After an outstanding 10-sack season with the Bears in 2014, Young found himself on the roster bubble through most of training camp with the team transitioning to a 3-4 system that made the longtime down lineman an awkward scheme fit at outside linebacker. As a result, Young had seen limited snaps through the Bears' first four games while assuming a backup role, but he gradually seems to be getting a little more comfortable. Although it appears Lamarr Houston and Sam Acho will serve as the primary replacement for the recently-traded Jared Allen, Young will continue to rotate in off the bench in pass-rushing situations.

Young was left inactive in the Bears' Week 3 loss to the Seahawks.

Though he faced the stiff challenge of transitioning from a 4-3 defensive end to a 3-4 outside linebacker while also working his way back from a torn Achilles' tendon, Young managed to earn a roster spot out of training camp. However, he still appears to be a clunky fit in the Bears' scheme, which has been reflected in his low snap counts in Weeks 1 and 2 in addition to the healthy scratch in Week 3. After Jared Allen was dealt to the Panthers on Monday, Young could have an opportunity to draw back into the active ranks for Sunday's game against the Raiders, but he still appears to remain behind Pernell McPhee, Lamarr Houston, and Sam Acho in the pecking order at outside linebacker.

It's quite unusual for a player coming off a double-digit sack season to be at risk of losing his roster spot, but that's precisely the position Young finds himself in after tearing his left Achilles tendon last December and then seeing a new regime take over in the offseason. As a byproduct of returning from a serious injury, Young has been limited to an extent during training camp thus far, and saw only 11 snaps in his preseason debut last week. As a result, Young currently finds himself behind four players at outside linebacker on the Bears' latest depth chart, perhaps pitting him and David Bass in a job battle for the final spot at the position.

Young (Achilles) has been increasing his participation in team drills this week, the Chicago Tribune reports.

Young still isn't cutting at full speed as he works his way back from Achilles surgery last December, but he nonetheless appears to be progressing quicker than anticipated. The Bears' leader with 10 sacks last season, Young is one of several 4-3 defensive ends on the roster who will is transitioning to a 3-4 outside linebacker spot during training camp. If he continues to recover as anticipated before the start of the season, Young is expected to serve in a backup capacity.

Young (Achilles) passed his physical Wednesday and will not land on the PUP list open training camp, the Chicago Tribune reports.

It's somewhat surprising that Young is able to take the field in some capacity eight months removed from tearing his Achilles, but it's a development that is undeniably favorable toward his chances of winning a roster spot. In addition to facing the challenge of returning from a serious injury, Young will have to adapt to a position change, as he'll move from defensive end in former coordinator Mel Tucker's 4-3 setup to a pass-rushing outside linebacker spot in Vic Fangio's 3-4 scheme. Young would normally be on sturdy ground for a roster spot after notching a team-leading 10 sacks last season, but after a complete overhaul of the coaching staff, his camp performance will mean more than his prior accomplishments.

Young (head) remains "week-to-week" due to his recovery from a torn Achilles, the Chicago Sun-Times reports.

Coach John Fox said Wednesday the Young is logging time with the Bears' medical staff during the offseason program. Moreover, the defensive end's rehab remains "on target," though it remains to be seen when Young will be cleared for contact. Consider him questionable for the start of training camp.

Young tore the Achilles tendon in his left foot during Sunday's loss to the Lions, The Chicago Tribune reports.

It was already known that Young won't play in Week 17, and he now faces a challenge to be ready for training camp next season. He impressed in the first season of his three-year-contract, piling up 40 tackles (29 solo), 10 sacks, a forced fumble, two passes defensed and a blocked kick in 15 games. David Bass is the leading candidate to start at left defensive end in Week 17 against the Vikings.

Young sustained the injury in the third quarter of Sunday's game, and with the Bears already eliminated from the playoff race, it will effectively end his season. He'll finish the year with a total of 40 combined tackles and 10 sacks, and leave either David Bass or Cornelius Washington to pick up the reps he leaves behind.

Young recorded four stops -- including a half-sack -- in last Thursday's loss to the Cowboys.

With 8.5 sacks in 13 games, Young is a serious threat to finish as the Bears' lone double-digit sack threat, a development unforeseen after Jared Allen and Lamarr Houston were inked to much more sizable deals last offseason. Still, his production as a pass rusher seems to have tapered off of late, as he's amassed just 1.5 sacks over the last seven games.

Young registered a sack in the Bears' Week 11 win over the Vikings.

Young has assumed a starting role the last two games with Lamarr Houston out for the season with a torn ACL, but since he was already seeing big snap counts off the bench beforehand, he hasn't noticed a huge spike in production. Still, with 34 tackles and eight sacks through 10 games, he's proven to be savvy offseason pickup for the Bears.

Young made three stops in Sunday's 51-23 loss to the Patriots.

Young has gone without a sack in his last two games, after leading the league for the first six weeks with seven quarterback takedowns. He was never expected to maintain that lofty sack rate over the course of an 16-game schedule, but he'll still benefit from playing on an improved defensive line that has been able to generate pass rushing from the interior. In addition, Young could actually see an increase in his snap count in the coming weeks, as the Bears fear that Lamarr Houston could be dealing with a serious knee injury after exiting early in Sunday's game.

Young gathered two sacks and three total tackles in Sunday's win over the Falcons.

The two sacks bring Young's total to seven for the season, good for tops in the NFL. Though Young doesn't have the reputation as one of the league's premier sack artists, he's taken down the quarterback in all but one of his six games on the campaign. He's probably worth owning in just about any IDP league.

Young compiled five tackles and a strip-sack in Sunday's loss to the Panthers.

Young was curiously quiet in last week's loss to the Packers despite receiving an appointment to the starting lineup while Jared Allen (pneumonia) was sidelined, but he turned in another sterling performance coming off the bench in Week 5. The forced fumble was his first of the season, while the sack was his team-leading fifth. Young's immense contributions have helped the Bears cover for the disappointing performance to date of pricey defensive ends Jared Allen and Lamarr Houston, both of whom are still without a sack on the season.

With Jared Allen out with pneumonia Sunday, Young will make his first start of the season against the Packers.

Even in a part-time role this season, Young has been the team's top pass rusher, picking up 12 tackles and four sacks over his first three games. With a heavy load of snaps likely headed his way Sunday, Young may be a sneakily-effective IDP option against a suspect Packers offensive line.

Young amassed four tackles and a sack in Monday's win over the Jets.

Young has managed to post that same stat line in each of his three games, with the exception of his two-sack performance in Week 2. The 12 tackles and four sacks amount to incredible production for a player who isn't even a starter for the Bears, and it's probably time that those in IDP leagues take notice. The Bears' willingness to use Young frequently on passing downs should continue to afford him opportunities to pick up sacks, especially as opposing offensive lines focus most of their attention on double-teaming stalwart Jared Allen on the other side of the field.

Young had two sacks and four total tackles in Sunday's win over the 49ers.

Young feasted on backup tackle Jonathan Martin, using his excellent quickness to win the edge and track down the elusive Colin Kaepernick. With big-money free agent signings Lamarr Houston and Jared Allen mostly quiet through the first two weeks, the under-the-radar addition of Young in the offseason has proven to be a wise one by the Bears. Young has three sacks and eight total tackles despite coming off the bench in both of the team's games.

Young had a productive debut for the Bears in Sunday's loss to the Bills, recording four tackles, including the team's only sack.

Coming off the bench Sunday, Young outshone both of the Bears' more high-profiled offseason defensive end signings, Jared Allen and Lamarr Houston, who combined for two tackles on the afternoon. Given the significant money committed to Allen and Houston, Young is unlikely to displace either as a starter, but he'll still rotate into the game fairly regularly in passing situations.

Young wasn't able to play in Thursday's preseason game against the Jaguars due to a knee bruise, ESPN reports.

Young signed a three-year deal with the Bears during the offseason and is currently one of the main options off the bench at defensive end. Since Thursday's game didn't count for anything, it makes sense that Young and the Bears decided to err on the side of caution.
