Sun Sep 27 201515:13Hughes (wrist) active Sunday against Dolphins
Hughes (wrist) is active Sunday against the Dolphins.
Miami will be without tackle Branden Albert, and with Hughes on the field, the Bills gain an advantage in their quest to dominate the line of scrimmage.
Fri Sep 25 201516:21Hughes probable for Sunday's game against Dolphins
Hughes is probable for Sunday's game against the Dolphins, the Buffalo News reports.
Hughes practiced in a limited fashion all week, but he looks good to go for Sunday's contest. On the heels of back-to-back 10-sack seasons for the Bills, Hughes checks in with seven tackles and one sack through the team's first two game to date.
Thu Sep 24 201511:49Hughes (left wrist) practicing Thursday
Hughes (left wrist) is practicing Thursday, Joe Buscaglia of WKBW reports.
Hughes was limited in Wednesday's work and has a pad taped to his wrist, but it looks like the pass-rushing demon will be mostly fine for Sunday's game in Miami.

The Bills are expected to officially announce the re-signing of Hughes in a Monday morning press conference, Vic Carucci of The Buffalo News reports.
The Bills have plenty of cap room to re-sign Hughes, who's shined since the Bills got the better of a trade with the Colts and seen their defensive end put up 20 sacks over the past two seasons. New coach and defensive guy Rex Ryan has to be quite pleased with a core of Mario Williams, Kyle Williams, Marcell Dareus, and a returning Hughes to work with as part of his front seven.
Tue Jan 20 201519:37Coach Rex Ryan expressed big interest in bringing back Hughes
Coach Rex Ryan expressed a big interest in bringing back Hughes, who's about to become a free agent, BuffaloBills.com reports. Ryan told FOX Sports, "I absolutely envision that. I think Jerry is an outstanding player. The last two years I've been against him and he's tremendous. I hope he's still a Buffalo Bill moving forward. Sometimes things happen where that might not be a possibility, but I believe he's a great player and I hope he's a Buffalo Bill for a long time."
Hughes has implied he won't be giving the Bills a discount, but he's revived his career and then some since being acquired by the team in a steal of a trade with the Colts. Ryan is a defensive guy, so you can bet he likes nothing more than the image of Mario Williams, Kyle Williams, Marcell Dareus, and Jerry Hughes manning his defensive line next season. It's worth noting Ryan runs a different style of defense than the 4-3 style of Jim Schwartz - one the Bills had so much success with in 2014 - but it'd be tough to imagine Hughes not being a key source of sacks should he return to the Bills.

Hughes played just 12 of the Bills' final 36 defensive plays Sunday after taking a 15-yard unsportsmanlike conduct penalty, The Buffalo News reports.
Hughes has had four 15-yard penalties this season - three of them unsportsmanlike flags - and apparently the coaching staff had enough, though Doug Marrone seemed to struggle with an explanation as to why he was surprised Hughes sat so much. (It turns out line coach Pepper Johnson performed the discipline.) We expect Hughes to have a regular play count this week against Aaron Rodgers and the Packers, though IDP owners have to be disappointed with his two-tackle, no-sack performance against Denver.

Through eight games, Hughes has 28 total tackles, 5.5 sacks, and a forced fumble.
People were excited when Hughes resurrected his career in 2013 following a trade from the Colts, but he's got a shot at outproducing that fine season in 2014. With Marcell Dareus, Mario Williams, and Kyle Williams all drawing plenty of attention, Hughes should continue to find himself in many 1-on-1 match-ups. He makes for a decent IDP play the rest of the way.

Hughes saw action on 45 of 62 defensive snaps in Sunday's upset win over the Lions, according to ESPN's Mike Rodak. Hughes had a big game production-wise, with 2.0 sacks, five total tackles, and a forced fumble.
Entering Sunday, Hughes had seen action on just 51 percent of the team's defensive snaps, so Sunday's work certainly gave the coaching staff cause to get him in there a little more. Part of the reason for Sunday's boost was likely due to injuries to Kyle Williams and Nigel Bradham, so if you own Hughes in IDP leagues it's worth paying attention to the health of his teammates. His snap counts have been more inconsistent than last season, when he put up 10.0 sacks and 46 total tackles.

Through three games, Hughes has put up nine total tackles and a sack.
The tackles are a little above last season's pace when Hughes put up 46, but he's getting a little behind the nice sack total he put up last season. With an incredible group of linemen next to him in Mario Williams, Marcell Dareus, and Kyle Williams, we feel pretty good Hughes will see enough 1-on-1 match-ups that soon the QB takedowns will start to accrue. On the season, Hughes is seeing action on 48 percent of the defensive plays, far behind his three aforementioned teammates but within the range of last season's 53 percent. Still, there's a new defensive coordinator this season in Jim Schwartz, so we'll keep an eye on Hughes' playing time.

Sat Jun 21 201410:53Hughes the 'standout player' of Bills' OTAs
DE Jerry Hughes routinely got to the quarterback and was the "standout player" during the Bill's spring practices.
With former Bills DC Mike Pettine in Cleveland, there was some concern Hughes would regress from his breakout 2013 form under new DC Jim Schwartz. Hughes has put those concerns to bed with his stellar practice play. Hughes will not be a full-time player in Schwartz' 4-3, but he remains a double-digit sack threat as a pass-rush specialist.

Fri Jun 6 201414:13Bills to use rotation at right end
The Bills are expected to use a rotation at right defensive end of Jerry Hughes and Manny Lawson.
Mario Williams will be an every-down player at left end. Bills.com's Chris Brown projects Lawson as Buffalo's early-down right end, with superior pass-rusher Hughes replacing him in sub-packages. Hughes should continue to be a threat for 8-11 sacks, but his IDP value would be limited on this usage.

Tue Jun 3 201413:41Report: Hughes 2nd driver in Dareus incident
The Buffalo News reports the Hamburg Town police is investigating Bills DE Jerry Hughes as the second driver in the suspected drag racing crash that involved teammate DT Marcell Dareus last Friday.
Dareus, in his white Jaguar, was allegedly racing Hughes, in his black Camaro, on Friday afternoon when Dareus wrecked his car into a tree. Dareus was arrested on three misdemeanor charges and traffic violations. Coach Doug Marrone said Tuesday that he knew the identity of the other driver, while Hughes refused to "elaborate" on the incident. Hughes has yet to face charges -- ones that are by no means major -- but it's not a good look for a player entering the final year of his deal who's eyeing a contract extension after a breakout 2013 season.

Tue Jul 23 201319:33Jerry Hughes to be Bills starting RE?
The Bills' website mentions April trade acquisition Jerry Hughes as a candidate to start at right defensive end following Mark Anderson's release.
Manny Lawson is also mentioned, although he's more of a strong-side linebacker. The "right end" position in new coordinator Mike Pettine's scheme is actually an end-'backer type role, and will line up opposite LE Mario Williams. The Bills will likely continue to struggle to generate consistent pass rush this year, which will necessitate blitzing. Pettine is a Rex Ryan disciple.

Mon May 20 201310:38Jerry Hughes will get looks in multiple spots
BuffaloBills.com expects Jerry Hughes to get looks as both a strong-side linebacker and rush end.
The Bills are going to use Hughes in multiple spots as they attempt to salvage him from "bust" status. Not in line for a starting job, the majority of Hughes' snaps will likely come as a sub-package rusher.

Mon Apr 29 201313:29Colts trade first-round bust Hughes to Bills
Bills acquired OLB Jerry Hughes from the Colts in exchange for ILB Kelvin Sheppard.
Ex-Colts GM Bill Polian's first-round picks from 2005 through 2010: DB Marlin Jackson, RB Joseph Addai, WR Anthony Gonzalez, RB Donald Brown, and OLB Hughes. Three are out of the league. Only Brown is still on the Colts, and he isn't any good. Hughes, the 31st overall pick in the 2010 draft, has five sacks through 40 NFL games with seven starts. Sheppard was a disappointment in Buffalo, so the teams are simply swapping players they no longer wanted.

Tue Jun 19 201210:50Cutting Jerry Hughes would cost Colts
The Colts would take a bigger cap hit cutting OLB Jerry Hughes than keeping him.
Hughes' base salary is just $635,000, but prorated bonuses would make the cap hit bigger were he to be cut. It means the No. 31 pick of the 2010 draft should get another chance to prove himself even if he doesn't show well in camp. Hughes is making the transition from end to outside linebacker in the Colts' new 3-4 scheme.

Sun Apr 22 201214:39Jerry Hughes working as Mathis' backup
Jerry Hughes is working as Robert Mathis' backup at strong-side linebacker in Colts pre-draft workouts.
Dwight Freeney is the weak-side pass rusher, and Mathis will be rushing off the strong side as Jarret Johnson did under Chuck Pagano in Baltimore. A colossal bust in his first two NFL seasons, there is some feeling that the Colts' new scheme could spark Hughes' career. We have our doubts, but it looks like the new coaching staff isn't ready to give up on Hughes just yet.

Tue Feb 14 201214:16Hughes switching to outside linebacker
Jerry Hughes is expected to shift to outside linebacker in new coach Chuck Pagano's 3-4 scheme.
Hughes was a 3-4 pass-rushing specialist at TCU. The conversion suits his skill-set, though the Indianapolis Star's Mike Chappell "wishes" he was more optimistic about Hughes' chances of turning his career around. The No. 31 pick in the 2010 draft has yet to even make an impact on special teams.
