Tue Apr 28 201511:19Chris Jones: Signs Extension With Cowboys
Jones has signed a two-year extension with the Cowboys, bringing the total value of his contract to $4.2 million over three years, with $750,000 guaranteed, ESPN's Field Yates reports.
Jones' contract runs through 2017, and the guaranteed money should keep him safe in his role for at least the next two seasons. His punting average of 45.5 yards ranked 18th out of 32 qualified punters in 2014, while his net average of 39.8 yards was good for 14th. He had 21 punts inside the 20-yard line, with only two touchbacks all season.

The Cowboys reportedly believe Chris Jones has a chance to be a "special" punter.
Dallas signed Jones to a three-year deal upon promoting him from the practice squad late in the season. The inference is that free agent Mat McBriar, coming off surgery to remove a cyst in his leg, may have lost his job for good.

Cowboys waived P Chris Jones.
It's a sign that Mat McBriar has recovered enough from nerve damage in his left foot to handle punting chores in Week 11. Jones averaged 43 yards on three punts against the Seahawks two weeks ago.

The Cowboys activated punter Chris Jones from their practice squad on Saturday.
