Sun Sep 13 201520:54Green failed to catch only target Sunday against Ravens
Green failed to catch his only target Sunday against the Ravens.
Despite being listed as the starting tight end, Green is much more of a blocker than a pass-catcher, and with the offensive line struggling Sunday by allowing four sacks, Green had few opportunities for route running.

Green (hamstring) caught 5-of-5 targets for 48 yards in Friday's preseason opener against the Seahawks.
With Owen Daniels and some other key veterans held out as a precaution, James Casey actually got the start at tight end, though Green also received plenty of snaps with the starting offense. The Broncos are expected to rely on two-tight end formations quite a bit this season, but with three players competing for snaps, none of the bunch is a good bet to see a heavy target workload. Green may have the highest ceiling of the bunch from a real-life perspective, but his prowess as a blocker may serve to limit his receiving contribution.
Thu Jul 30 201518:23Green (hamstring) will be limited at start of training camp
Green (hamstring) will be limited at the start of training camp, Jeff Legwold of ESPN.com reports.
Coach Gary Kubiak told Mike Klis of 9News on Thursday that Green missed much of the offseason program due to a hamstring strain, which explains his imminent availability. With Julius Thomas out of the picture, Green is the primary holdover at tight end but will have to contend with Owen Daniels for snaps. No matter when he achieves full health, Green excels as a blocker, leaving Daniels as the likely candidate to succeed in the fantasy realm.
Tue Mar 10 201515:14Green will re-sign with Broncos
Green will re-sign with the Broncos, ESPN's Jeff Legwold reports.
Julius Thomas is headed to Jacksonville, but Green won't necessarily assume the starting role, as the Broncos are flying Owen Daniels in for a visit, according to the Denver Post. While he's mostly been used as a blocker to this point in his career, Green offers far better athleticism than your average run-blocking specialist. He figures to see more targets in 2015, but the extent of the increase remains highly uncertain.

Green will not return to Sunday's game against the Seahawks after suffering a concussion in the first half, Mike Klis of The Denver Post reports.
Though mostly used as a blocker, Green did catch a pass for 10 yards before being forced out of Sunday's game. He has only been targeted twice this season, and his absence could free up some extra snaps for Jacob Tamme.

Green played 42 snaps on offense as the second tight end Sunday against the Colts, according to ESPN.com, and he caught the only pass thrown his way for an eight-yard gain.
Green is used primarily as a blocker, so despite the decent number of snaps, his fantasy value isn't likely to change much, especially with Julius Thomas' continued ascension up the league's tight-end ranks.
Sun Jan 12 201420:25Virgil Green held to 1 catch for 3 yards
Broncos TE Virgil Green caught one pass for three yards in Sunday's Divisional Round win over the Chargers.
Usually used as an in-line blocker behind Julius Thomas, Green caught a three-yard checkdown from Peyton Manning in the third quarter. Green will continue to focus on blocking when Denver hosts New England for the AFC belt.

Fri Dec 13 201300:48Virgil Green goes untargeted in Broncos loss
Virgil Green wasn't targeted in Denver's Week 15 loss to the Chargers.
As the Denver Post reported pre-game, Green got the "start" in the slot over Jacob Tamme, but it was WR Andre Caldwell who ended up filling in for Wes Welker. Green has just six catches on the season, and will remain well off the fantasy radar for Week 16.

Thu Dec 12 201320:09Report: TE Green getting start over Tamme
The Denver Post reports TE Virgil Green, and not TE Jacob Tamme, will get the start in place of Wes Welker Thursday against the Chargers.
Tamme played over Green in Sunday's win over the Titans, but the Broncos apparently decided to change things up after having four days to decide how they'll make up for the loss of Welker. Beat writer Mike Klis speculates Julius Thomas could man the slot in two-TE sets. Despite the "start," Green is not a recommended Week 15 fantasy play.

Mon Nov 25 201302:49Virgil Green starts, held to one catch
Virgil Green had one catch for three yards in Week 12 against the Patriots.
With Julius Thomas (knee) sidelined, Green started and was used as the primary blocking tight end. He had just two targets and was removed in all passing situations in favor of Jacob Tamme. Even if Thomas doesn't return next week, Green can continue to be ignored in fantasy leagues.

Fri Nov 2 201220:27Virgil Green bypassing Tamme at TE?
Broncos TE Virgil Green played more snaps (34) than Jacob Tamme (25) in Week 8.
The snap breakdown shows that Tamme played primarily on passing downs opposite Joel Dreessen, with Green replacing him on running downs. Green managed to parlay five pass routes into three catches and 44 yards, the latter of which was behind only Demaryius Thomas against the Saints. "(Green has) good speed, good athleticism. He is big and physical," said coach John Fox. "He'll develop and he'll get used to it, a little bit like Ronnie Hillman getting in the flow of things." One of the most physically impressive tight end prospects in the 2011 draft, Green is worthy of a flier in Dynasty leagues. It sounds like Fox expects his role to grow at Tamme's expense.

Mon Oct 29 201200:48Virgil Green catches three passes
Virgil Green made three catches for 44 yards in Denver's Week 8 win over the Saints.
Suspended for the first four weeks of the season, Green entered this evening with zero catches in two games. Although neither Jacob Tamme nor Joel Dreessen has done much with the tight end position in Denver this season and Green boasts an intriguing size/speed combo, it's doubtful he comes into any fantasy value.

Mon Oct 8 201210:52Virgil Green comes off suspension
Broncos TE Virgil Green made his 2012 debut in Week 5.
Green came off suspension and played exclusively on special teams. The 2011 seventh-rounder is way behind Jacob Tamme and Joel Dreessen.

Sun Aug 5 201210:14Virgil Green's suspension not reduced
Broncos TE Virgil Green's suspension for violating the league's PED policy has not been reduced and is still four games.
The Denver Post's Mike Klis erroneously listed Green's suspension as three games on Saturday, but offered a correction in his Sunday column. One game doesn't change Green's situation; he's buried behind Jacob Tamme, Joel Dreessen, and possibly Julius Thomas.

Sat Aug 4 201217:52Virgil Green's suspension reduced
Broncos TE Virgil Green's suspension for violating the league's PED policy has been reduced from four games to three.
The league must have lent some credence to Green's excuse that his positive test was triggered by a prescription ADHD drug. One of the stars of the 2011 Combine, Green is unlikely to make an impact behind veterans Jacob Tamme and Joel Dreessen this season.

Fri Mar 9 201219:03Virgil Green was suspended for ADHD
Broncos TE Virgil Green will not appeal his four-game suspension for violating the league's banned substances policy.
Green was suspended for ADHD. He took it "prior to obtaining an exemption from the league," and says he now has that exemption and is free to take ADHD going forward. "I apologize to my teammates, coaches and fans for my mistake," said Green, "and will make sure to never let anything like this happen again."

Fri Mar 9 201218:10NFL suspended TE Virgil Green
NFL suspended TE Virgil Green four games for violating the league's banned substances policy.
It's believed Green tested positive for a performance enhancer, although that hasn't been confirmed. Teammates WLB D.J. Williams and DT Ryan McBean got longer (six games) bans. Green, a seventh-round pick in the 2011 draft, caught just three passes for 24 yards in 15 games during his rookie season. The athletic Green was expected to have a bigger offensive role in 2012.

Sat Sep 3 201115:11Rookie TE Virgil Green makes final roster
Seventh-round TE Virgil Green has made the Broncos' final roster.
He beat out Dante Rosario and Dan Gronkowski. After turning in one of the most impressive tight end performances in NFL Combine history, Green was billed as an impact receiver with subpar blocking ability. Instead, he's emerged as one of the team's best blocking tight ends while carving out a role on special teams. Fourth-rounder Julius Thomas has shown superior receiving skills.

Wed Jul 27 201120:36Broncos sign seventh-round TE Green
Broncos signed No. 204 overall pick TE Virgil Green to a four-year, $2.16 million contract.
One of the most physically impressive tight ends in the draft, Green was also highly productive at Nevada. He slipped to the seventh round due to a four-year old knee injury. Expected to man the "move" tight end role in Denver, Green will make a more immediate impact than fourth-rounder Julius Thomas.
