Sun Feb 17 201312:58Johnson, Irving to compete for Denver MLB job
The Denver Post says the "plan" is for Steven Johnson to compete with Nate Irving for the Broncos' starting middle linebacker job.
Johnson was signed as an undrafted free agent out of Kansas last year, and he was given a $12,000 signing bonus, indicating other teams thought highly of him. Johnson, though, went on to play just six defensive snaps. Both he and Irving were stalwarts on special teams, while Keith Brooking was the starter on defense in the middle. Brooking, 37, isn't expected to be re-signed.

Broncos signed Kansas LB Steven Johnson.
Johnson was given a $12,000 signing bonus, an indication the Broncos faced competition for his services. A former walk-on, Johnson didn't start for Kansas until he was a fifth-year senior, but is a high-motor player with excellent football instincts. He'll look to make the Broncos as a special teamer.
