Mon Oct 12 201502:53Celek got start with Vernon Davis (knee) sidelined Sunday
Celek got the start with Vernon Davis (knee) sidelined Sunday. He made the best of his opportunity, securing three catches for 26 yards and his first touchdown of the season in the loss to the Giants.
Celek has usurped Vance McDonald as Kaepernick's favorite tight end behind Vernon Davis. Despite finding the endzone Sunday, it would be hard to recommend Celek in anything other than the deepest leagues, as he doesn't generate huge yardage gains, and there is a chance Vernon Davis (knee) could return by next week's game against Baltimore.

Vernon Davis (knee) will be inactive for Sunday's tilt against the Giants, which means Celek will get the start in his place.
Celek has led all San Francisco tight ends in targets and receptions over the past two weeks, and figures to do the same Sunday. However, with how poor the 49ers' passing game has been this year, Carrier should not be relied upon outside of the deepest leagues.

Celek led all 49er tight ends with three catches (five targets) for 26 yards in the loss to the Packers.
For the second consecutive week, Celek was the most-targeted tight end for San Francisco. Usual starter Vernon Davis missed the game with a knee injury and his status is unknown for next week's tilt against the Giants. If he were to miss the game, Celek would apparently be the "starter," but he shouldn't be relied upon unless it was an emergency situation.

Celek led all 49ers with three catches for 29 yards in Sunday's blowout loss to the Cardinals.
The fact that Celek's stat line led all 49ers' receivers should tell you all you need to know about this game. It is worth noting that Vernon Davis (knee) left the game with an injury, and his status is still unknown for next week's matchup against the Packers. Even if Davis is unable to suit up, Celek will remain off of fantasy radars until he shows he can put up a big game in San Francisco's run-first offense.

Celek was targeted four times Sunday, finishing with three catches for 40 yards in the win over Minnesota.
While this wasn't a huge fantasy day, the increased usage for Celek was surprising. The 49ers' new offense under Geep Chryst featured many three tight end sets, which could lead to more targets for Celek and his fellow tight ends this season.

Celek caught both of the balls thrown his way Saturday, finishing with 29 yards and the 49ers' only touchdown against the Texans.
The 49ers are currently carrying eight tight ends, so their respective performances during the preseason will determine who they keep on their 53-man roster. Celek took a big step forward with his solid performance in the team's first game.

Celek (ankle) has been placed on IR by the 49ers.
With Celek out for the season, fellow TE Xavier Grimble is a candidate to be promoted from the 49ers' practice squad before Saturday's game against the Chargers.

Celek made a season-high 31-yard catch Sunday against the Seahawks, but then promptly left the game with an ankle injury.
The severity of the injury is unknown, but the fact that Celek didn't return to the game puts his status for next week's matchup against the Chargers in doubt.
Thu Nov 27 201417:21The 49ers have activated Celek (back) from PUP list
The 49ers have activated Celek (back) from the PUP list, the Sacramento Bee reports.
Celek, who earns his keep as a blocking tight end, will bolster the 49ers' depth behind Vernon Davis, with Derek Carrier on IR and Vance McDonald banged up.
Tue Aug 26 201413:25Celek (back) placed on PUP list Monday
Celek (back) was placed on the PUP list Monday, CSN Bay Area reports.
Celek was dealing with a disk issue in his back throughout the preseason, so it is no surprise that he will begin the year on the PUP list. He isn't eligible to join the team until week 7.
Fri Aug 1 201418:19Garrett Celek: (Back) No Timetable For Return
Celek (back) remains on the PUP list with a "disk issue" in his back and does not have a timetable for a return, the San Francisco Chronicle reports.
Celek, who was expected to be the 49ers' third tight end, appears to be in danger on not being ready for the start of the season. Derek Carrier would fill that role if Celek isn't able to go for the start of the season.
Sun Nov 10 201316:33Garrett Celek pulls his hamstring
49ers TE Garrett Celek left Sunday's Week 10 game against the Panthers in the first quarter with a hamstring injury and will not return.
Celek was quickly ruled out for the day, hinting at a serious pull. Brent's brother has one catch for 30 yards on the season.

Thu Jul 18 201315:15Celek, Gray competing for one spot?
CSN Bay Area believes 49ers TEs Garrett Celek and MarQueis Gray are competing for one roster spot.
Celek, the younger brother of Brent, earned a spot last year as an undrafted free agent following a strong training camp. Gray, a college quarterback, receiver, and running back, has the athleticism check mark in his favor, but we'd give the slight edge to Celek since he already knows the ins and outs of the offense.

Sun Dec 30 201209:35Celek to get a look should Davis miss for SF
49ers TE Garrett Celek is expected to get a lot of playing time on Sunday against the Cardinals if Vernon Davis (concussion) does not play.
Celek played 51 percent of the snaps last week in Seattle after Davis was knocked out of the game by Seahawks SS Kam Chancellor. He was targeted three times on Sunday night and caught two passes for 41 yards in the game. Delanie Walker would get the start at tight end, but "they'll probably split a couple of things... it will definitely be a mix and match thing," says OC Greg Roman. Celek is the younger brother of Eagles TE Brent Celek. He made the team as an undrafted free agent out of Michigan State.
