Fri Aug 9 201313:09Steelers move Marcus Gilbert to RT
The Steelers' switch of Marcus Gilbert from left to right tackle is expected to be permanent.
After two weeks of camp, coaches believe Gilbert is a "much better run blocker" at right tackle than on the blindside, and they're already satisfied with LT Mike Adams' run blocking. The position change hints strongly at Pittsburgh's revised offensive mentality. They want to become a run-centric team, and are confident they have a back capable of being leaned on in rookie Le'Veon Bell.

Gilbert is competing with Mike Adams, but beat writer Ed Bouchette believes Adams' run-blocking prowess makes him a better fit on the right side. "Right now, I feel really confident with what I have to bring on the left side in protecting Ben (Roethlisberger's) blind side,'' Gilbert said. "I know he's highly confident in me, too."

The Steelers are expected to shift Marcus Gilbert to left tackle full time in 2013.
We heard speculation about this last offseason, but it's going to happen in 2013. Mike Adams will play right tackle, with David DeCastro at right guard. Maurkice Pouncey will be the center, and the left guard will be Kelvin Beachum. The Steelers are expected to let free agents Max Starks and Ramon Foster walk. They prefer Adams at right tackle because he's an impact run blocker.

He'll face competition to retain the job in 2013 from Mike Adams, assuming Adams isn't moved to the left side. Gilbert is also cost effective, due only $668,402 in base salary next year.

Coach Mike Tomlin confirmed that 2011 second-rounder Marcus Gilbert will move to left tackle this offseason.
