Liuget and the Chargers came to terms on a five-year contract extension Tuesday, Adam Caplan of ESPN reports.
With more than $50 million up for grabs through the 2020 season, Liuget has upheld his end of the bargain following his selection in the first round of the 2011 NFL Draft. A handful versus both the run and pass, the 25-year-old defensive end has yet to garner a Pro Bowl berth, despite racking up 149 tackles (112 solo), 17 sacks, three forced fumbles, three fumble recoveries, and one defensive touchdown while starting every game the past three seasons.

Liuget is nearing completion on a long-term contract extension with the Chargers, NFL.com reports.
Liuget registered a career-best 57 tackles (45 solo) and two forced fumbles to go with 4.5 sacks last season, which followed a 2013 campaign that he played with a torn labrum. Overall, the 2011 first-round selection has appeared in 61 of 64 possible games since entering the league, emerging as the Chargers' most utilized defensive lineman along the way.

Liuget (foot) is not listed on the Chargers' injury report in advance of Monday's regular season opener versus the Cardinals.
Liuget suffered a foot injury early in the preseason, but will be good to go for Monday's Week 1 clash with the Cardinals. While the defensive end played all of last season with a torn labrum, he'll look to take advantage of being healthy this time around and improve on his totals of 42 tackles and 5.5 sacks during the 2013 campaign.

Liuget (foot) will not play in Thursday's preseason opener versus the Cowboys, U-T San Diego reports.
Liuget was forced from Tuesday's practice with a foot problem and sat out Wednesday's session as well. The defensive end will continue to rest during the Chargers preseason opener, which should allow Damik Scafe and Sean Lissemore increased reps early on.
Tue Aug 5 201414:46Liuget exited Tuesday's practice early with foot injury
Liuget exited Tuesday's practice early with a foot injury, U-T San Diego reports.
Liuget missed two recent practices due to the same issue, which is apparently lingering with the defensive lineman. After playing all of last season with a torn labrum in his shoulder, Liuget was hoping for a healthy 2014 campaign, but he already has a hurdle to clear on that front. As of now, it's uncertain whether Liuget will be able to feature in the Chargers' preseason opener on Friday.
Mon Jun 23 201414:03Corey Liuget drops to 290 pounds
Chargers RE Corey Liuget plans to play at 290 pounds this season.
He's dropped over ten pounds from last year, when Liuget turned in a disappointing campaign, dipping from 7.0 sacks to 5.5, and nine pass breakups to two. Still only 24 years old, Liuget could have a breakout season if DC John Pagano makes good on his promise to utilize more one-gap concepts in 2014.

Thu Apr 17 201420:38Bolts exercise Liuget's fifth-year option
Chargers exercised RE Corey Liuget's team option for 2015.
The move locks Liuget in for 2015, but is guaranteed for injury only. That means the Bolts could still move on from Liuget prior to the beginning of the 2015 league year, though it's unlikely they will. Under the terms of the CBA, he'll make the average of the third- through 25th-highest paid players at his position during his option year. Liuget appeared to be coming on in 2012, but was a less effective pass rusher and run stopper last season.

Tue Jun 11 201317:38Chargers DE Liuget primed for break-out year?
The San Diego Union-Tribune has identified DE Corey Liuget as a player who has continued to improve, and considers him a breakout candidate.
Liuget was the No. 18 pick in the 2011 draft. He posted 50 tackles, seven sacks, and nine pass deflections in his sophomore season, but insists he's "way more explosive," this year. His growth is attributed to improved footwork and a better diet than in previous seasons. Despite having a weak roster overall, the Chargers will have one of the better defensive end tandems in Liuget and Kendall Reyes.

The Chargers are expected to "unleash" DE Corey Liuget this season.
Liuget was a disappointment as a rookie in 2011, recording just 19 tackles and one sack in 15 games. The Chargers desperately need him to rush the passer out of the weak-side end spot in their 3-4. They managed just 32 sacks last season, tied for 23rd in the league.

Fri Sep 9 201113:00Liuget named starter on right side
Rookie Corey Liuget has been named the Chargers starting right defensive end.
It's been a formality since Liuget stood out immediately at the beginning of training camp. The Bolts' pass rusher is even more intimidating this year than last, with the explosive Liuget supplanting a mediocre Jacques Cesaire.

Chargers signed No. 18 overall pick DE Corey Liuget to a four-year contract.
Liuget comes in to rush the passer out of the right end spot in San Diego's 3-4. Even though Jacques Cesaire was re-signed last week, Liuget will almost certainly start come Week 1. It's a boost for a defense that tied for second in the league with 47 sacks last season.
