets C Nick Mangold. The new contract puts Evans under control through his age-34 season. Guards have lengthy shelf lives, so it looks to be a good deal for both sides.

The player rep for restricted free agent RG Jahri Evans says he's had "positive" and "meaningful" discussions with the Saints about a long-term extension for his client.
Still unsigned, Evans isn't attending the Saints' voluntary offseason program, although the agent wouldn't rule him out from showing up in the near future. Evans is currently working out and staying in shape in Philadelphia.
