The 2011 first-rounder is coming off his best season as a pro and is considered a cornerstone of the Steelers' defensive line, agreeing to remain with the team through the 2020 season. Heyward recorded career-highs in sacks (7.5) and tackles for loss (11) in 2014. The Steelers have yet to announce all of the details on Heyward's contract extension, but it is a six-year extension.

Steelers exercised DE Cameron Heyward's fifth-year club option for 2015.
Heyward, the 31st overall pick in 2011, became a full-time starter last season and played on 845 defensive snaps. He's now under team control for a little over $8 million through the next two seasons. Heyward has yet to miss an NFL game and is coming off a 59-tackle, five-sack season as a 13-game starter. He's above average as both a pass rusher and run stopper in Pittsburgh's 3-4.

The Steelers are expected to start DE Cameron Heyward in Week 6 against the Jets.
He'll replace Ziggy Hood in the starting lineup. Heyward had been getting significant snaps as a rotational defensive end, but will now get the majority of playing time going forward. Hood will be limited to sub-packages.

Steelers third-year DE Cameron Heyward shed nearly 20 pounds in the offseason.
Heyward, the No. 31 overall pick in 2011, beefed up to 315 pounds last season, but he's cut back down to his college playing weight of 295. "I'll be able to get off the ball a lot quicker," Heyward said. "It's not like I lost any of my muscle. I definitely kept hitting the weights and just got in better shape." Heyward's impact has been minimal through his first two seasons.

The Pittsburgh Tribune-Review calls Steelers 2011 first-round pick Cameron Heyward's 2013 outlook "a cloud of uncertainty."
The 31st overall pick two years ago, Heyward hasn't so much as earned a Rotoworld blurb since signing his rookie contract in July of 2011. Pro Football Focus did give Heyward solid marks as a run stopper in 2012, but he played under 300 snaps. He won't push Ziggy Hood or Brett Keisel for a starting job.

Son of former Saints and Falcons RB Craig "Ironhead" Heyward, Cameron is a powerful down lineman considered an ideal fit for Pittsburgh's 3-4 scheme. Like 2009 first-rounder Ziggy Hood, he'll be brought along slowly behind Aaron Smith and Brett Keisel.
