Sun Jul 26 201512:47Matthews placed on injured reserve on Sunday
Matthews was placed on injured reserve on Sunday, Ben Goessling of ESPN reports.
Matthews was brought in to compete for the inside linebacker position after a career year, but he'll be done for the season before it even began. He signed just a one-year contract per Goessling, so he'll have to find a new team after an entire year removed from playing.
Tue Mar 24 201518:30Matthews agreed to terms with Vikings on Tuesday
Matthews agreed to terms with the Vikings on Tuesday, Matt Vensel of the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports.
Matthews played 16 total games in each of his first four seasons in the league, and racked up a career-best 53 combined tackles in 2014. He'll compete for a starting gig in an already-formidable group of Minnesota linebackers.
Fri Jun 7 201315:05Casey Matthews working with 3rd-team D
Eagles LB Casey Matthews is working with the third-team defense at OTAs.
Considered a fourth-round reach in the 2011 draft, Matthews was initially projected as a starter. His fall happened quickly, as Matthews was demoted and barely played on defense in 2012. If Matthews secures a 2013 roster spot, it'll be due to special teams value. He recorded 14 special teams tackles last year.

Sun Dec 30 201214:07Casey Matthews exits finale with concussion
Eagles LB Casey Matthews sustained a concussion during Sunday's Week 17 game against the Giants.
Matthews was seeing snaps with the first-team defense thanks to Mychal Kendricks' Week 16 concussion. But in every other game this year, Clay's brother been a mere special teamer en route to 11 tackles and no sacks. Casey will be fighting for a roster spot under a new coaching regime in 2013.

Mon Aug 27 201220:53Eagles LB Matthews has high ankle sprain
Eagles LB Casey Matthews has missed the last two preseason games with a high-ankle sprain.
"I'm almost there, there's just a little stiffness in it, they're just trying to get that out," said Matthews. "I should be ready by Week 1." Lining up behind DeMeco Ryans as the second-team middle linebacker, Matthews was having a strong camp before the injury.

Thu May 17 201213:56Eagles LB Matthews bulks up, now up to 250
Eagles LB Casey Matthews indicated that he now weighs in at 250 pounds, up 18 pounds from last year's listed weight.
Beat writers noted that Matthews looked "huge" at workouts a few weeks ago. The added bulk should help Matthews in the run game, where he was too often washed out as a rookie. As the team's primary nickel backer down the stretch, though, the extra bulk could slow him in coverage. Matthews still projects as a situational player for 2012.

Thu Sep 22 201115:04Eagles' Matthews moves to weak side
Rookie Casey Matthews has been moved from middle linebacker to the weakside.
Matthews was overmatched in the middle, which came as no surprise to anyone who watched the Eagles in preseason action. They are the NFL's 30th-ranked run defense through two weeks. Jamar Chaney and Brian Rolle are expected to continue to hold down nickel-backer duties.

Mon Sep 12 201111:19Matthews plays 55 snaps Sunday
Eagles MLB Casey Matthews played 55 of the Eagles' 66 defensive snaps in Sunday's win over the Rams.
Matthews split time with Brian Rolle in the nickel and finished with four tackles. He continues to struggle to get off blocks and was lucky that Lance Kendricks dropped a couple passes behind him. The Eagles are banking on Matthews improving as his rookie year moves on.

Tue Sep 6 201111:57Eagles not planning on adding a MLB
The Eagles do not plan on adding a veteran middle linebacker this week, sources tell the Philadelphia Inquirer.
Despite inconsistency in the preseason, fourth-round rookie Casey Matthews has won the job. He'll be a two-down middle linebacker and IDP sleeper to start the season. The Rams figure to spread the field and then run the ball right at Matthews in Sunday's opener.

Thu Aug 25 201114:39Report: Eagles 'sniffing around' linebackers
Despite their public stance to the contrary, the Eagles are reportedly "sniffing around other teams" for an alternative to Casey Matthews at middle linebacker.
"Don't be surprised if a move is made in the next few days to bring in someone who can push Matthews for the job," says beat writer Geoff Mosher. If that option fails, the Eagles can move Jamar Chaney back to the middle. Matthews is clearly on the hot seat.

Sat Aug 20 201114:22Reid: Casey Matthews will remain starting MLB
Coach Andy Reid confirmed Saturday that the Eagles will continue to give rookie Casey Matthews all of their first-team snaps at middle linebacker.
Matthews is struggling to shed blocks and still doesn't seem to know the Eagles' system, so he must be an absolute favorite of new defensive coordinator Juan Castillo. We're skeptical as to how long Matthews will keep the job. As long as he does, Matthews will remain one of the top rookie IDP linebackers.

Thu Aug 18 201123:25Casey Matthews exposed in loss to Steelers
Eagles MLB Casey Matthews "looked slow and confused at times, and physically overmatched at others" in Thursday's 24-14 loss to the Steelers, according to ESPN.com's Dan Graziano.
The game was a nightmare for Eagles fans concerned about linebacker and safety. It was obvious to even the casual observer that Matthews and FS Nate Allen -- returning from knee surgery -- were over-matched. Beat writers are already discussing the possibility of moving Jamar Chaney to the middle and inserting Keenan Clayton into the starting lineup. Alternatively, they could kick the tires on Lofa Tatupu.

Sat Aug 6 201101:27Matthews working as every-down linebacker
Rookie Casey Matthews is working in the base, nickel, and dime packages as the Eagles' starting middle linebacker.
We're hesitant to anoint Matthews the starter just yet because his tape wasn't that impressive at Oregon, but first-year defensive coordinator Juan Gastillo seems to love him. In the nickel, it's been Matthews and SLB Jamar Chaney. Matthews is the lone dime linebacker. He's looking like a fantastic IDP sleeper.

Fri Jul 29 201113:24Eagles working Casey Matthews at MLB
The Eagles worked fourth-round rookie Casey Matthews as their starting middle linebacker to open training camp.
New DC Juan Castillo praised Matthews' leadership skills, smarts, and "it" factor. Jamar Chaney has been moved to strong-side linebacker. Castillo might switch it up later if Matthews doesn't pick up the system quickly, but he's got a solid month to learn. Matthews now looks like an ideal rookie target in IDP leagues. Keenan Clayton will presumably start on the weak side.
